Finally Dawn Review — Lily James and Willem Dafoe Star in a Sprawling, Absorbing Drama
Image
Finally Dawn (Finalmente l’alba) is a soulful Italian period drama written and directed by Saverio Costanzo. While far from perfect, the film is genuinely immersive in its ability to transport viewers to another time and place. Set during the 1950s and 1960s—an era when Hollywood productions flocked to Rome.

This period saw major American stars, including Elizabeth Taylor, Gregory Peck, and Audrey Hepburn, headline films such as Ben-Hur (1959), Roman Holiday (1953), Cleopatra (1963), and Quo Vadis (1951). The result was a cinematic fusion of classic Roman backdrops and American glamour that remains iconic to this day.

Finally Dawn uses this rich setting as a backdrop to tell an absorbing story that unfolds like a sprawling novel, full of twists, turns, and layered subplots. While it can feel convoluted at times, the narrative ultimately finds its way and proves cinematically satisfying.

Free as a Bird – Rob Zombie’s ‘The Devil’s Rejects’ Turns 20
Image
Rob Zombie has been one of the most polarizing figures in the horror community since making the leap from musician to filmmaker. He made his feature writing and directorial debut with House of 1000 Corpses in 2003 — after being purchased by Lionsgate when its original studio, Universal, shelved it three years prior due to fears of it receiving a dreaded Nc-17 rating.

Corpses fell victim to many issues faced by first-time directors — Zombie was seemingly unsure if he’d ever get the opportunity to make another movie, resulting in an anarchic mélange of ideas and influences — but the end result remains potent all these years later. Despite the troubled production and a largely unfavorable critical response, the film turned a healthy profit, giving Zombie the sinister urge to make a sequel as his sophomore effort.

Released 20 years ago today, The Devil’s Rejects is decidedly more grounded in reality than its heightened predecessor.

5 sci-fi books to read if you don’t like sci-fi
Image
We all tend to have our favorite genres of books. If we try something new, sometimes all it takes is one bad book to make us uninterested in anything else from that category. Science fiction books can present a challenge for readers who don't fancy spending their time reading about aliens or time travel or other otherworldly phenomena.

However, don’t rule out the entire sci-fi genre. There are a plenty of books that engage with sci-fi ideas without being overwhelming. They may happen to be set in space or make use of other sci-fi tropes, but then they develop in ways that evokes other genres.

Here are five books that are great if you want to test the waters of sci-fi even though the genre initially puts you off. You will not be disappointed.

Netflix has released the first teaser for “The Diplomat” Season 3, confirming a fall 2025 premiere and unveiling “West Wing” alumnus Bradley Whitford as First Gentleman Todd Penn alongside returning star Keri Russell.

The 90-second clip, dropped 12 June, caps a shoot that wrapped in London and New York and reunites Whitford with Allison Janney, now playing President Grace Penn. “I was thrilled… I love Keri. I love Rufus. And I hear Allison Janney is good at acting too,” Whitford quipped.

“The Diplomat” is getting another boost of star power: The buzzy political drama brings Bradley Whitford into the fold for a “West Wing” reunion with Allison Janney, whose character was the catalyst for the jaw-dropping events in Season 2.

An Erotic Thriller With A 94% Rotten Tomatoes Score Was Disqualified From The Oscars For An Absurd Reason
Image
An erotic thriller that has a 94% Rotten Tomatoes score and should have been a shoe in for Oscar nominations ended up being disqualified for a technicality. Kevin Smith has been promoting the re-release of his cult classic Dogma into theaters, and he mentioned the Oscar controversy concerning his lead actress for that movie, Linda Fiorentino.

Kevin Smith went on The Rich Eisen Show to talk about the re-release of Dogma. The two discussed some interesting trivia about how Smith wanted Samuel L. Jackson to play Rufus. However, Chris Rock wanted the role and Smith said the actor fought for it. He also talked about how star-studded his cast was before discussing his lead actress, Linda Fiorentino, who played Bethany in Dogma. That is when Smith mentioned why he was so excited to get her for the movie.

Smith said Fiorentino just starred in Men in Black, so she had that fame coming in.

15 Movies You Forgot Were Turned Into Animated Series
Image
At this point in the evolution of popular media, it's a cliché to say that everyone's run out of ideas. You need only take a look at a recent year-end box office list to see just how many major properties are getting recycled all the time, rebooted and remade and turned into something new simply because it has built-in name recognition for audiences.

