Image
John Cena, who is well known as Peacemaker in the DC Universe, recently talked about the idea of crossing over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). At Fan Expo Dallas, Cena shared his hopes that superheroes from different franchises could someday come together. He said he would love to see characters like Iron Man and Superman meeting in the same universe.

When asked if he wanted to join the MCU, Cena gave a thoughtful answer. He explained that his dream is for all superheroes to exist in one big world where they can interact. “I would love Iron Man to shake hands with Superman. I would love to see all superheroes across all platforms be involved in a universe,” he said. However, he added that he doesn’t make the decisions about casting, so for now, he isn’t part of the MCU.

Next year, Godzilla will embark upon a tour of destruction across the United States, in a new miniseries from Idw Publishing appropriately entitled Godzilla vs. America. As revealed by the publisher, the midwestern metropolis of Chicago is the first on the King of Monsters' list of stops to make but far from the last.

At this year's New York Comic-Con, Idw announced Godzilla vs. America, starting with Godzilla vs. Chicago. As of now, specifics about the series are scarce, but what fans do know makes this a massively anticipated project for next year.

Godzilla vs. America will be an anthology book, with multiple stories per issue and each issue will be crafted by authors and artists who actually live in the city that Godzilla is ravaging. The creative team for the Chicago issue includes Caroline Cash, Mike Costa, Tim Seely, and more.

DC Comics Announces Batman: Hush 2, Vertigo's Return, Justice League Vs. Godzilla Vs. Kong 2, And More
Image
During this weekend's New York Comic Con, DC President, Publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee shared several exciting updates about DC Comics' future plans during his annual "Jim Lee & Friends" panel.

Joined by writer Jeph Loeb, the artist announced a sequel to their acclaimed Batman: Hush series, to be published within the pages of DC’s ongoing Batman comic book series in 2025. A Hush 2 prelude will also be published in DC's Justice League Unlimited #1 on November 27.

There have already been loose sequels to the story, so we're definitely intrigued to learn what leads to another clash between the Dark Knight and Hush over two decades after the original.

Lee also revealed plans to bring back the DC Vertigo imprint as the home of DC's creator-owned comic books, graphic novels and collected editions.

Lee welcomed writer James Tynion IV to the stage, with a call-out to artist Álvaro Martínez Bueno in the crowd,...

Adaptation of Acclaimed Comic Series Revival Finds Its Main Cast
Image
First released by Image Comics in 2012, the horror series Revival quickly became a hit for creators Tim Seely and Mike Norton, nominated for three Harvey Awards in 2013. While it unfortunately lost out to the juggernaut that was Saga that year, the comics nevertheless became beloved by many who have long been wanting to see a live-action adaptation. Wait no longer, because production on Revival has begun, and its main cast has just been announced.

Per Variety, Revival will star Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp), Romy Weltman (Backstage), David James Elliott (Jag) and Andy McQueen (Outer Banks), all of whom will lead the original series for the SyFy network, which was created by showrunners Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce. Cameras are now rolling in New Brunswick, Canada, with eyeballs firmly fixed on a 2025 release.

Pitched early on by Seely and Norton as "Fargo meets The Walking Dead," Revival focuses on the...

Upcoming Marvel Series Will Revisit Rogue’s Relationship with Magneto
Image
And while the MCU is currently focused on the return of Robert Downey Jr. in the role of Victor Von Doom, one of Marvel’s biggest villains, Marvel’s comics are continuing on their own path as the storylines we love to follow are being continued, and these stories and characters are being evolved further, which is going to be the focus of this report as well.

The story we are going to focus on comes from the upcoming new series focused on one of the most prominent X-Men members – Rogue. Namely, Marvel is starting a new series titled Rogue: Savage Land, which will see the legendary Mutant return to Savage Land.

However, the new series – written by Tim Seeley – will explore another interesting aspect, which is a very controversial one. Namely, the series will reexamine the relationship between Rogue and Magneto, which is one of the most controversial romances...

The First Suicide Squad Roster Was Built To Kill The Justice League Vision (Complete With Its Own Superman)
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Absolute Power: Origins (2024) #2 ahead!

The modern day Suicide Squad is infamous for being Amanda Waller's personal task force of expendables, but that was never the original plan. DC has instead revealed that the original lineup of Task Force X was fully equipped to take on the Justice League - even having their own "Superman" on the roster.

Absolute Power: Origin (2024) #2, by John Ridley, Alitha Martinez, Norm Rapmund, and Andrew Dalhouse, reintroduces readers to the very first version of Task Force X, made up of a motley list of names like Cyclotron, Johnny Sorrow, and Rustam. But there are heavy hitters in the roster, too: Dr. Polaris, the Emerald Empress, and even the Main Man himself, Lobo.

This lineup reinforces the notion that the original Task Force X was never meant to be a "suicide squad" - it was fully equipped to take out the Justice League from the beginning.

Image Announces The Ultimate ‘90s Tribute Comic, Local Man
Image
Comic creators Tim Seeley and Tony Fleecs are teaming up for Image Comics' latest superhero series, Local Man. This won't be a traditional story as Seeley and Fleecs incorporate elements from all across comic books' most controversial period of time: the '90s.

For as long as comic books have been around, few decades are as interesting in the medium's history as the '90s. From gimmicks cover promotions, to the advent of creator-owned industries and rise of newer publishers to the complete crash of the market, the decade is filled with radical changes and peculiar choices. But 30 years on, nostalgia for the '90s has begun to slowly, but surely, make itself known among the fandom and comic creators. Marvel and DC have dipped their toes into cashing in on fans fondly reminiscing the decade with variant and novelty covers. Even Image has brought a few of its gems...

