The Conjuring film franchise is set to come to an end with the fourth installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, which Warner Bros. has scheduled for a theatrical release on September 5th in North America (September 3rd internationally) – and with those dates now just slightly over a month away, a full trailer for the film has dropped online. You can check it out in the embed above.
Coming our way from New Line Cinema, The Safran Company, and Atomic Monster, this is the ninth entry in the overall Conjuring Universe. Entertainment Weekly recently shared that the film is set in 1986, five years after the events of The Devil Made Me Do It. The Warrens have retired from the exorcist business, largely due to Ed’s heart attack, the one sustained during the demonic happenings of the third film. They still hit the university circuit, presenting talks at various schools, but even those opportunities are drying up.

2025 marks the 45th anniversary of the release of one of the most popular horror movies ever made, Friday the 13th, the movie that launched my favorite franchise, and one that I feel is underrated, as it’s a great film that often gets overshadowed by its sequels. Last year, the Friday the 13th franchise rights holders at Horror Inc. announced that they were launching the Jason Universe, which would encompass “new Friday the 13th activations that will span a wide range of platforms from entertainment, games, immersive experiences, merchandise and more to be announced @JasonUniverse13 on social media or by visiting the official Jason Universe website.” Now, they’ve shared some information on what’s ahead for the franchise at a San Diego Comic-Con panel, unveiling a teaser trailer for the vignette Sweet Revenge from writer/director Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn) and a panel-exclusive message from the set of Crystal Lake,...

The new red band trailer for Mortal Kombat II has smashed records, racking up an incredible 106.8 million views worldwide in just its first 24 hours.
According to WaveMetrix data, the trailer dropped on Thursday, July 17 at 9 Am Pst and quickly became the most-watched red-band trailer ever. It launched in 68 countries and was available in 47 different languages. Fans are eagerly waiting for the movie’s release on October 24.
The original Mortal Kombat movie from 2021, also directed by Simon McQuoid, set a high bar by breaking records for red-band trailers with 116 million views in its first week. It even outperformed trailers for popular movies like Logan and Deadpool 2 in early viewership. That movie did well at the box office, too, earning $23.3 million in its opening weekend, despite being released simultaneously on HBO Max.
The new sequel won’t have the same streaming release, so fans will see how it performs with a pure theatrical launch.

Exclusive: It was clear back in the mid-1990s when New Line made the first adaptation of the Midway videogame, and it’s still evident today: There’s a massive appetite for Mortal Kombat. WaveMetrix data reports that the latest trailer for the Simon McQuoid sequel has notched 106.8M worldwide views in its first 24 hours after being dropped on Thursday, July 17 at 9Am Pst — the best ever for a red-band trailer. The trailer launched in 68 countries and 47 languages. Mortal Kombat II opens on Oct. 24.
The previous McQuoid movie back in 2021 was also a red trailer record-breaker, clearing 116M views in its first week and besting the 4-day traffic of Logan and Deadpool 2.
Great views yield excellent box office. Despite a theatrical day and date release on HBO Max, Mortal Kombat opened to a robust $23.3M over April 23-25, 2021; that was about on par to the unadjusted 1995 opening of the first movie which did $23.2M.

Big screen movie sequel Mortal Kombat II is headed our way this Halloween season, and Warner Bros. has unleashed the official trailer this afternoon. Give it a watch below!
Mortal Kombat II marks the arrival of Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage into the rebooted movie franchise, and the character takes center stage in this first official trailer. The new trailer also makes it clear that the sequel will actually depict the titular tournament this time around, and it looks much more like a video game come to life than the first movie did back in 2021.
That being said, I’m still not entirely sold on the approach of this particular big screen universe. A lot of what’s on display here looks much the same as the aforementioned 2021 movie, but Urban’s presence should help elevate the material and at least give us a character worth rooting for. Two years ago, it was announced that some of today’s biggest genre companies – A24, James Wan‘s Atomic Monster, the Stranger Things makers at 21 Laps, and Planet of the Apes producers Chernin Entertainment – are joining forces on a new project called The Backrooms, which will mark the feature directorial debut of director and VFX artist Kane Parsons, who is only 19 years old. A few weeks ago, we learned that Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) and Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World) are set to star in the film. Now, Variety reports that Mark Duplass (Creep), Finn Bennett (True Detective), Lukita Maxwell (Shrinking), and Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) have also joined the cast of the film, which is scheduled to go into production this week in Canada. Of course, details on their characters have not been revealed.

Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell and Avan Jogia have joined the cast of “The Backrooms,” the upcoming sci-fi horror film from A24, Atomic Monster, The North Road Company’s Chernin Entertainment and 21 Laps Entertainment.
The film also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve with a screenplay written by Will Soodik.
Production begins this week in Canada, with Chernin Entertainment co-financing alongside A24. Both serve as co-studios on the film.
The science-fiction horror film is based on 20-year-old Parsons’ own YouTube series of the same name, which he created and directed as a found-footage horror project. The movie adaptation’s plot is being kept under wraps, but Parsons marks the youngest director in A24 history.

