GTMax Review: A High-Octane Ride That Falls Short of Its Promise
Image
French action cinema tells stories through movement, mixing personal struggles with engine sounds and excitement. GTMax, directed by Olivier Schneider, continues this style with its own character, trading Hollywood’s Fast & Furious cars for quick scooters racing through twisted Paris streets. Schneider, who coordinated stunts for Fast & Furious 6 and No Time to Die, applies his skills to make a film mixing speed with feeling.

GTMax tells a story about staying strong and family ties during money troubles and hard choices. The story shows Soélie, who used to race motocross before stopping after an accident and loss. Her family’s motocross shop starts failing, pulling her toward risky heists where her riding skills help and endanger her.

Netflix added GTMax to their French action movies, which mix action scenes with cultural meaning and deep feelings. The film stands out by focusing on scooter chases and showing how family...

‘GTMax’ Netflix Review: French Action Thriller Covers Up Its Flaky Story With High-Octane Stunts
Image
There’s no denying that The Fast and the Furious was inspired by a plethora of vehicular heist films that preceded it, but it also ended up being a source of inspiration for many action films that came after it. If we look at the North American market, after the success of the Ff franchise, films like Torque, Need for Speed, and Baby Driver were greenlit. Russia jumped on the trend with Street Racers. So did Malaysia with Evolusi Kl Drift and its sequel Evolusi Kl Drift 2; yes, they weren’t hiding their love for Tokyo Drift. India launched the massively popular Dhoom franchise. The Norwegian film industry also spawned a franchise inspired by the Ff films, i.e., the Borning trilogy. While the French were ahead of the curve with the two Taxi movies, they eventually expanded it into a five-film franchise after the demand for vehicular mayhem increased in the 2000s.

GTmax (2024)
Netflix introduces “Gtmax,” a French film that explores motorcycles, heists, and sibling loyalty
GTmax (2024)
“Gtmax” is a French movie directed by Olivier Schneider starring

Ava Baya, Gérard Lanvin, and Riadh Belaïche.

“Gtmax” is a highly traditional thriller centered around motorcycles and a family’s deep passion for these machines. This film tells a classic story more about familial love than speed, focusing on character-driven narratives rather than action sequences. However, everything revolves around the captivating world of motorcycles, which, for some, is a way of life.

Plot Summary

A young man tries to make a living as a motocross racer, while his sister assists with mechanical tasks. The racing team is family-owned, and they face financial struggles to keep their business afloat as larger brands with superior motorcycles dominate the races. To help out, the siblings get entangled in a criminal network involving thefts and high-speed getaways on motorcycles. At the heart of this, there’s an extraordinary bike, both sturdy and fast, the Gtmax.

The Rhythm Section Fight Choreography Featurette Turns Blake Lively Into a Killer [Exclusive]
Blake Lively in Le Rythme de la vengeance (2020)
Paramount has just released The Rhythm Section digitally and provided us with an exclusive look at the bonus material. The action drama stars Blake Lively, Jude Law, and Sterling K. Brown, and follows a grieving woman who sets out for revenge after discovering the plane crash that killed her family was a terrorist attack. However, that is barely scratching the surface on this layered drama. The Rhythm Section is currently available on Digital and will be released on Blu-ray Combo Pack April 28th from Paramount Home Entertainment.

Our exclusive look at The Rhythm Section finds supervising stunt coordinator Olivier Schneider discussing the work that Blake Lively had to put into one particular fight scene. As Schneider shows, it was not an easy task, though it looks seamless in the clip. It's this key scene where Lively's Stephanie character is "practicing to become a killer," as Schneider puts it. The clip...

Daniel Craig in Mourir peut attendre (2021)
‘Bond 25’: More Has Been Revealed About Daniel Craig’s Finale Than You Might Think
Daniel Craig in Mourir peut attendre (2021)
We still don’t have a title for “Bond 25,” but we’ve got a baddie (“Bohemian Rhapsody” Oscar winner Rami Malek), a Bond lady (Ana de Armas from “Blade Runner 2049”), and a premise for Cary Joji Fukunaga to direct. Obviously, it was less than what we were hoping for, as producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced the full cast during a live stream event Thursday from author Ian Fleming’s GoldenEye retreat in Jamaica (the spiritual home of the franchise where “Dr. No” and “Live and Let Die” were filmed).

