EA’s legendary sci-fi survival horror franchise Dead Space has seemingly taken a backseat after the release of Dead Space (2023) and it’s confusing considering how well received and critically acclaimed the remake was, with some players even calling it the best remake of all time.
Plus, it has such a strong legacy franchise that you’d think that EA would easily pump out another remake, let alone another new game. But if you’re hoping for them to do something with the universally loved franchise, then we’ve got some terrible news for you, unfortunately.
Dead Space 4 was actually pitched, but talks fell through
Last year, Dan Allen Gaming interviewed veterans of the now-shut-down EA Redwood Shores/Visceral Games’ Glen Schofield, Christopher Stone, and Bret Robbins, and they revealed that a Dead Space 4 was pitched, but talks ultimately fell through.
We tried actually, the three of us. Dead Space 4. We’re talking this year.

It’s hard to believe, but it has been over 12 years since the release of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Upon its release, it completely shook up the RPG genre and presented players with a gameplay that still holds up in today’s day and age.

Skyrim is truly Bethesda and Todd Howard’s magnum opus. However, the game would’ve never been able to achieve the heights it did if EA hadn’t canceled an open-world Lord of the Rings game that had all the potential to lead the RPG genre and obliterate its competitors.

The horror game genre was once shaken by the inclusion of Dead Space. The first installment of this frightening series was launched in 2008. After getting huge recognition, Electronic Arts went on to release two mainline entries along with a remake of the first game in 2023.

Dead Space 3 was a huge hit, but there hasn’t been any new mainline entry in the series after more than a decade. There was always anticipation regarding the sequel of the 2013 game. That anticipation was later further fueled by the remake title last year. However, all these anticipations are going to the grave after the utterly disappointing reveal by the director of the franchise.

In 2013, John Carpenter shared his interest in turning the popular game Dead Space into a movie. EA, the game’s publisher, also mentioned plans to create a film series based on the franchise. For nearly 10 years, there was no news, until Carpenter revealed that the movie was in development—but with a different director.
That director was rumored to be James Wan, known for Aquaman and his work on the game’s trailer in 2008. Recent rumors now suggest that the planned live-action movie has been reworked into an animated film instead.
The rumors come from Daniel Richtman via his paid newsletter, but no official sources have confirmed them yet.
Dead Space is a sci-fi horror series created by Glen Schofield, developed by Visceral Games, and published by EA. The story unfolds across games, movies, comics, and novels, following engineer Isaac Clarke in the 26th century as he fights undead monsters created by the alien Marker.

Back in in 2013, John Carpenter stated that he was interested in adapting the enormously popular game ‘Dead Space’ for the big screens. EA, the game’s publisher has expressed plans to potentially develop a film series based on the franchise. The announcement hung in the void for almost 10 years when Carpenter stated that the movie is in fact in development but under a new director.
That director was heavily rumored to be James Wan, who was at the time high on the ‘Aquaman’ fame. After all the director already had experience with the game as he directed the trailer for the game back in 2008.
Now the latest rumors regarding the potential adaptation claim that what was originally planned to be a live-action movie has instead turned into an animated movie.

The developers of the original Dead Space went through a lot of pain while researching what would make the game appear more scary and authentic to the audience.

The developers had to study actual car crash corpses and war victims to bring a realistic feel to the game. The developers did not want the gore in the game to look cheap and unrealistic, which is why they went to great lengths to avoid that.

Starfield was Bethesda’s first new IP in decades. The expectations placed on the game were quite high since its initial reveal, as it was Todd Howard’s magnum opus. The game was supposed to redefine the RPG genre and space exploration in games altogether.
Starfield was an absolute disaster right from its release. (Image via Bethesda Game Studios)
However, upon its release, the game proved to be an absolute bust. Even though Bethesda tried making amends with this year’s Shattered Space Dlc, its plans didn’t work out, as the game has unfortunately made it to the “biggest regret” purchases of the year for millions of gamers around the globe.

As the original Alien: Isolation celebrates its 10th anniversary, the survival horror videogame’s developer, Creative Assembly, has unexpectedly announced that it’s working on a sequel.