Seven years ago, it was announced that James Wan would be producing a remake of the South Korean zombie film Train to Busan (watch it Here) called The Last Train to New York. At one point, Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes for Us) was on board to direct, with Warner Bros. planning to give the film a theatrical release on April 21, 2023. Obviously, that didn’t happen. The film never went into production. But all this time later, Wan still considers The Last Train to New York to be a passion project… and he doesn’t think it should be called a remake. Rather, it’s a spin-off that’s set in the same world as the original film.

M3GAN grossed over $180 million on a $12 million budget in 2022, making a sequel inevitable. Blumhouse has a new killer doll that's a major box office draw, and she returns this weekend in M3GAN 2.0.
The movie dials back the horror elements seen in that first instalment, becoming more of an action-adventure as M3GAN is pitted against fellow AI, Amelia. In this article, we're taking a deep dive into the movie's ending and the events leading up to an explosive finale.
We also talk about possible post-credits scenes and how this movie sets the stage for M3GAN 3.0, so be warned that spoilers follow from this point on.
Following the events of M3GAN, Gemma now fights for AI to be used responsibly. She eventually meets someone with a similar outlook, Christian, but finds herself targeted by the FBI when Amelia (a M3GAN-inspired super soldier) goes rogue.

Back in April, Blumhouse Productions spent some time in the spotlight during the Universal panel at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray was there to witness an early preview of SOULM8TE, which is “a new movie in the M3GAN universe” that is set to reach theatres on January 2, 2026. Bumbray reported, “Seems similar to Companion. Centers on a sexbot that becomes so obsessed with her “owner” that she kills anyone close to him and goes on a murder spree. Looks more violent (and kinkier) than M3GAN but has the same humor. When a woman she’s about to kill says ‘Women aren’t supposed to be pitted against each other,’ she answers, ‘Don’t start that girl power shit with me.’” Now that M3GAN 2.0 is about to make its way out into the world, Entertainment Weekly was able to dig up some more information on SOULM8TE,...

‘M3GAN 2.0’ Team on Delivering a “Bigger, Stronger, Faster” Version of Their Killer Dancing AI Robot
At the premiere of his new film M3GAN 2.0, there’s a brief moment when it’s difficult to tell if director Gerard Johnstone is referring to human adolescents or literal monsters when he explains what scares him the most about raising kids. “It’s like this creature that just keeps mutating and evolving, and once you think you’ve mastered how to deal with it, it just changes into something else,” he told The Hollywood Reporter Tuesday night on the movie’s black and pink carpet in New York.
The similarities between the terrors of real-life teen-rearing and trying to control a sentient killer AI robot — “on steroids,” no less, said executive producer Jason Blum — is at the heart of the sequel to the 2023 horror hit M3GAN. “She’s completely unpredictable,” said EP Adam Hendricks about what fans can expect out of a 2.0 version of M3GAN. “M3GAN, for better or worse,...

Last June, it was announced that Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin had signed on to write and direct a new genre project for Atomic Monster, Blumhouse Productions, and New Line Cinema… and in December, we found out what that mysterious project is, as it was revealed that Cronin has come up with a new take on the concept of The Mummy! Cronin confirmed, “This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.” The film is set to reach theatres on April 17, 2026, and while producer Jason Blum confirmed on social media that production had started back on March 24th, Cronin has now taken to his own social media account to announce that production has wrapped!

Renate Reinsve is set to join Chiwetel Ejiofor in The Backrooms, A24’s upcoming sci-fi horror based on the viral found-footage phenomenon that transformed an anonymous internet post into one of the most recognisable creepypasta legends of the digital age. The Norwegian actor, widely acclaimed for her breakout performance in Joachim Trier’s The Worst Person in the World, has signed on to star in the film, Deadline has confirmed.
Plot specifics remain closely guarded, but the film draws its inspiration from The Backrooms (Found Footage), a YouTube series created by filmmaker Kane Parsons. The series, which began in 2019 when Parsons was just sixteen, imagines a surreal, seemingly infinite maze of yellowed office space, flickering fluorescent lights and disconcerting ambient hums. The space is said to exist in a dimension adjacent to our own and is populated by vague, often unseen threats. Since its release, the concept has amassed more...

A few weeks ago, we heard (via Jeff Sneider of The InSneider) that Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) in final negotiations to star while Cristin Milioti (The Penguin) is in early talks to join him. Sneider’s source told him that Ejiofor’s deal is all but closed, but Milioti’s involvement is 50-50 at this point. Now, Variety reports that A24 has officially given a greenlight to the project, which has Ejiofor attached to star, with Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World) joining him in the cast.
