    Italian production designer, trained in architecture. Designed for operas, before being encouraged by Luchino Visconti to work in motion pictures. He won a BAFTA for his work on Visconti's "Death in Venice" (1971). He was also a noted collaborator on several of Bertolucci's films, Oscar winner for "The Last Emperor" in 1988.
