David Saire
In Loving Memory : David Saire 2021 It is with great sadness that the family of Mr. David Saire announce his passing. He passed away peacefully in his sleep in good old Amsterdam where he chose to live many years ago. Born in England he followed his dream to London to become an actor. He played a leading role in the Arnold Wesker Trilogy at the Royal Court Theatre and in 1955 was in Orson Welles Moby Dick at the Duke of Yorks. When he went for the audition Welles asked him do you play the guitar? When David said he didn't, Welles said you look like you should play the guitar, so David was sent to Len William's (father of John) London Guitar School where he learnt the only tune he ever played! Davids work led him to several Shakespeare productions, sharing the stage with among others, Rosemary Harris and Wendy Hiller. He then moved on to television and films starring in Greengage Summer alongside Kenneth More and Susannah York. It was around that time that he met and married Jacqueline Chan; they had two daughters and fifteen memorable years together. After working as a director behind the camera with the BBC and others he moved to Amsterdam and created Images a film production company. He lived in New York for a while then moved back after 9/11 to Amsterdam where he continued to direct and also became a voice artist, returning to his love of acting. David was a man of many talents with a great eye for beauty and anyone who had the chance to cross his path found his natural charm irresistible. David will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Abigail and Jaspa and their mother Jacqueline Chan, his grand children, Jeffrey and Garance and his son in law Didier. He will be missed by many, including his friend Dobrila who he referred to as his guardian angel. All the world is a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts .. William Shakespeare, As You Like it

English stage and screen actor, the son of J. Arthur Rank scriptwriter Sidney Derek Salamon and housewife Sarah Sotnick. David was schooled in Edinburgh, studied drama at the Sorbonne and began his acting career in the mid-50s on the Shakespearean stage (at the London Old Vic in Henry V, Julius Caesar, Othello, The Merry Wives of Windsor and The Winter's Tale). He first appeared on screen from 1957 in BBC TV productions, had a recurring supporting part in the science fiction series The Andromeda Breakthrough (1962) and made his motion picture breakthrough as a resentful youth in Un si bel été (1961) (opposite Susannah York in her first leading role). During the 60s, David worked both in front and behind the camera (as a director) for BBC television. He subsequently became a free-lancer, working out of New York and setting up shop in Amsterdam where he had established a film production company in 1977. Latterly, he also took on voice-over work. David was married to the actress Jacqueline Chan between 1962 and 1989.