That kind of thing has, in fact, been going on for quite a while. Remakes have been happening since the earliest decades of film history, but in the 1980s and 1990s especially, many breakout movies were immediately monetized as much as possible, adapted into toy lines and breakfast cereals and, yes, Saturday morning cartoons. Some of those cartoons caught on, becoming bona fide smashes in their own right -- for example, it can be jarring to watch the original "Beetlejuice" movie and realize that Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz were not,...

4K Re-Release of Kevin Smith's 'Dogma' Gets Gigantic Update Ahead of Cannes Screening
Image
After years of Dogma being held under lock and key by Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Smith recently reacquired the distribution rights to the film, and a worldwide re-release is currently in the works. Released in 1999, Dogma was one of the most controversial films of the '90s, due to its depictions of various Christian figures, like the twelve (thirteen including Rufus) disciples, the angels Bartleby and Loki, and God himself/herself. Despite that, and the film being withheld from streaming services for years, Dogma has become a cult classic, and it's almost time for fans around the world to enjoy it again on the big screen.

Per Deadline, the French distribution company Goodfellas is backing the upcoming re-release of Kevin Smith's Dogma. The 4K remaster of the film is set to screen at this year's Cannes Film Festival, as part of the festival's Cannes Classics sidebar. Kevin Smith acquired the rights...

Hiro Mashima Basically Forgot the One ‘Fairy Tail’ Character With the Most Underused Potential
Image
You just got to hand it to Hiro Mashima for making Fairy Tail a masterpiece with that world of magic, friends, and crazy battles. Natsu burns everything, Erza cuts through legions of enemies, and Lucy summons celestial spirits.

The guild is filled with great characters, and most of them have a moment to shine in this series. But one particular character has continually gotten the short end of the stick, and it is a real shame. Gray Fullbuster, the calm ice wizard, has been left out in the cold (pun intended).

He has got this backstory that just hits you differently, but isn’t he supposed to be a major character? Mashima makes some really good moments for Gray, and then just throws him away! It is like he got confused about how much potential this character has.

Gray has so much more to give in Fairy Tail

No doubt,...

Kevin Smith Has Been Writing Dogma 2, But There Will Be Two Major Changes In The Sequel
Image
For the longest time, word about what might be happening with the 1999 Kevin Smith opus "Dogma" was nil. Trapped in the clutches of the Weinstein Brothers, it seemed that the original movie was likely to never be re-released in theaters or on physical or streaming media, never mind the long-rumored sequel coming to pass. Fortunately, thanks to the efforts of Iconic Events and others, Smith has regained control of the film and as such, has embarked on a massive multi-city tour, showing a spiffy new restoration of the movie as well as appearing in super-sized post-screening Q&a sessions. Both this writer and /Film's Ethan Anderton were lucky to attend a couple of these screenings, and got to hear some fascinating tales about the making of "Dogma" and its resurrection.

Although Smith mentioned at both screenings that he is currently working on a proper "Dogma" sequel, it was at the...

Urban Jungle Review: A Green‑Thumb Puzzle Adventure
Image
Each episode unfolds like a new planting season, mirroring the eleven stages of Ayta’s life. Opening with a vibrant spring‑themed chapter at her grandmother’s cottage, the show sets a rhythmic pace: winter’s muted palette gives way to summer’s lush interiors, then cool autumn hues, before returning to cozy beginnings. This chapter‑based approach borrows from level design in puzzle games, inviting viewers to anticipate fresh challenges and emotional beats with every shift in season.

Rooms act as living characters. The grandmother’s home brims with heirloom pottery and bright floral accents; Ayta’s first solo flat, by contrast, spreads empty corners waiting for greenery and personal touches. Each piece of furniture, every pot and draping fern signals not only the year of her journey but her evolving confidence in shaping space—and self.

Plant arrangements serve as visual markers of inner transformation. Sparse seedlings in...

15 Best Voice Actors Of All Time, Ranked
Image
Most of Hollywood's biggest talents are known by their faces. However, a notable few are beloved for their voice. In the often underappreciated art of voice acting, a host of otherwise unrecognizable names have helped define pop culture institutions and inspire generations of viewers by lending their vocals to characters we all know and love. From Homer Simpson to SpongeBob SquarePants, the voice actor is a foundational part of the entertainment ecosystem, yet they rarely see the same spotlight that live-action stars receive almost daily.

In rectification of that, let's recognize a who's who of voice acting legends by counting down the best voice actors of all time. As you can imagine, the specific rankings in this list are arbitrary, as all of these folks are exceptionally talented and largely for the same reasons. There are also plenty of folks we don't have the digital real estate to include, so...

Tracker prides itself on being anything but ordinary.

