Natasha Ryan in L'Horrible Invasion (1977)

Natasha Ryan

The Day Time Ended
Long Awol from Home Video — the last time I peeked it was an unwatchable pan-and-scanned laserdisc — this early Charles Band opus came at a time when the purveyor of third-class horror thrills could command a budget. A rather phenomenal list of ’70s special effects hopefuls collaborated to give the show lasting appeal, mainly by including some stop motion monsters from a parallel dimension. An average American family spends a chaotic night battling bizarre phemoneema… phelomea… stuff that’s leaked into our reality through that nuisance Sci-fi catch-all, a Time-Space Warp. A pair of big name stars twenty years past their sell-by date endure all manner of rubber critters, zipping flying saucers and green-glowing supernatural artifacts!

‘The Amityville Horror’ Blu-ray Review (Second Sight)
Stars: James Brolin, Margot Kidder, Rod Steiger, Don Stroud, Murray Hamilton, John Larch, Natasha Ryan, K.C. Martel, Meeno Peluce, Michael Sacks, Helen Shaver | Written by Sandor Stern | Directed by Stuart Rosenberg

When films say they are based on true stories, it is easy to take such statements with a pinch of salt. The Amityville Horror though is one that is so enshrined in pop culture that it has a whole legend built up around it, whether it is true or not. Second Sight have now brought the popular horror to Blu-ray in the UK and it is well worth buying.

The Amityville Horror is the story of the Lutz family, who move into the perfect family home on the coast of Long Island. Surprised at how cheap it was, it soon becomes apparent why when the shocking history of the house is revealed, along with the demonic presence that resides there.

DVD Review: The Day Time Ended
The Day Time Ended

Stars: Jim Davis, Christopher Mitchum, Dorothy Malone, Marcy Lafferty, Natasha Ryan | Written by Wayne Schmidt, J. Larry Carroll & David Schmoeller | Directed by John ‘Bud’ Carlos

Sometimes you pick the films you’re going to review based entirely on how ridiculous the titles are. It works for a while: you get a few choice so-bad-they’re-good b-movies and the occasional left-field gem, and most of the time the title alone is worth the movie’s inevitable failure to live up to its own hype.

And then you come across a film like The Day Time Ended.

I’d tell you the plot, but I’m really not sure it has one. The opening narration is so badly mixed that I couldn’t tell if it was part of the story or just an old Shatner record played backwards. IMDb relays it thusly: “Aliens visit the solar-powered house of a middle-class family,...

The Amityville Horror Mythology Expands with New Movie
Producer Tony DeRosa-Grund is moving forward with an untitled project that expands the mythology behind The Amityville Horror.

The original 1979 thriller is based on an actual house in the Long Island neighborhood of Amityville, where Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered six family members in 1974. One year later, George Lutz and his family moved into the house, where they encountered horrific, paranormal events that forced them to move out just 28 days later. This new project will be based on the experiences of Laura Didio and Marvin Scott, two journalists who investigated the bizarre incidents for Wnew-tv in New York.

Tony DeRosa-Grund and his Evergreen Media Group acquired the rights to the reporters' account of a seance that took place in the house on March 6, 1976. The news report supposedly revealed the presence of supernatural beings, including a young boy in the house. Here's what Laura Didio had to say about the project.

"Marvin...