Eschewing the usual Bond launch press conference, they were joined by James Bond star Daniel Craig and Fukunaga, who answered a few fan questions from Twitter. Meanwhile, Malek provided a quip via a video feed from New York about “making sure that Bond doesn’t have an easy ride.”

Luc Besson Gives You a Taste of Assassin School in the Trailer for His New Web-Series Playground
Luc Besson, the filmmaker behind The Professional, The Fifth Element, Lucy, Transporter, Taken, and mor,e has an awesome looking new web-series coming out called Playground. I've enjoyed most of the films that Besson has developed over the years. He always tends to do cool stuff with badass action and Playground definitely looks like it delivers on that.

Variety describes the series as a "high-voltage" mix of Nikita and Kick-Ass. The story is set in Paris and centers on a teenage girl who joins a school for assassins in an effort to uncover the mystery behind her parent's death.

The series looks like it offers a compelling story mixed with some hardcore brutal action. That action comes from fight choreographer Olivier Schneider, who's known for working on films such as Spectre, Taken, Fast and Furious 6, and more. I'm actually excited about watching this. I always thought it would've been...

Blu-ray Review: Predictable ‘Safe House’ Salvaged by Top-Notch Cast
Chicago – Some studios seem hellbent on going out of their way to diminish audience expectations prior to a film’s release. The thoughtful, quietly powerful thriller, “The Grey,” was marketed to resemble a silly man vs. wolf action blockbuster, and yet still managed to have a big opening weekend at the box office. Are mainstream audiences seduced by the promise of dreck?

The ads for Daniel Espinosa’s “Safe House” portrayed the film as if it were an uninspired retread of “Training Day,” with a scenery-chewing Denzel Washington causing his screen partner/hostage to squirm with anxiety. Yet the film itself is more intriguing than one may have expected, since the script allows for a healthy dose of moral ambiguity. Sure, some characters are rotten to their core, but the good guys aren’t saints either. CIA agent Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds) operates from a place of pure-hearted integrity, yet...

Safe House: director Daniel Espinosa talks tough
Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds are along for the ride as Swedish director Daniel Espinosa follows the Scandinavian trail to Hollywood blazed by Nicolas Winding Refn

When people readabout what it actually is they say, 'Oh, that's nothing. You lay down, they put a wet towel over your face and then they pour water over it,' but the sensation is horrific. YouTube it! Most people couldn't handle a second."

Chilean-Swedish director Daniel Espinosa is cheerfully describing the mechanics of waterboarding. It seems as apt a topic of discussion as any for a director described by Ryan Reynolds, the star of his new film, as an "intuitive, intellectual thug". But this isn't just sadistic small talk. Espinosa's latest, Safe House, contains a prominent waterboarding scene, with Denzel Washington as the victim, and Espinosa is at pains to stress that the film's portrayal was as accurate as possible. "I wanted it...

Liam Neeson interview: Unknown, Taken 2, Krull, Star Wars, Darkman and more
With action thriller Unknown out in cinemas this week, we chat to actor Liam Neeson about his greatest geek films and the possibility of a Taken sequel…

I'm actually at a slight loss as to how to introduce Liam Neeson. He's a magnificent actor, who's been in my life for decades, always defying expectations and as adept at portraying heartbreak in the likes of Love Actually as he is at breaking bones in Taken.

His geek credentials run far and deep, from John Boorman's Excalibur back in 1981, as one of the heroic thieves in the mighty Krull, playing the redneck brother to Patrick Swayze and Bill Paxton in Next Of Kin, as the tormented Peyton Westlake in Darkman, before a tremendous dramatic run including Schindler's List, Nell, Rob Roy and Michael Collins led him to become a Jedi Knight in The Phantom Menace.

The list of Neeson's towering performances is incredible,...

Eastern Promises's Steven Knight will pen the screenplay, which will be a heist thriller set in Hong Kong. Jaume Collet-Serra is also set to direct Harker for Warner Bros., a potential franchise starter that follows vampire hunter Jonathan Harker as featured in the original novel Bram Stoker's Dracula.

It is unclear at this time when Red Circle will begin production, and whether it will come before or after Harker. Jaume Collet-Serra's next directorial assignment will be Oren Peli's ABC pilot The River.

Unknown was released February 18th, 2011 and stars Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger, January Jones, Aidan Quinn, Bruno Ganz, Frank Langella, Sebastian Koch, Olivier Schneider. The film is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.
