Plot: A shitstorm of bad news sends out of work filmmaker Jimmy spiraling into an out of control bender in which he claims to have been abducted by aliens. Fearing they’ll come back, he contacts his old friend Stiggs to help him gear up for war.
Review: If there’s one horror movie I’ve been looking forward to all year, practically causing me to bounce with excitement, it’s Jimmy and Stiggs. Joe Begos‘ latest has always promised to be a splatterfest of epic proportions and, with Eli Roth’s Horror Section Studios acquiring it, all signs pointed towards a potential cult classic. And I’m happy to say that it’s everything you would expect from it and more, providing an absolute cacophony of chaos. I loved every minute of it.

Based on the novel by the same name, Netflix’s Night Always Comes (2025) is a peek into urban desolation and destitution, in the guise of a time-ticking thriller. However, this Benjamin Caron directorial fails to navigate the labyrinthine plot events that its frazzled lead character spirals down to. It too becomes frazzled and disoriented. Vanessa Kirby, the co-producer of the film, leads a mostly sincere cast. Her Lynette, along with Zack Gottsagen’s Kenny (Lynette’s brother), forms the heart of the story, which features Lynette’s nocturnal quest to raise $25000.
Night Always Comes (2025) ‘Netflix’ Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
The story starts with Lynette (Kirby) arranging $25000 to purchase the house her family is renting. Her family includes her brother, Kenny (Gottsagen), and her mother, Doreen (Jennifer Jason Leigh). Kenny has Down syndrome, and he is struggling to secure a job. Lynette does two jobs to keep the family afloat. She...

Eli Roth has spent decades in the entertainment industry, but he’s still chasing the high of telling his schoolyard friends about the wild new movie he just saw.
“If someone had given me this tape in seventh grade and I watched it, would I be running around telling all my friends, ‘We gotta watch this again right now’?” he says. “”You’re coming over after school’ and I’m gonna watch their reaction watching it. On a very basic level, that is still how I gauge these movies. Is this something that I want to call Quentin [Tarantino] and go, ‘Dude, dude, dude, you gotta see this’?”
That mindset is the impetus behind The Horror Section, Roth’s new scary movie company. Earlier this year, the organization made headlines when Roth offered regular fans a chance to invest. Nearly 2,500 people joined during the March launch period, pledging anywhere from $100 to $1 million.

What would you do if you only had several hours left to come up with a large sum of money? That money in question is urgently needed to buy the house or face eviction. Such a dilemma happens to poor Lynette (Vanessa Kirby), who is already struggling to make ends meet working two dead-end jobs. Right from the start, the background voice of news reports plays over the opening credits as we learn everything from the downward spiral of wages to the housing crisis, mirroring Lynette’s current scenario.
The loan company has been chasing her early in the morning with a phone call for outstanding payments. A new crime thriller from Netflix has been well-received on Rotten Tomatoes. The streaming service, which is one of the biggest in the world, features a library of licensed movie and television titles, but they are best known for their original projects, which include massive hits such as Squid Game, Stranger Things, and the 2025 smash KPop Demon Hunters.
Because they produce releases in a wide variety of genres, there have been a number of major Netflix thrillers in the crime genre. While some have not been well-reviewed on Rotten Tomatoes, such as Pain Hustlers (23%) and Reptile (44%), others have been better-received, including The Irishman (95%), El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (92%), and their newest outing.

There is a particular flavor of modern anxiety born from the quiet hum of a refrigerator and the silent dread of a rent check. It is the awareness that the floor beneath our feet is not solid ground but a trapdoor, one bad day away from swinging open. Night Always Comes weaponizes this feeling, turning the widespread condition of economic precarity into a brutalist, street-level thriller.
The film introduces us to Lynette, a woman whose singular, almost holy, ambition is to buy the rundown Portland house she grew up in. This is not a quest for upward mobility; it is a desperate bid for stasis, a chance to secure a sliver of permanence for herself and her older, developmentally disabled brother, Kenny.
The trapdoor swings open early. The plan hinges on her flaky mother, Doreen, who not only fails to show up for the loan signing but reappears having spent...