Sure, we get cases of the week, which is a formula as old as time, but we’re not getting your average missing person every week. They deal with cases that fall far outside the box, which sets it apart from most other action dramas on television.

This could have easily been a whole hour of Colter out in the wilderness battling the elements and trying to find Shelly and Brianna, but things went...

"Two tickets to New Jersey, please." The two fallen angels are back! Kevin Smith has revealed a brand new trailer for the 25th Anniversary of Dogma, his celebrated religious comedy classic that first opened in 1999. It's unfortunate the Wyld Stallyns was a fictional band, it could have been the world's greatest rock icon. Cult fans have a chance to relive their adventures when the Bill & Ted trilogy streams for free next month, on Tubi.

Tubi is streaming the Bill & Ted film trilogy for free on Apr. 1. Fans can binge watch Excellent Adventure, Bogus Journey, and Face the Music, and then hope to see for the teased fourth movie. The series revolved around its titular characters' time-traveling quests to foster a Wyld Stallyns Utopia. 1989's Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure was a box office hit, ensuring the 1991 would be greenlighted. Bogus Journey flopped, but it established a cult following that clamored for a followup; that was fulfilled 29 years later in 2020's Face the Music. Lead stars Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves played Bill and Ted to a tee, self-aware, audacious, and carefree.

This Forgotten Hidden Gem Disney Channel Original Movie Still Holds Up Nearly 20 Years Later
Image
Numerous Disney Channel Original Movies or DCOMs, as they're commonly called by fans, remain timeless and nostalgic years after their release. Classics like High School Musical, Camp Rock and The Cheetah Girls became embedded in children's media and pop culture, helping launch the careers of many renowned actors and singers. While live-action DCOMs are often what come to mind when thinking about the most iconic titles, many of Disney Channel's animated films are just as deserving of the spotlight.

Seamlessly melding action/thriller elements with archetypal teen drama, Kim Possible is remembered as one of Disney's best cartoons. The end of the second season saw Kim meeting a Hollywood producer dead-set on making a movie about the teen hero and her best friend/sidekick Ron Stoppable. An actual film, Kim Possible Movie: So the Drama was developed andpremiered on Toon Disney on April 8, 2005. The film was Disney Channel's first official...

The Hunting Party Season 1 Episode 5 Created Its’ Messiest Serial Killer Yet
Image
Each serial killer on The Hunting Party has been intriguing, but Roy Barber was the most complex and twisty.

The Hunting Party Season 1 Episode 5 was my favorite installment because the murder mystery kept changing, and the team cemented their relationship.

While procedurals don’t need fluffy romance, Bex’s relationships with Shane and Oliver were heavily coded, and so was her relationship with her daughter, Sam.

(David Astorga/NBC)

After several episodes, The Hunting Party found the balance of what worked for them.

Childhood Trauma is One of the Major Triggers For Murder

While we never condone murder, witnessing childhood trauma, especially violent abuse, traumatizes people.

Roy Barber’s father killed his mother and then killed himself when Roy was still a young teenager. He was never close to anyone but his mother, so that destroyed him.

Ko Zandvliet and Gijs Blom in Boys (2014)
Supernatural actors set to reunite in The Boys final season
Ko Zandvliet and Gijs Blom in Boys (2014)
It's official! The upcoming final season of Amazon Prime's The Boys will feature actors Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins as guest stars.

These actors are perhaps best known for their starring roles alongside The Boys regular, Jensen Ackles, in the cult classic 2005 show, Supernatural. With Eric Kripke being the showrunner for The Boys and the original showrunner and creator of Supernatural, it makes sense to see some actor crossover. Besides Ackles, the two shows share Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Joe Kessler & John Winchester), Rob Benedict (Splinter & Chuck/God), Alexander Calvert (Rufus & Jack), and Jim Beaver (Bob Singer &… Bob Singer). And those are just the big ones. At this point, the question becomes why they haven't brought on Jared and Misha sooner.

We can talk all we want about scheduling conflicts and actor fallout, and I'm sure those things definitely played a part, but I think it's bigger than that. You can...

Penn Badgley, Blake Lively, Taylor Momsen, Leighton Meester, Jessica Szohr, Chace Crawford, and Ed Westwick in Gossip Girl (2007)
The Best Part Of Gossip Girl Was Michelle Trachtenberg
Penn Badgley, Blake Lively, Taylor Momsen, Leighton Meester, Jessica Szohr, Chace Crawford, and Ed Westwick in Gossip Girl (2007)
This article contains a discussion of addiction.

