Hulu has announced that Crave’s Shoresy Season 4 will premiere on Wednesday, February 26 with all six new episodes available in the U.S. on Hulu. The first three seasons are now streaming on Hulu.

Canadian entertainment service Crave also revealed today that Shoresy has been renewed for a fifth season, which will go into production later this spring.

Despite the title, writer/director Denys Arcand’s film is actually a French Canadian satiric crime thriller/comedy about a delivery driver with a PhD in philosophy who finds himself in an ethical dilemma when a bag of stolen loot literally falls at his feet. But then again, maybe it is about the fall of the American empire, as income inequality and the fuzzy boundary between international high finance and high crimes are at the core of this social satire.

Relatively few new limited releases are launching against the likes of Rocketman and Godzilla this weekend. Sony Pictures Classics is rolling out The Fall Of The American Empire, from French-Canadian filmmaker Denys Arcand and starring Alexandre Landry, in New York and Los Angeles, and after more than a decade of very limited screenings at a few film festivals, British filmmaker Gerald Fox’s doc Leaving Home, Coming Home: A Portrait of Robert Frank is finally getting a regular theatrical release. Indie Rights is heading out with satirical comedy Loners in Los Angeles, and Strand Releasing is launching Cannes 2018 title Yomeddine by Abu Bakr Sawky in New York.

Among other limited release titles headed to theaters this weekend are Mouthpiece from Crucial Things and First Generation Films, and Dogwoof’s For The Birds and Vertical Entertainment’s Rich Boy, Rich Girl.

You could be forgiven for confusing the title of Canadian filmmaker Denys Arcand’s latest, the capitalist crime lark “The Fall of the American Empire,” with his 1986 battle-of-the-sexes talkathon, “The Decline of the American Empire.” Though they’re different stories, they’re cut from the same Arcand-ian cloth of sophisticated moral handwringing, with barbed lessons about society’s ills pouring from the mouths of cynical characters.

“Fall” has a broader entertainment canvas, however, with its commentary on avarice, inequality and charity sharing space with wry caper elements straight out of an Ealing Studios comedy. The mix is, for the most part, a welcome one, save one unappealing character, a retrograde love story, and an air that’s almost too blasé for its own good.

The set-up feels a little like something Woody Allen would have given his schlemiel persona in the early ’70s: Pierre-Paul (Alexandre Landry) is a mopey delivery service driver (with a Ph.

Shadowhunters took fans to hell and back (a few times) during Monday’s 2.5-hour series finale, which concluded with one last twist that was anything but mundane.

Charged with alternating currents of droll wit, sardonic cynicism, and socialist-tinged idealism, writer-director Denys Arcand’s “The Fall of the American Empire” is a richly amusing rumination on the excesses and amorality of capitalism that plays like an ingeniously contrived mashup of film noir melodrama and Ealing Studios comedy. Despite the title, the new film has nothing to do with “The Decline of the American Empire,” Arcand’s classic 1986 roundelay about the lusty lives and endless conversations of eight self-regarding French Canadian intellectuals. But it does share at least a few thematic threads with that movie’s Oscar-winning sequel, “The Barbarian Invasions” (2003), which suggested that, in times of crisis, even a die-hard socialist might appreciate the value of having a great deal of money at his disposal.

Of course, you don’t have to have seen either of those earlier works to enjoy “Fall of the American Empire.” It’s very much a stand-alone work,...

The Toronto Intl. Film Festival has added Denys Arcand’s crime thriller “The Fall of the American Empire” and 18 other Canadian films to its lineup.

Nine of the films are directed by women and 14 are world premieres.

Arcand was inspired to make the film after learning about the 2010 murder of two people in a Montreal boutique.

No deal for the film is in place, so a pact could fall through. However, it appears increasingly likely that the indie distributor will land distribution rights. Life's not easy for a baby vampire. You would think dying once would be hard enough, but it doesn't end for him. I would've thought capturing Camille would solve his problems.

On Shadowhunters Season 2 Episode 5, Simon cracked under the pressure of loneliness and returned home to his family. The problem is, however, his vampire side. Mixing humans and a hungry vampire is not a good combination.

Simon is the quintessential underdog of Shadowhunters. He's lovable, he's geeky, and he continues to get picked on by stronger personalities. Everything bad that has happened to him is because of his "so-obvious-it-screams-in-my-face" love for Clary.

Did anyone else's heart melt when he asked Clary if she was sad when he died? I did, and I felt sad for him. He's so in love with her and she only loves him as a friend.

Can Shadowhunters come back from its disappointing first episode? Here's our review of The Mortal Instruments TV opener...

1.1 The Mortal Cup

Lots of pilot episodes seem a bit clunky. They’ve got a fair amount of setting up to do, after all – the first episode of anything needs to introduce its audience to a setting, to characters, and, if the show’s got any kind of sci-fi or fantasy element, to the rules of its universe. So sometimes you get a bit more telling than showing, and some on-the-nose dialogue. That’s generally forgivable. But in the case of Shadowhunters, its first episode was so awkward it might be hard to come back from it.

To give it its due, it gets the first part out of the way quickly and fairly elegantly. The opening sequence establishes that this is a magical world...

Tuesday’s series premiere introduced viewers to Clary Fray (played by Katherine McNamara), a promising art student whose mother drops a hell of a family secret on her: It turns out she’s a Shadowhunter, a human-angel hybrid destined to defend our world from the forces of darkness.

Of course, none of this would be new information to Clary if her mother Jocelyn...

Like a damnably tenacious demon climbing out of hell, Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments has risen from the ashes of a very bad big-screen take on Cassandra Clare’s Ya novels that bombed in theaters just three years ago, shapeshifting and shoehorning the same story of ridiculously attractive monster slayers in modern-day New York into a TV show format.

But disappointingly, though network Freeform (a newly rebranded ABC Family) is evidently hoping to attract more of an audience than the one drawn in by the film, this new series sticks almost exclusively to the same story beats – and almost perfectly mirrors its predecessor’s superficial and soulless flavor, albeit with much worse visual effects (and less subtlety, as indicated by the photo above).

The pilot is so bloated, attempting as it does to relay all the rules of its fictional universe through nauseatingly clunky...

A series title that upholds a long-standing tradition of cop shows throughout the years that use designators in their titles, from the likes of Car 54 Where Are You? to the more recent 10-8: Officers on Duty. 19-2 also continues the more modern tradition of the gritty cop drama, heavily influenced by the likes of cable TV dramas The Shield and The Wire – with the same hardened sensibilities, only this time with a Canadian twist…

Interestingly, 19-2 – as seen on this DVD – is not the original version of the show. This particular iteration of the cop drama is actually an Englich-language remake of the series, which was originally set in Montreal and filmed entirely in French.

Lee Jones in FX’s new series, The Bastard Executioner

Kurt Sutter is poised to return to FX with a new series. FX has given a series order to the new show from Sutter, who previously created Sons of Anarchy and wrote for The Shield, both of which were on FX as well. Titled The Bastard Executioner, the show’s first season will run for ten episodes, with Brian Grazer onboard as executive producer as well. Relative newcomer Lee Jones will be taking on the titular role, with Sons of Anarchy‘s Katey Sagal, True Blood‘s Stephen Moyer, and Starred Up‘s Sam Spruell among the cast, alongside Sutter himself. The Americans‘ Matthew Rhys is also set to guest star on the series.
