‘The Continental’ Finale Recap & Ending Explained: Why Did Winston Shoot The Adjudicator?
Image
As the first season of Peacock’s John Wick universe spin-off series The Continental comes to an end with the third and final episode Theatre of Pain, viewers can’t help but feel discontent as to how hastily the finale wrapped up the narrative. Previously, viewers learned how Winston’s elder brother, the ‘Nam war vet Frankie Scott, undertook the dangerous mission of stealing the High Table coin press from New York Continental in order to earn a life of freedom with his wife, Yen, inciting the ire of his mob boss and Continental manager Cormac O’Conner in the process. Winston got tangled up in that mess as well, and he had to witness his brother sacrifice his life to save him and Yen. A vengeful Winston decided to take revenge and put an end to the sordid history the Scott brothers shared with Cormac, and in order to do so,...

Image
This article contains spoilers for The Continental: From The World Of John Wick.

Fresh off this year’s John Wick: Chapter 4 comes the spinoff prequel television series The Continental: From the World of John Wick, developed for television by Greg Coolidge, Kirk Ward, and Shawn Simmons. Running for three feature-length episodes on Peacock, the series follows the adventures of Winston Scott (Colin Woodell), the future head of the eponymous New York hotel that serves as a safe haven to a shadowy order of global assassins. Set decades before the John Wick films, Winston finds himself on his vendetta as he is drawn deeper into the lethal world of assassins, taking on the Continental’s ‘70s proprietor Cormac O’Connor (Mel Gibson).

Filled with explosive gunfights and a quiet expansion of the John Wick shared cinematic universe, The Continental depicts a rise to power for Winston while proving him every inch as deadly as John Wick himself.

The Continental: How Dune 2 Affected the Production of the John Wick Spinoff
Image
The Continental director Albert Hughes shared the reason why he felt pressured by Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two while filming Lionsgate’s John Wick spinoff series.

Before making its series debut last Sept. 22, Lionsgate Television unveiled the opening action sequence from the first episode, which introduced fans to Winston’s older brother Frankie Scott, portrayed by Ben Robson. Speaking with EW, Hughes revealed behind-the-scenes details regarding the production of the spinoff’s elaborate opening heist sequence, which took stunt coordinator Larnell Stovall 10 hours to film. Afterward, Stovall returned the directing hat to Hughes, who was the one that oversaw the filming of Frankie’s daring escape from The Continental hotel.

The Continental: From the World of John Wick Review: An Off-the-Rack Spin-Off
Keanu Reeves
The first entry in the John Wick extended universe begins with a long-haired man in a black suit blasting his way through the hallways of a New York City hotel. At first, it’s comforting to return to such familiar territory, but it soon becomes clear that while the name above the door might still say “The Continental,” this isn’t the luxuriously styled, endlessly idiosyncratic world we’ve come to know from the four John Wick films. Rather, The Continental is the equivalent of a budget hotel: cheap, charmless, and generic.

In the Peacock series, the man in the suit isn’t Keanu Reeves’s John Wick, but a new character named Frankie Scott (Ben Robson). He concludes his one-man assault on the Continental by disappearing into the night with an invaluable piece of hotel property, much to the chagrin of manager Cormac (Mel Gibson), a keyed-up psychopath with...

John Wick's The Continental: Plot, Cast, Release Date, and Everything Else We Know
Image
The Continental is set to spin off the John Wick franchise in big ways. The franchise has come a long way since it debuted in 2014. John Wick reinvigorated the career of star Keanu Reeves. The film's plot involved Reeves’ hit man, the titular John Wick, being unceremoniously forced out of retirement by the reckless act of a gangster’s son. The film was a modest hit financially, grossing $43 million at the domestic box office, along with another 43 million dollars worldwide. A return to the basic plot conventions of a lean and mean revenge thriller combined with excellent camera work and stunt coordination struck a nerve with audiences. Word of mouth propelled John Wick to many must-see lists in 2014.

The rest is history as the action film has spawned three sequels, the most recent of which was John Wick: Chapter 4, which came out on March 24, 2023, and is one of the biggest movies of the year,...

The Continental: Colin Woodell teases his different version of Winston
Image
We’ll be returning to the world of John Wick next month, but it won’t be quite the same as we remember. The Continental: From the World of John Wick takes us to ’70s New York and stars Colin Woodell as a young Winston Scott, the character played by Ian McShane in the movies.

While speaking with Empire (prior to the SAG strike), Colin Woodell teases just how different his version of Winston Scott is in The Continental. “It’s a story of revenge and making amends for what I think is taken from [my character], and that’s my love and my family,” Woodell said. “I love Ian’s embellishment [of the character], and how delicious everything is. To some degree we begin to get there at the end [of The Continental] and you understand what motivates him, but I didn’t get to really participate in that deliciousness.“

Image
Academy Award winner and controversial Hollywood superstar Mel Gibson will soon the world of John Wick in the upcoming prequel series, The Continental: From the World of John Wick. Now, Gibson has discussed joining the project and revealed several details regarding his character, the ruthless criminal kingpin, Cormac in an interview done ahead of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

“He's kind of like [Winston and Charon’s] mentor, or actually, mentor or tormentor, I'm not sure which. But he's rather a nefarious character who's like a father figure to them, and they perceive him that way when they're young, but as they grow and begin to analyse who he really is, they realise he's probably not the father figure he pretends to be. He's pretty selfish in his own motives, and has used them in an ill way, and I think they're burned by that and they want to get even. Rightly so.”
