Mother Ranjana Sachdev (Raziyah) was married to Ahmed Ali Khan ( used the name Aashiq Hussain for his music/ poetry career). From this marriage they had singer Anwar Hussain and 2 daughters named Reshma and Asha. Reshma would later marry actor, producer Coca Cola. Ahmed and Ranjana got divorced in the early 1960's. The daughters went to go live with Ranjana. Ranjana married her lawyer Sachdev. This when Ranjana officially became "Ranjana Sachdev".Years later when Asha decided to become a actress, she took the screen name "Asha Sachdev" after her mother's new surname. Anwar Hussain went to go live with his father. Ahmed Ali Khan remarried and had son actor Arshad Warsi from this marriage. Ahmed died in 1987 from bone cancer.

Was involved with stunt director Gerry Crampton during his stay in India. He directed the stunts of Shaan.
