- Santiago is a close friend of director Guillermo del Toro. He appears in most of del Toro's American films in cameo bit parts and is a frequent collaborator on many of del Toro's projects.
- He used to take part in TV shows and contests in order to earn money for making his first short films.
- Well-known for appearing as a guest in almost every successful TV show in Spain to promote his "Torrente" films.
- Has two daughters with María Amaro. The first child, named Calma, was born on February 7, 2008. The second one, named Sirena, was born on December, 2013.
