"Monk" is part one of a two-part portrait of the great pianist and composer, made by brothers and co-directors Michael and Christian Blackwood. The film captures the deeply talented Thelonious Monk as he sits stone-faced on his throne, his legs askew and his feet alive with rhythm, while his heavy, ring laden fingers hammer the keys, making his piano sing with a breathtaking fervor.

The second installment in an intimate portrait of Thelonious Monk follows the legendary jazz pianist and composer with his quartet on their European tour. Joined by musicians Ray Copeland, Clark Terry, Phil Woods, Jimmy Cleveland and Johnny Griffin they travel as part of George Weins Newport Jazz Festival road company to London, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Berlin, Mainz, and Rotterdam.
