Biography

    • Alexander Scheer, born 1976 in the heart of the Cold War behind the Iron Curtain in East Berlin, has been described as "the German chameleon" and is considered one of the most versatile actors of his generation.

"That's not a body, that's rubber" is how his ability to transform was summed up in a laudatory speech. His roles sometimes differ so drastically from one another that critics and audiences frequently don't recognize Scheer until the credits roll.

He credibly portrayed such diverse and iconic characters as Keith Richards, Andy Warhol, Friedrich Nietzsche and David Bowie. For over 15 years he was a member of the legendary ensemble at Europe's most influential theater, the Volksbühne.

Scheer is a two-time German Film Award winner and has received numerous other film prizes. He was also nominated for the European Film Award. For his theater work he was voted Actor of the Year.

In "Blood Red Sky" Scheer mutates from terrorist to vampire in a plane and was watched by over 100 million viewers worldwide. In the week of its release, the film reached the number one spot on Netflix in 57 countries.

For "Gundermann", which was awarded 8 Lolas® (including Best Actor, Best Director and Best Film) Scheer sang 15 songs of East German singer-songwriter and miner Gerhard Gundermann himself. The soundtrack album was awarded the German Record Critics' Award a week after its release.

Quotes

  • Did the fall of the Berlin Wall change your life? -You bet! I was born in the center of the Cold War behind the Wall in East Berlin. In 1990 I witnessed the change of an epoch and was 14 twice - once in the East and once in the West. I was socialized bipolar in two opposing concepts of society without having to leave the city. This historical privilege has opened my horizons 360 degrees. I can imagine everything.
