    • Annie M.G. Schmidt was born on May 20, 1911 in Kapelle, Zeeland, Netherlands. She was a writer and actress, known for Ja zuster, nee zuster (1966), Annie MG (2010) and Comme ça vous chante, Madame la gouvernante (2002). She died on May 21, 1995 in Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands.

Trivia

  • She is the most famous and popular writer of children's books in The Netherlands.
  • Had a relationship with Dr. Dick van Duyn from 1950 until his death in 1981. When they met, Van Duyn was already married with children. He never divorced his first wife. In order to make sure that their son Flip van Duyn got his father's surname, Annie M.G. Schmidt briefly married Dick's widowed father.
  • In 1988 she won the Hans Christian Andersen Award for writers. The most prestigious award in the world for writers of children's books. The prize is awarded biennially in Denmark.