What happened to Striking Distance Studios’ The Callisto Protocol? The spiritual successor to Dead Space launched in an apparent unpolished state, with performance issues on PC and poor execution in several gameplay areas. The result had the game scoring mixed reviews, publisher Krafton immensely scaling back sales projections, and eventually had Striking Distance Studios CEO Glen Schofield leaving the developer. And in a recent interview with PCGamesN, Schofield confirmed those suspicions regarding the release of The Callisto Protocol in a bit of a post mortem, stating that Krafton had pushed the game out too soon.
In the interview, Schofield claimed that initially, Striking Distance was given a lot of leeway when it came to developing The Callisto Protocol. However, Krafton later insisted on a December 2022 release.
“I wanted about three and a half more months [of development time],” said Schofield, who says that he was led to believe that Krafton agreed to the request.

When The Callisto Protocol was finally released back in December 2022, it was met with a mixed reception. While the game had amazing graphics, animations, and overall fidelity that was represented thanks to its budget, it was quite lacking in gameplay and narrative, on top of plenty of bugs and glitches.
This survival horror title from Striking Distance Studios had high expectations leading up to its release. However, the final product fell short of its potential, and new revelations suggest that the challenges faced were not solely the responsibility of the game director, Glen Schofield.

Shortly after its release, The Callisto Protocol is taking part in a surprising collaboration with the release of a craft beer. The Callisto Protocol, developed by Striking Distance Studios, serves as something of a successor to the Dead Space series, with several Dead Space developers onboard, including series co-creator Glen Schofield. With the game now released and looking toward a substantial amount of season pass content, Striking Distance Studios is celebrating by collaborating with a brewery.
As reported by Forbes, Striking Distance Studios, working with Fieldwork Brewing Company, has released a craft beer for The Callisto Protocol - the limited edition Outer Way Stout. As Callisto Protocol looks forward to a potential sequel, a look back at the development process reveals the origins of the collaboration - with Striking Distance's studio opening in San Ramon, close to one of Fieldwork Brewing's taprooms, the taproom became a frequently visited locale for the game's developers.

Following a promising pre-release hype cycle, The Callisto Protocol is receiving extremely negative reviews on Steam due to performance issues. Announced in 2020, The Callisto Protocol gained considerable traction as a sci-fi horror game from Striking Distance Studios, featuring the directing efforts of former Dead Space producer Glen Schofield. However, shortly after its release, the game may be faced with a multitude of problems.
As reported by IGN, The Callisto Protocol is facing overwhelmingly negative reviews on Steam in light of significant technical issues. Even though some considered Callisto Protocol more promising than Silent Hill 2's upcoming remake, the game's rating on Steam currently sits at an abysmal 29, with many reviewers citing massive stuttering and framerate issues. Notably, only the PC version of the game seems to be affected, and although some users on Steam have reported fixes, or even a lack of problems in the first place, others describe...

With the release of The Callisto Protocol fast approaching, many fans are crossing their fingers for grossly-good gore - and luckily, details revealed by the game's developers ensure that they will not be disappointed. Glen Schofield, the CEO of Striking Distance Studios and director of the upcoming tile, was previously the co-producer of Dead Space: the massively popular science-fiction horror game that set itself apart from others with disturbingly intricate and interactive gore. Even apart from his shining track record, though, Schofield has taken it to a whole new level in The Callisto Protocol - so how much gore does The Callisto Protocol actually have?
The survival horror title, which is set to release on December 2, features an elaborate gore system that is nothing short of immersive and realistic. In fact, even compared to the highly anticipated Dead Space remake, The Callisto Protocol's gore outshines its original inspiration and predecessor.

Players must face terrifying creatures as they uncover the secrets of the United Jupiter Company. The game is a story-driven, single-player survival horror from the mind of Glen Schofield. This plays like a two minute sci-fi short film about discovering a prison where everyone is dead but coming back to life. Some freaky shit. ›››

We’re only a week away from The Callisto Protocol being out in the wild. And to seemingly culminate the marketing campaign, Striking Distance Studios has released a live-action TV spot for The Callisto Protocol. Not only that, but there are two versions of the TV spot.
The 45 second spot sees Josh Duhamel doing his non-cg version of protagonist Jacob Lee, crash-landing on Callisto, flashing between several scenes of Jacob making his way through the death and destruction in Black Iron Prison. The spot ends on a cliché note, hoping to entice those still holding out on picking the game up.
However, in fitting fashion, there’s another version of the TV spot for The Callisto Protocol that is of the Red Band variety (courtesy of IGN), showing more of the red stuff, gory goodness, and more unpleasant imagery. This one adds a minute to the original ad, so bully for us!