Based (very loosely) on Cecily von Ziegesar's book series, "Gossip Girl" started its run on The CW in 2007 and, in the hands of Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, let us into the exclusive world of a bunch of uber-wealthy Manhattan teenagers, all of whom were played by beautiful twenty-somethings. The whole story begins with the return of the troubled but beautiful socialite Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively), who ran away to boarding school in Connecticut after some sort of traumatizing life experience before the show's narrative began — and when she does come back to New York, she tries to start fresh. Unfortunately for her, that's not an option thanks to one conniving, unhinged troublemaker: Georgina Sparks, played to perfection by Michelle Trachtenberg.

When news broke that Trachtenberg passed away on February 26 at the age of 39, I thought of her starring role...

‘The Bayou’ Movie Ending Explained And Full Story: Did Kyle Get Over Jaime’s Death?
Image
If you consider yourself a fan of trashy monster movies, then I am pretty sure you are familiar with Cocaine Bear and all its rip-offs, which try to put predators like sharks and werewolves in substance-induced frenzies. Because let’s face it, why not? It’s easier to put a mindless twist on age-old creature survival narratives to make easy money than to cultivate the genre by making something unique. Anyway, while most moviegoers don’t really get the appeal of the silly fun derived from these gimmicky flicks, I appreciate the zaniness that goes into making the audience believe in such wild shenanigans. In the vein of such monster exploitation movies, The Bayou asks a question you never thought of—what if alligators got high on meth, and a party of unlikeable characters were put into their territory? The result could have been much more entertaining than it turned out to be,...

Disney Star Christy Carlson Romano 'Grateful' to Be Alive After Getting 'Shot in the Eye'
Image
Disney Channel star Christy Carlson Romano had quite the scare at her husband's birthday celebration when one of the guests inadvertently shot her in the face. Fortunately, she's okay, as revealed in an update shared on social media.

On Instagram, Romano posted a video of herself revealing the wound she sustained just below her left eye. She shared that there was an incident that happened on Saturday when she took her husband, Brendan Rooney, to shoot clay pigeons for his birthday. In the caption of her Instagram post, Romano shared that during that time, "another party" had "unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face." Romano was struck in five places, with one fragment narrowly missing her eye, and it remains in place as doctors say it's "too risky" to attempt to surgically remove the fragment at this time.

Working on 'Shifting Gears' Reminds Tim Allen of Annoying Alan Rickman While Filming 'Galaxy Quest'
Image
Tim Allen is back on TV in his new ABC sitcom, Shifting Gears, and in a recent interview he likened working on the series to acting alongside the late Alan Rickman on Galaxy Quest for one reason. While it seems that the sci-fi parody and Allen’s new grounded sitcom are worlds apart – literally – for Allen, there is definitely something that he feels about his newest venture that harkens back to the much-loved 1999 movie – the fun and chaotic working environment that drove Rickman to distraction.

Allen’s new sitcom, which also stars MCU’s Kat Dennings, has not been given the warmest welcome with its first reviews, landing “rotten” 44% and 46% Rotten Tomatoes scores from critics and audiences, respectively. This is a very different result to the stellar 90% Tomatometer score that Galaxy Quest landed over 25 years ago, when Allen was arguably at the height of his career.

However, it seems that...

“He could tell I was locked in”: Matthew McConaughey’s First Real Performance Is Almost Supernatural That Made Joel Schumacher Change His Mind
Image
Matthew McConaughey got his big break as a leading drama actor, thanks to his role as attorney Jake Brigance in A Time to Kill. It was Joel Schumacher’s second film adaptation of a John Grisham novel. Interestingly, the studio initially wanted a recognizable name in the role of the young lawyer. The director was among the few who believed McConaughey could pull off a leading role.

One particular story the Interstellar actor shared from the set about filming the most important scene suggests that he and Schumacher were destined to be collaborators for this project. McConaughey’s closing statement had the power to make or break the film, but it was a supernatural connection between the director and actor that helped nail the scene.

Everyone Who Dies In The Day Of The Jackal Season 1
Image
Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Day of the Jackal season 1.

The Day of the Jackal (2024) follows a highly skilled assassin who racks up quite the death toll over just 10 episodes, but he is not the only killer seen on screen. The series is an updated and contemporary adaptation of an earlier 1973 film, which was in turn based on a novel from a few years earlier by Frederick Forsyth. The series stars Eddie Redmayne as the titular Jackal, and Lashana Lynch as the determined MI6 agent Bianca Pullman, who is in hot pursuit.

