  • Woody Allen said of him, "With Mort Sahl, the whole face of comedy changed completely".
  • Emceed the very first Grammy Awards show at the Beverly Hilton Hotel
  • After sitting through three hours of a screening of director Otto Preminger's 3.5-hour film Exodus (1960), Sahl turned to Preminger and said, "Otto, let my people go".
  • (5 Feb 1997 - 19 Feb 1997) Performing "Mort Sahl's America" in Boston, Massachusetts, USA
  • Attended Compton Junior College before graduating from the University of Southern College with a degree in city management.
  • Joined ROTC when he 15. He left high school, lied about his age and joined the United States Army. It took his mother 2 weeks to get him discharged.
  • Father was an aspiring New York playwright before moving to Montreal & opening a tobacco shop to support his young family. He later moved the family to Los Angeles where he became a clerk for the Department of Justice.
  • After high school he enlisted in the Army Air Force and was stationed in Alaska. He edited the base newspaper, Poop From The Group.
  • Published his memoir "Heartland" in 1976.