The classic co-op action of the official The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King video game was made with the help of golf, as it has been revealed that the game used the Tiger Woods PGA Tour engine. Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movie trilogy had two incredible tie-in games that are still fondly remembered by fans to this day, with The Two Towers game launching in 2002 and Return of the King launching in 2003. Return of the King is considered the stronger of the two, thanks to its multiplayer co-op, expanded character roster, and reams of content.
It turns out that the Lotr: Return of the King game was built using an unlikely engine. In a recent interview with Wired (as spotted by TheGamer), Callisto Protocol Director Glen Schofield discussed Lotr's sequel game and its development. After getting some help from The Walking Dead‘s Robert Kirkman in the first episode, he’s back once again with Striking Distance Studios’ second entry in their “Mastering Horror” docuseries for The Callisto Protocol. This second episode of Mastering Horror, entitled “Atmosphere & Tension”, focuses on (what else?) the way atmosphere and tension are used in horror entertainment, and how the team at Striking Distance Studios is implementing them in The Callisto Protocol to heighten players’ sense of fear.
Joining Kirkman once again are Glen Schofield and the development team at Striking Distance Studios, along with the cast of The Callisto Protocol, Tom Savini, Alec Gillis, Sean Cunningham and more notable horror personalities. The series of clips sees the participants discuss how to build tension in a game like The Callisto Protocol, which includes looking at pacing, and its effective use.

We’re all hungry for Striking Distance Studios’ The Callisto Protocol. The studio knows it, and are keeping the anticipation building with the release of part one of their docuseries on The Callisto Protocol entitled “Mastering Horror”.
The first of a three-part series, Episode 1 sees director Glen Schofield, along with members of the development team and personalities from the horror genre (such as The Walking Dead‘s Robert Kirkman) go behind the scenes of The Callisto Protocol and discuss their shared love of horror.
Entitled “Brutality”, this first episode shows plenty of it in The Callisto Protocol. If you’ve been keeping up with the various previews (including our own by Thomas), you know that the game is going to be a bloody affair.
In fact, it’s so bloody, that according to the game’s Japanese Twitter account, the game’s release in Japan has been cancelled due to...

Glen Schofield, the director of upcoming sci-fi survival horror game The Callisto Protocol, has already expressed interest in creating a sequel. The gaming industry veteran is known for co-creating the Dead Space franchise, with The Callisto Protocol serving as a spine-chilling spiritual successor to that futuristic horror series. The Callisto Protocol is widely considered one of the most exciting upcoming horror games of 2022, and Schofield seems confident that a future sequel is in the stars.
Set for release on December 2, The Callisto Protocol will take players to a futuristic prison colony called Black Iron following an outbreak of mysterious undead called Biophage. While the game has been widely compared to Dead Space in terms of premise and aesthetic, gameplay in Striking Distance Studios' survival horror project seems pretty different from Visceral Games' horror franchise. The Callisto Protocol wears its inspirations and ancestry on its sleeve: it’s a dark, violent survival horror game directed by Glen Schofield, the co-creator of the original Dead Space.
Like Dead Space, if you had to use one word to describe Callisto, that word would be, as Schofield himself has said, “brutal.” Enemies fasten onto your neck, spring out of nowhere, shrug off gunfire, and are actively trying to mutate into something even worse.
If you don’t splatter them across the wall, they might not actually be dead, so your first move whenever something stops moving is to run over there and stomp in its rib cage. It’s like the fight choreographer for Brawl in Cell Block 99 made a horror game.
If this all sounds familiar, it should. The Callisto Protocol is effectively the Bloodstained to Dead Space‘s Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. It’s not...