While Jackal is clearly intended to a be a villain, with his role as an assassin being a clear sign of his morals, the series explores the complexity of everyone's motivations. From the very first episode, there are numerous deaths. These range from targets, to bystanders, and even people who stand in MI6's way.

Image
Popularly known for playing the moody and often misunderstood professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter franchise, the late actor Alan Rickman had been one of Britain’s most celebrated stars. But while the magical film series catapulted Rickman to global fame, it also left a myriad of his works overlooked and underappreciated.

One such gem from his wealth of underrated movies is Richard Curtis’ Christmas favorite Love Actually, which starred Alan Rickman beside the Mr. Bean star Rowan Atkinson. And while the 2003 movie proved to be one of his best performances to date, Rickman had reportedly reached his limits in the film while working alongside Atkinson.

FF7 Remake Part 3 Has The Perfect Starting Location
Image
The third part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is the perfect starting point for players to head to first. FF7 Rebirth contains most of the content from the first disc of the original PlayStation release. However, a few important towns were omitted. Some were optional in the original Final Fantasy 7, but a key main story area is completely absent. This location is Rocket Town, the home of Cid Highwind, where some major events occur.

Because Rocket Town was originally visited before the City of the Ancients, some elements will have to change. Cid already knows that Rude shouldn’t be trusted, having witnessed Cloud fight him and the other Turks. Any specific interactions with Aerith might be removed, though Cloud could still imagine them after the new final boss and the ending of FF7 Rebirth. On the plus side, Yuffie and Vincent could directly integrate more with Rocket Town,...

Rufus and Martha Wainwright are launching a new initiative in honor of their late mother, Kate McGarrigle, to provide musicians living with aggressive cancer time in professional recording studios.

“Folk Cancer: The Kate McGarrigle Project” was inspired by the way McGarrigle — an accomplished singer-songwriter who worked closely with her sister, Anna — found comfort in music as she navigated the final months of her life before her death from cancer in 2010. The project will give musicians with cancer a similar platform to express themselves creatively during such a difficult time and...

Why Jenny Humphrey's Taylor Momsen Left Gossip Girl After Season 4
Image
While Jenny Humphrey was a major character throughout the majority of Gossip Girl, actress Taylor Momsen made an abrupt exit halfway through season 4. Before landing the role in Gossip Girls cast as Dan Humphreys younger sister, Jenny, Momsen was best known for her childhood acting roles in projects such as How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) and Spy Kids 2 (2002). The success of Gossip Girl launched Momsen into a more mature teen role that departed from her past projects, but she would only remain in the main cast for the shows first four seasons.

At the very end of Gossip Girl season 3, Jenny was sent to live in Hudson with her mother, which led to Momsen only having a few appearances back in the city upon her return in season 4. Momsens final episode as a member of Gossip Girls main cast was in season 4, episode 10, Gaslit, which concluded with Jenny returning...

Quincy Jones, architect of 20th Century music, dead at the age 91
Image
Quincy Jones, producer of several of the best-selling albums of all time, died at his home in Bel Air on Sunday as per his publicist. Though his work covered all genres, Jones will forever be best known for helping coronate the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, by helping craft Jackson’s infectious and highly lucrative sound across three classic albums: Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad. In 1985, he produced the “We Are The World” session, arguably the apex of 1980s pop music.

Jones, who in 1968 became the first African-American nominated for a Best Original Song Academy Award with “The Eyes of Love,” received an astonishing 80 Grammy nominations and 28 Grammy Awards throughout his career. His wins were for arranging, producing, and performing, and he won the 1988 Album of the Year prize for Back on the Block, an R&b-pop-hip hop cross-generational collaboration including artists like Ray Charles, Chaka Khan, Ice-t, Kool Moe Dee,...

‘The Diplomat’ Season 2 Ending Explained by Creator, Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell
Image
Note: The following story contains spoilers from “The Diplomat” Season 2 finale.

Just as Keri Russell’s Kate Wyler was ready to sound the alarms bells for British corruption, the politician plotting in “The Diplomat” Season 2 took a sharp turn.

The Netflix series finds Kate and her team collecting incriminating evidence against British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) to prove that he was behind the attack on British aircraft carrier, the Hms Courageous. But their investigation takes a turn when Trowbridge’s former adviser, Margaret Roylin (Celia Imrie), tells Kate that Trowbridge was not involved in the attack, and that she hired Russian mercenary Roman Lenkov to stage an attack that would create outrage, not harm. As we know, it didn’t go to plan and resulted in the death of 40 Royal Navy personnel.

As Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) — whom Kate is supposedly meant to replace in the...
