‘Spider-Man 4’ Gets an Official Title
Image
Sony Pictures closed out their CinemaCon showcase by revealing the title of Tom Holland’s next “Spider-Man” movie: “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”

Director Destin Daniel Cretton revealed the title by telling a story about how his one-year-old son’s first word was “Spider-Man,” something that happened when the infant pointed at a cover of the comic “Spider-Man: Most Wanted.” He then presented a video reel from Tom Holland, who announced the title but promised he was “well past the hump of spoilers.”

The film will be released in between the two upcoming “Avengers” films: “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars,” and will show Holland’s Peter Parker dealing with a brand new start after the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” in which all memory of him and his secret identity was erased from the universe.

Holland’s film will also come after the actor signed a new producing deal with Sony.

Lee Isaac Chung To Direct Sci-Fi Family Drama ‘The Traveler’ For Skydance
Image
Exclusive: On the heels of Twisters, which grossed over $370 million worldwide in theaters last summer, Oscar nominee Lee Isaac Chung has closed a deal with Skydance to direct The Traveler, a feature adaptation of the novel Traveler by Joseph Eckert.

While the project is in the early stages and the logline is being kept under wraps, sources described The Traveler as an intimate family drama that exponentially develops into a vast science fiction odyssey. The novel explores the life of Scott Treder, a 47-year-old biology technician who begins experiencing involuntary jumps through time, and there’s been interest in mounting a feature adaptation for some time. An early version of the script, penned by Austin Everett, garnered significant industry attention a few years ago, making the Blood List, Hit List, and the Black List, with MGM looking to develop it back in 2019, as we were first to report.

'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse' Voice Actors Have Yet to Record Lines
Image
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and the entire Spider-Verse franchise revealed that there are an infinite number of multi-verses, all with their own canon events. Unfortunately, our canon event is for Beyond the Spider-Verse to never hit theaters. The third installment in the Spider-Verse trilogy (which began with 2018's Into the Spider-Verse) was already meant to be released in theaters in early 2024, but was delayed indefinitely by Sony. Reports on the movie's status are conflicting, but one of its stars just gave a sour update.

During an interview with Decider, to promote his new movie, Unstoppable, Jharrel Jerome gave a disappointing update on Beyond the Spider-Verse's production. The actor, who plays the Earth-42 variant of Miles Morales, was asked if he had begun recording his lines for the movie yet. "No, I wish," was his honest response. Jerome said that pre-production is still underway on the third installment in the trilogy,...

Channing Tatum Says Unproduced ’21 Jump Street’ Crossover With ‘Men In Black’ Is “Still The Best Script” He’s Read
Image
In what sounds like a Hollywood fever dream, Channing Tatum is campaigning for a blockbuster franchise crossover that would truly be out of this world.

Following the news in the 2014 Sony email leak, Tatum confirmed that a crossover of 21 Jump Street and Men in Black, entitled Mib 23, was once in development, and he’s still hoping the ambitious movie gets made.

“There is a project that was written and it’s still the best script that I’ve ever read for a third movie,” he told ComicBook.com after starring alongside Jonah Hill in the 2012 action comedy 21 Jump Street and its sequel 22 Jump Street (2014).

An adaptation of the 1987-1991 Fox series, they played two arguably youthful-looking cops assigned to go undercover in a high school. Original stars Johnny Depp, Holly Robinson and Peter DeLuise made cameos in the movie, with Richard Grieco and Dustin Nguyen appearing in the sequel.

Channing Tatum Says 23 Jump Street Has 'The Best Script' And Still Wants To Make It
Image
Perhaps the best thing to come out of Hollywood's never-ending attempts to turn hit TV shows into movies is Phil Lord & Chris Miller's hilarious take on "21 Jump Street" starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. Taking a cue from the beloved TV series that premiered in 1987 with cast members like Johnny Depp and Richard Grieco, the 2012 action comedy follows the awkward but smart Morton Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and dimwitted, popular star athlete Greg Jenko (Channing Tatum) in their post-high school lives as they become unlikely friends and partners on the police force when they're assigned to an undercover assignment to bust a drug ring in high school.

"21 Jump Street" has just enough meta sensibilities in the story to poke fun at Hollywood's formula of turning TV shows into movies without becoming a full-blown parody, and it also features delightful supporting turns from Brie Larson, Dave Franco, Nick Offerman,...