Joe Begos (Chirstmas Bloody Christmas) is back with another neon-drenched, ultra gory slice of 16mm madness in Jimmy & Stiggs. Since his 2019 festival hit Bliss, Begos has been working exclusively on film and it’s really helped make his work stand out, assuming the nonstop parade of gooey exploding heads, killer robot Santas, and dive bar lighting didn’t already set him apart. Jimmy & Stiggs is a real indie achievement, starring Begos himself in the lead role, and featuring enough dayglo orange alien blood to repaint your entire apartment. It’s a non-stop heavy metal head trip and easily one of the most insane movies of the year. A real solid pick for Eli Roth to kickstart his brand-new independent studio The Horror Section, which is bringing the mayhem to cinemas this weekend.

It is a given among the comfortable that most crime happens because there are bad people. It’s a certainty among the disadvantaged, however, that some crime happens because those without financial safety nets often lack other options. That’s a running theme in Willy Vlautin’s novels, two of which have already been adapted as movies. Now there’s “Night Always Comes,” with producer Vanessa Kirby as a hard-luck case in Portland, Ore., who’s driven to unlawful acts over several hours’ course in a last-ditch effort to save her home. It’s a compelling tale of increasingly hazardous desperation, even if the star and her fellow-Brit director Benjamin Caron (oth veterans of royalty drama series “The Crown) aren’t necessarily an ideal fit for this very American, down-and-out milieu.
Thirtysomething Lynette (Kirby) gets woken at 5 a.m. by yet another call from a loan company, threatening consequences for late payments.

Set over the course of a single harrowing night and driven by a performance from Vanessa Kirby bristling with raw nervous energy, hunger and searing inner conflict, Netflix’s Night Always Comes is more compelling than the average original streaming movie even if it could use an extra shot of emotional power. Adapted from the well-received novel by Willy Vlautin, the gritty neo-noir is high on atmosphere. But it’s more attentive to the protagonist’s spiraling desperation than the canvas of an ever-gentrifying America’s unforgiving economic climate, diluting the social context of the book.
Reuniting with Benjamin Caron, one of her directors on The Crown, Kirby plays Lynette, who lives in her dilapidated childhood home in Portland with her developmentally disabled older brother Kenny (Zack Gottsagen) and their flaky mother Doreen (Jennifer Jason Leigh), who works for a grocery store chain. Their father took off some time back.

Vanessa Kirby may be battling Galactus on the big screen in the MCU’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but she’s facing an entirely different threat in the Netflix thriller Night Always Comes. It’s an admittedly smaller threat (though what isn’t smaller than Galactus?), but in the eyes of Lynette, the peril is equally world-ending. Adapted from the 2021 novel by author Willy Vlautin, Night Always Comes is a dark and difficult journey featuring a spectacular cast and razor-sharp direction from Benjamin Caron.
Night Always Comes plot
Acting as the primary caretaker of her older brother, Kenny, Lynette is faced with the dark mistakes of her questionable past. When the house she shares with Kenny is at risk of being taken away for lack of payment, she finds herself faced with a desperate decision. With only one night to secure the money to keep her home, Lynette finds...

After creating the Thanksgiving faux trailer for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse back in 2007, Eli Roth wanted to make an entire feature out of faux trailers, a project he called Trailer Trash. Trailers he teased for that included Nascar Dog, Bear Witness, and Farmageddon, plus collaborations with Edgar Wright, Robert Rodriguez, Peter Berg, Howard Stern, and Greg Nicotero, among others. Sadly, Trailer Trash never happened – but we did get a Thanksgiving movie eventually, and now it looks like Roth has found a roundabout way to make his Trailer Trash dreams come true. Last week, he released a faux trailer called The Piano Killer, which will be playing in theatres with the bonkers splatterfest Jimmy and Stiggs. Now, he has released another faux trailer! This one is called Don’t Go in That House, Bitch! and will also be attached to Jimmy and Stiggs in theatres. You can...

Eli Roth’s new company The Horror Section has been paving the road to the release of their first movie Jimmy and Stiggs in theaters on August 15 with a couple faux horror movie trailers, the first of which was The Piano Killer last week. This week, Eli Roth has enlisted the help of Snoop Dogg for Don’t Go in That House, Bitch, which is now available online.
Once again, this is a trailer for a fake movie that’ll probably never actually get made, with Eli Roth channeling the same idea behind the faux trailers that played as part of Grindhouse back in 2007. Of course, several of those fake trailers actually did end up becoming real movies, with Roth’s own fake slasher Thanksgiving finally becoming a real feature film back in 2023.

