Ernest Saves Christmas Is an Unlikely Holiday Classic
Image
This article contains Ernest Saves Christmas spoilers

After hurrying his grandkids off to bed, an elderly man puts the finishing touches on his Christmas Eve presentation. He bounces around the tree, bubbling over with the Christmas spirit until a rustling outside his door causes him to pause. Could that noise be Santa Claus himself? Just as the grandfather allows himself to believe the impossible, a grotesque creature bursts through the door, leading with his extended claws. The grandfather wastes no time, training a pistol on the invader and sneering, “Die, you son of a…”

Unable to say the curse word, the actor playing the grandfather calls cut and the actors reset. It turns out, we’re not watching a horror movie at all, but Ernest Saves Christmas, a Christmas movie with its own set of oddities. The 1988 film stars milk pitchman turned unlikely children’s movie star Ernest P. Worrell,...

10 Great Movie Santas, From Edmund Gwenn to Kurt Russell (Photos)
Santa Claus in An Elf's Story: The Elf on the Shelf (2010)
As the embodiment of kindness, generosity, and Yuletide beneficence, Santa Claus presents some mighty big black boots, much less a red suit, for any actor to fill. But jolly old Saint Nicholas has appeared in the movies for as long as the movies have existed, and here are some of our favorite actors who’ve steered the sleigh (not counting Billy Bob Thornton and anyone else who has played a guy who is pretending to be Santa):

Kurt Russell in “The Christmas Chronicles” (2018) and “The Christmas Chronicles 2” (2020): There’s more than a little bit of Russell’s trucker character from “Big Trouble in Little China” in his take on Father Christmas, but that blue-collar bravado and dad-bod energy make this character, in the words of critic Nathan Rabin, “a Santa who f–ks.”

Jim Broadbent, “Arthur Christmas” (2011): In this delightful animated adventure from Aardman, Broadbent plays...

Aladdin Sequel in Development
Tony Sokol Feb 13, 2020

Last summer's Aladdin made Disney rich enough to impress a princess. Studio stands by its oath loyalty to a sequel or three.

There's still a lot of gray area, but after the billion-dollar success of last summer’s reboot, Disney is developing a sequel to Aladdin, according to Variety. Director Guy Ritchie is scheduled to return to the helm. Aladdin starred Will Smith as Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Jasmine, who are expected to take another ride on the carpet.

Aladdin 2 will be an original story and not follow the sequels to 1992's Aladdin, 1994's The Return of Jafar or Aladdin and the King of Thieves (1996), which went straight-to-dvd. The Aladdin 2 screenplay will be written by John Gatins, who was nominated for an Academy Award for writing the Denzel Washington film Flight, and Andrea Berloff, who was nominated for an Oscar...

This Never-Before-Seen Clip of Robin Williams and the Aladdin Cast Will Make You Emotional
Aladdin is the gift that keeps on giving. Following the Summer debut of the live-action film, Disney has released a new behind-the-scenes look of the 1992 cast in the recording booth. The clip - which is part of the movie's forthcoming Signature Collection home release - shows the late Robin Williams bringing Genie to life as he recites his lines in the booth. It also includes Jonathan Freeman as Jafar, Linda Larkin as Jasmine, Douglas Seale as Sultan, and Brad Kane doing Aladdin's singing voice.

There's no denying that Aladdin wouldn't have been the same without Williams as Genie. The larger-than-life character granted wishes, cracked jokes, and gave us the song "Friend Like Me," which is one of the best Disney songs of all time. Watch the nostalgic video ahead of the Aug. 27 Signature Collection release of Aladdin.

From Tim Allen to Tom Hanks: The 15 Most Memorable Cinematic Santas
Who rocks the best bowl-full-of-jelly belly in movie history? Father Christmas has shown up in enough movies that he has his own subgenre: the Santa Claus movie, a whole category of family friendly fantasy films dedicated to exploring the magic of St. Nick.

Here are some of the most memorable movie portrayals of Santa Claus.

1. Edmund Gwenn in Miracle on 34th Street (1947)

The gold standard for cinematic Santa Clauses, Gwenn plays Kris Kringle, a department store Santa who insists he’s the real thing. Gwenn’s performance as Kringle was so convincing that he won the Oscar for Best Supporting...

Best Santa Claus Movies of All Time
Who doesn't love Santa Claus? This jolly, rotund individual with the big white beard is loved and revered by all. In fact, he is the ultimate uniter. I defy you to tell me any religion that doesn't at least smile somewhat (regardless of how they feel about Christmas) when they see this iconic being. Santa Claus has been portrayed by people of all walks of life. Some looking like the Jolly Ole Saint Nick we see in Norman Rockwell paintings, and other's looking like Don Knotts. Santa is a symbol and that symbol has found no better home (no pun intended) than on the silver screen.

For years this character has been portrayed in movies. He has appeared in cameos and starring roles. In fact, it seems that just adding Santa Claus (and the holiday season) to a film can make it have a longer life. People love nostalgia. They...

Disney's Aladdin Remake Gets Into the Woods Star Billy Magnussen
Robin Williams, Jonathan Freeman, Gilbert Gottfried, Linda Larkin, Douglas Seale, Scott Weinger, and Frank Welker in Aladdin (1992)
The cast of Disney's Aladdin remake keeps getting bigger and bigger, with today bringing news that another actor has signed on to play a brand new character that didn't originate in the 1992 animated classic. Billy Magnussen has come aboard to play a character named Prince Anders, although no other details have been given at this time. He will become the second cast member who is playing a character created specifically for this musical, with Nasim Pedrad playing another character named Mara, a handmaiden and friend of Jasmine who wasn't in the original animated classic.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the casting news today, with the report adding that this is not the first time Billy Magnussen has portrayed a Disney prince. The actor portrayed the prince vying for the attention of Rapunzel in the 2014 live-action musical adaptation of Into the Woods. He joins a growing cast that includes Will Smith as the iconic Genie,...

Aladdin Gets Homeland Star as Jafar's Henchman Hakim
Robin Williams, Jonathan Freeman, Gilbert Gottfried, Linda Larkin, Douglas Seale, Scott Weinger, and Frank Welker in Aladdin (1992)
Just a few weeks after we reported that The Mummy remake star Marwan Kenzari is in talks to play the villainous Jafar in Disney's Aladdin reboot, it seems the studio has also found the villain's right-hand man. Turkish actor Numan Acar is in talks to portray Hakim, who serves as the "head of the guards" for Jafar in this live-action remake. There was a guard character named Hakim, voiced by Frank Welker, in the original Aladdin movie, but it seems he will be a much more substantial character in this live-action movie.

Deadline broke the news of this casting, but their report did not include Marwan Kenzari as part of the cast, so perhaps his deal has not been finalized at this time. Numan Acar will be joined by Will Smith, who voices The Genie, Mena Massoud as the title character Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine and Nasim Pedrad as Mara,...