Josie, it turns out, is also celebrating her 45th birthday. They are, in fact, birthday twins.

A few days later, Alix and Josie bump into each other again,...

Image
NBA star Stephen Curry is often brought up in the conversation about GOATs — the greatest basketball players of all time.

Curry and his Unanimous Media co-founder Erick Peyton will produce the film alongside Academy Award nominee Michelle Raimo Kouyate, and Modern Magic’s Adam Rosenberg (“Creed 3”) and Academy Award winner Rodney Rothman (“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”).

Rotten Tomatoes Reveals Best-Reviewed Superhero Film Ever In List Of "300 Best Movies Of All Time"
Image
Rotten Tomatoes has shared an updated ranking of the "300 Best Movies of All Time" which they say are "reviewed and selected by Tomatometer-approved critics and Rotten Tomatoes users."

At #1? 1997's L.A. Confidential, a movie which has little to nothing in common with superheroes! However, comic book adaptations do factor into the list, with 11 in total making the cut.

According to the review aggregator, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the best superhero movie ever, coming in at #21. Released in 2018, the Sony Pictures title grossed $384.3 million and won a "Best Animated Feature" Oscar in 2019 (making it the first non-Disney/Pixar movie to do so since 2011).

Also included in the list are The Dark Knight (#51), Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (#81), Spider-Man: No Way Home (#128), Avengers: Endgame, (#142), Iron Man (#145), Black Panther (#225), Logan (#228), Guardians of the Galaxy (#254), Thor: Ragnarok (#274), and The Avengers (#286).

Needless to say, we're sure these selections will generate some discussion!

It's good...

The Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Soundtrack Just Made Music History
Image
The 2018 film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, was a boldly stylistic and striking foray into the flagging superhero genre, and featured a wild multi-dimensional story that brought multiple Spider-People (and a Spider-Pig) together from various threads in Marvel Comics canon. The main character was Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), although audiences also met a few versions of the original Spider-Man Peter Parker as well. Critics and audiences loved "Into the Spider-Verse," and the film would go on to win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

The 2023 sequel, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" resembled "The Matrix Reloaded" in many ways. It was twice as visually dazzling, and it was more narratively ambitious ... and it was only half of a movie. For being so much bigger, "Across" is ultimately the lesser movie. We'll have to wait to see if "Across the Spider-Verse" is good after we see "Beyond the Spider-Verse,...

Why Producers David Oyelowo, Jeremy Dawson and One ‘Spider-Verse’ Director Are Not Official Oscar Nominees
Image
It takes multiple hands of masters, artists and filmmakers to bring a story to life, no matter the cinematic medium. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has designated categories to recognize the achievements of artists working on animation, documentary features, and shorts, an opportunity to be rewarded. However, just because you directed or produced one of these specialty films doesn’t mean these contributions will be officially named in the Oscar nominations.

To the untrained Oscar eye, it might not be obvious that despite “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” picking up a nomination for best animated feature, one of the three directors, Joaquim Dos Santos, was not among the listed nominees. It’s an arbitrary rule of the Academy that only four “teams” may be recognized in the animated feature category.

The official nominees from “Spider-Verse” are Dos Santos’ fellow directors Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson, producing partners Phil Lord and Christopher Miller,...

21 Jump Street spin-off featuring Brie Larson’s character is in development at Sony
Image
It happens a lot when up-and-coming actors are featured in a franchise prior to their newfound star status. And when those actors strike it big, studios usually find a door to capitalize on it. Jennifer Lawrence was part of an ensemble when she starred in X-Men: First Class. After she became the face of The Hunger Games and an Oscar winner, naturally she became a bigger focus in the sequels X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse. In 2012, a fresh-faced Brie Larson co-starred in the comedy adaptation of 21 Jump Street as a high school student and love interest to star Jonah Hill.

According to ComingSoon.net, Sony is developing a spin-off of their 21 Jump Street franchise that is aiming to be bringing Larson back as her character, Molly Tracey. Larson has recently been seen as the gun-toting, Belgian Ale-drinking Tess in Fast X and will also be...

‘Let’s Go More Awesome': Inside the Making of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’
Image
In late 2018, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” quietly debuted. It featured a different version of the Spider-Man character, Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), a New York City whiz kid whose Spider-Man died tragically, forcing him to step into the iconic role (with some help from some other Spider-People from different dimensions). And it was rendered in an aggressively comic book-y style – this style was unlike anything that audiences had seen before and effectively bumped out the parameters of what we think of as Western animation.