The Callisto Protocol is beautifully grotesque, appealingly brutal, and a visually impressive performer on the PlayStation 5. This debut title from Striking Distance Studios is replete with bona fides and - if the preview is any indication - seems a worthy spiritual successor to a Dead Space, updated for modern appetites.
Dead Space is catching headlines as well, with EA’s long-awaited remake expecting a release next year, but The Callisto Protocol is an original IP born from some head-turning talent. Industry veteran and Dead Space franchise co-creator Glen Schofield directs the new title, making it even harder to discuss one game without mentioning the other, with each combining action-oriented survival horror with grimdark science fiction amid buckets of viscera.

Screen Rant was able to test drive a portion of The Callisto Protocol’s gameplay this month, blasting off alien limbs and stomped credits out of corpses.

Konami's presentation revealed several new projects for the long-running series, as well as the long-suspected Silent Hill 2 remake. The announcements from the presentation overall have garnered mixed feelings from Silent Hill fans, particularly because many feel that Silent Hill 2 doesn't need a remake when compared to other titles in the series that would benefit from it much more, like the original Silent Hill. With a particularly robust list of upcoming horror games set to come out over the next year or so, there are many games that are more exciting than a Silent Hill 2 remake.
Silent Hill 2 is undoubtedly one of the most famous entries in the series, as well as one of the most beloved. The title follows protagonist James Sunderland in the town of Silent Hill, who travels there after receiving a mysterious letter supposedly from his dead wife telling him to meet her there.

One of the most surprising games of E3 2016, Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding, will not be on stage this year when Sony presents their wares. Read Kojima's tweet below and see if you can decipher it. Plus, find out when you can see the man, himself, live and in person at E3!

Alas, we aren't so lucky this year as Kojima has tweeted out that his team has decided to forego E3 2017 in favor of spending that time developing. No Auto-Regenerating Health In Call Of Duty: WWII’s Campaign; Sledgehammer Bigs Up “Emotional” Story
Since it was first introduced via Punch-Out in ’83, the concept of regenerating health has become a tried-and-tested hallmark of the video game industry, and if there’s one franchise that embraces the game mechanic wholeheartedly, it’s Call of Duty. In the heat of battle, players simply have to avoid taking damage for a set amount of time and voila, your in-game avatar is right as rain.
That all changes with the launch of Call of Duty: WWII though, with developer Sledgehammer Games revealing that, in an effort to add a heightened sense of realism, players will be required to limp over to their nearby medic when their health runs low. The same rule applies to ammunition; once that stash of bullets is gone, you’ll have to call upon your fellow squadmates for help.
Glen Schofield, co-founder of Sledgehammer, offered up some context in a recent interview with Polygon,...

Despite going on to become the best-selling game of 2016 in the United States, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare “wasn’t the success” Activision envisioned.

Per the publisher’s three-tier development cycle, Sledgehammer Games has been elected at the helm for Call of Duty 2017, and early reports claim the Advanced Warfare dev is planning to circle back to the 20th century – World War II, in all likelihood – for the...

Infinity Ward may be next in line to take the reins of Activision’s Call of Duty franchise as per the publisher’s three-tier development cycle, but that hasn’t prevented Advanced Warfare developer Sledgehammer Games from teasing fans of its next project.
In what is surely a wink and a nudge toward 2017’s installment in the first-person shooter juggernaut, the company’s Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer Glen Schofield took to Twitter earlier today to touch base with Sledgehammer’s next release. Skating around the specifics, Schofield revealed he is “so f**king stoked” about the game, and that the creative team has kept one ear to the ground in order to acknowledge fan feedback.

In keeping with previous content packs, Activision has confirmed that Microsoft’s timed exclusivity for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare‘s Ascendence Dlc will expire after a thirty-day period, meaning that the add-on will make its way onto PlayStation 4 and PC come April 30.
First released for Xbox platforms at the tail-end of March, Ascendence will bring about a total of four all-new multiplayer maps for the futuristic shooter, and that quartet in question will include Perplex, Chop Shop, Climate and the Mount Rushmore-set Site 244. Like Havoc before it, this Dlc will introduce players to a host of new weaponry, alongside the new-fangled grapple mechanic which will make the jump from single-player into Advanced Warfare‘s multiplayer segment.
Multiplayer isn’t the only focus of Ascendence, however, as the content pack also includes a new map for the game’s ever-popular Zombies Mode. Taking place on the outskirts of a desolated Atlas compound,...