Comic Book Reviews: DC Comics Round Up Week 10/12/2016

A little late this time around, but never forgotten! This week I take a quick look at the developing stories from DC’s Rebirth line up. While not a huge week for story development, we do get to wrap up a few plots and open the doors to a few more!

Action Comics #965

Story: Dan Jurgens Art: Stephen Segovia, Art Thibert, Arif Prianto, Dave Sharpe

Review: So with Superman seemingly unable to prove anything nefarious about this new Clark Kent, it’s up to Lois to try to figure out what’s going on! To do that she pretends to the Lois Lane of New 52 Universe, and as expected things don’t go completely as planned. Jurgens continues to do an excellent job here with how he handles the characters. Everyone feels right, in that their motivations, manner of speech and actions...

I have become a really big fan of the Earth One series DC has created. With the first series of Batman and Superman being successful it was only natural that Wonder Woman would be next. Plus anything written by Grant Morrison is a must to own.

‘Chew/Revival’ is a Great Meeting of Two of Today’s Best Comics
Chew/Revival

Written by John Layman & Tim Seely

Art by Rob Guillory and Mike Norton

Colors by Rob Guillory and Mike Englert

Covers by Rob Guillory and Jenny Frison

Published by Image Comics

Some things just go together well. Peanut butter and chocolate. Fries and ketchup. Salt n Pepa. John Layman’s Chew, the hit comic about an Fda detective with food-related superpowers, and Revival, Tom Seely’s gothic noir comic set in a town where the recently dead “revived”, seems like a great match. Both are about cops working in topsy-turvy worlds, both either flirt with black humor or let black humor take them to the back seat of its Dodge. But tonally, style-wise, the two comics can seem at odds. So how do you do a crossover twixt the two that doesn’t come out like a strange melange of two opposing styles? Well…you cheat. Or at least get creative with it.

Stephen King at an event for Un crime dans la tête (2004)
Comic Review: 'Afterlife With Archie, Chapter 3: Sleepover'
Stephen King at an event for Un crime dans la tête (2004)
We start with sequences of birth: a pregnant Hermione Lodge, the proud Hiram Lodge, promising a new home and a new life in Riverdale. It’s the past, the panels awash in telling sepia. Then, a mystical scene involving the aunts of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch; we haven’t seen them since issue #1, and not only does this bit of continuity lend verisimilitude to the expanded supernatural Archie universe, it also reminds us that we’re looking into the past. Artist Francesco Francavilla cleverly shades these panels in half-dark, half-light tones, keeping readers off-kilter. Suddenly, jarringly, we’re back in the present, and it’s death again. So much death. This is “Sleepover.”

We’re three issues into Afterlife with Archie, and the tone has entrenched itself. It’s grim, but not unrelentingly so: these characters were created as light comic archetypes, and it’s not hard for writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa...

Stephen King at an event for Un crime dans la tête (2004)
Comic Review: 'Afterlife With Archie: Escape From Riverdale Chapter 2: Dance of the Dead'
Stephen King at an event for Un crime dans la tête (2004)
Cheryl Blossom is having a bad year. Over in the Betty & Veronica fairytale storyline, she’s been turned into the evil sea witch octopus from The Little Mermaid. In Life with Archie, the alternate-universe continuity that presents the Riverdale folk as young adults, Cheryl is struggling with breast cancer and the implications of ongoing healthcare. And now … well now, her quasi-incestuous schemes with her brother are about to be torn asunder by a bunch of townie zombies.

There’s a lot going on in Afterlife with Archie #2, with writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa working to not only forward the story, but also to deepen the world of this version of Riverdale. As in Life With Archie (in which the subtext beneath the squeaky-clean “Earth One” Archie universe surfaces to create real pathos and tension), here the subtext is used to shade the town’s hidden passions and terrors. Even before the bodies mount,...

Comic Book Review: 'Afterlife With Archie' #1
Stephen King at an event for Un crime dans la tête (2004)
"This is how the end of the world begins…"

If readers needed any indication that Afterlife with Archie was going to be a different sort of Archie experience, that warning on page one – in horror movie font, dripping bloodily across a black void – is promise enough. From there, writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (2013’s Carrie) and artist Francesco Francavilla (The Black Beetle, and an incalculable number of pulp-style comic-book covers) waste no time getting into the story. A few trope-heavy establishment shots – a creepy old house, an owl with glowing red eyes, feet pounding the ground, panels awash in lurid red – set the scene for the devastating splash page: Jughead, clutching his bloody, dying dog, at Sabrina Spellman’s door, begging her to save his life.

From there, things go to hell, and quickly. Sabrina can’t save Hot Dog’s life … but she can try to bring him back to life.

Fox and Boom! Team up for Jennifer's Body and more...
When we last mentioned Boom! Studios' comic book partnership with 20th Century Fox, it was the announcement that Boom! and Fox Atomic would be bringing a new series of 28 Weeks Later books into the print realm. Boom Goes Jennifer's Body
Fox Atomic and Boom! Studios are it again working on a comic version of yet another soon-to-be-hot property, the Megan Fox vehicle Jennifer's Body! Ah, yes! Fox all bloodied up in comic book form! Something tells me the old geek spank bank is about to be filled to capacity!

Juno's award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody brings you Jennifer's Body starring Megan Fox as a demonically-possessed cheerleader with a taste for killing teenage boys! In this original graphic novel that ties into the movie and expands on its universe, Black Metal’s Rick Spears brings you even more hellish Jennifer stories with art by Hack/Slash's Tim Seely, Kick Drum Comix's Jim Mahfood, Dmz's Nikki Cook, and Popgun's Ming Doyle"

Ok. Count us in! Look for Jennifer's Body in theatres on September 18th and...