It took chances in both the medium and the message. It made an impressive $384 million worldwide against a budget of $90 million. And it was awarded an Oscar for Best Animated Feature a few months later, marking the first non-Disney or Pixar movie that had been honored since Gore Verbinski’s “Rango.”

Now, five years later — and after Marvel Studios effectively aped the concept for their “Spider-Man: No Way Home...

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is looking like the very real deal, in the wake of so many mid superhero movies. To date, the Into the Spider-Verse sequel has a 95% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes, and most every review is loaded with superlatives.

But Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse came out so long ago (December 2018!), maybe you’d like a refresher before slinging yourself to the Cineplex to venture Across the Spider-Verse. Here is where and when you can rewatch (or enjoy for the very first time!) the Oscar-winning animated film.

Why Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Got Split Into Two Movies
Image
Breathe easy, Spider-fans. After 2018's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" came out of nowhere to shatter expectations and breathe new life into superhero movies, audiences anxiously waited to see if and when a sequel would be given the green light and, most importantly, if it could possibly live up to the standard set by the first animated movie. Well, those concerns seem to have been put to rest, if the reactions and reviews for "Across the Spider-Verse" are anything to go by. (You can read /Film's review by Chris Evangelista right here.)

But there's one common element that practically all the early reactions for the highly-anticipated "Spider-Man" movie have gone out of their way to note: it apparently ends on a rather significant cliffhanger. In contrast, "Into the Spider-Verse" told a very self-contained story that wrapped up to satisfaction in less than two hours. As it turns out, however, the filmmakers...

‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ Review: A Bedazzling Sequel, and the Rare Comic-Book Movie That Earns Its Convolutions
Image
Nearly every mainstream animated feature (and just about every comic-book movie too) sets a tone and visual design that the audience plugs into; the movie, bold and shiny and clever as it may be, won’t deviate much from that. But the images in “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” have an intoxicating unpredictability. The film makes you feel like you’re dropping through the floors of a modern art museum on acid. Yet there’s a thrilling moment-to-moment logic to it all. The madly eclectic images express something — an eyeball-tickling explosion of quantum physics, or a subliminal nod to some comic-book style from decades ago that’s so retro it’s new, not to mention bedazzling. This feels like it could have been the first movie designed to earn a thumbs up from Andy Warhol and Stephen Hawking.

Or maybe the second, since “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” was like that too.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse review – crazily frantic sequel with full-spin energy
Phil Lord
The brilliance of the kaleidoscopic, animated Spider-Verse erupts again in this multidimensional film about a teen superhero with exasperated parents

In 2018, writers Phil Lord and Rodney Rothman gave us a delirious and utterly unexpected new web-spin on the infinite self-replication of Marvel Comics IP and its most reliable hero, Spider-Man. Instead of yet another MCU live action version, directed and produced in that hard, depthless CGI light, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a brilliantly inventive animated fantasia about the Spidey mythology, riffing on movies and comic books. The Spider-Verse was a cosmos in which different Spider-folk existed in parallel: a multiverse at least as interesting as that of Dr Strange, and more interesting than the solemn awards-prestige of Everything Everywhere All at Once. Everyone who saw it wondered how this kaleidoscopic new take could be applied elsewhere: James Bond: Across the James-Bond-Verse, or Bilbo Baggins: Beyond the Bilbo-Baggins-Verse.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Was Met With A Lot Of Doubt From Studio Executives
Image
There isn't a superhero who's captured the hearts and aspirations of comic book readers more fervently than Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's Spider-Man. Ever since the character's introduction 61 years ago in the fifteenth issue of Marvel Comics' "Amazing Fantasy," the web-slinger has hooked 'em young with the universal origin story of Peter Parker, a nerdy teenager transformed by a radioactive arachnid (and the preventable murder of his Uncle Ben) into a quip-happy, crime-fighting dynamo. Every kid can relate to Parker's journey, and, as we grow older, our inner-child's fondness for the wall-crawler only deepens.

Though Spider-Man belongs to all of us, the character's massive popularity left open the possibility of an iteration that directly appealed to non-white fans. Finally, in 2011 (40 years after DC introduced the Black character John Stewart as a new member of the Green Lantern Corps), Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli thrust Miles Morales, a...