Rob Zombie has said that for every one film project of his that moves forward, there are five potential projects that fall by the wayside. We haven’t heard of quite that many unmade Rob Zombie movies, but we have heard of several over the years that never got off the ground… and unfortunately, most of them sounded pretty interesting. A little over a year ago, Zombie had said he didn’t know what his next movie is going to be, but he did know what it’s not going to be: he won’t be continuing his Firefly franchise, and he doesn’t want to make a sequel to The Munsters (which was poorly received). So while he figures out his next cinematic move, we we have put together a list of Rob Zombie Movies We Want To See!

Executive produced by Eli Roth (Thanksgiving) and directed by Joe Begos (Christmas Bloody Christmas), Jimmy and Stiggs is, like the director’s past work, a low-budget, high-concept blend of action and horror. However, Begos fails to strike an effective balance between scrappy and entertaining, resulting in a picture that doesn’t live up to its potential.
Jimmy and Stiggs Review
Jimmy and Stiggs follows a conspiracy theorist who begins a doom spiral after becoming convinced that he has been abducted by aliens, enlisting the help of his best friend to fight them off. Basically one long action sequence, how much audiences connect to Begos’s latest film will depend on how willing they are to buy into its zany wavelength.

Vanessa Kirbyis riding high on the success of Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which marks her entry in the MCU as the superhero with a strong maternal instinct, Sue Storm. Earlier this year, Roth launched a company called The Horror Section with plans to produce all things horror, including movies, TV shows, games, podcasts, and more. The Horror Section picked up the distribution rights to writer/director Joe Begos’s Jimmy and Stiggs and is teaming up with Iconic Events to give the film a wide theatrical release on August 15th (with Roth’s faux trailer The Piano Killer attached to it). It’s called The Piano Killer and it will be playing in theatres with the bonkers splatterfest Jimmy and Stiggs, but you can watch it right now in the embed above.
Note that the faux trailer for The Piano Killer ends with the promise that the film is coming in 2042, a nod to the fact that it took seventeen years for the Thanksgiving movie to get made.

Eli Roth is channeling his Grindhouse past with The Piano Killer, a new trailer for his horror studio The Horror Section that will be playing in theaters nationwide starting August 15, attached to the first theatrical release from Roth’s new company, Jimmy and Stiggs.
The team previews, “The Piano Killer trailer offers a first taste of the twisted, genre-smashing direction Eli Roth is taking with The Horror Section. Created alongside longtime collaborator Jeff Rendell (Thanksgiving), the trailer follows in the footsteps of their original Thanksgiving teaser, which famously morphed into a cult-favorite feature.
“What starts as an ordinary opening moment, turns into total mayhem…when the mystery killer turns out to be a piano. It’s absurd. It’s terrifying. And it’s exactly the kind of audacious, offbeat horror that defines The Horror Section.”
For now, it’s just a fake trailer for a Dario Argento-style Giallo movie about a killer piano.

Nearly two decades ago, Eli Roth teased the world with a slasher flick centered around Turkey Day and, several years later, that movie served up a feature-sized production through Thanksgiving. Now, the celebrated filmmaker is in the trailer business again with the latest short-form project to come out under his new banner, The Horror Section. Titled The Piano Killer, the short but sweet project, which Roth created alongside his longtime collaborator, Jeff Rendell (Thanksgiving), gives fans yet another imaginative bit of content that could easily make its way into a longer format in the future. Ahead of the full trailer’s arrival in cinemas beginning on August 15 as part of the preshow entertainment prior to Joe Begos’ Jimmy & Stiggs, Collider is excited to give audiences a taste of the perfectly tuned brutality to come.

An Oxford-set college rom-com from the guy behind The Inbetweeners; the return of one of Netflix’s biggest ever shows; Genndy Tartakovsky’s latest adult animated project; Vanessa Kirby’s return to more intimate dramas about the human condition; a documentary that promised to shed new light on the Jussie Smollett hate crime incident; and a murder mystery film featuring several British and Irish acting icons are some of the highlights among the new films and series hitting Netflix in August.
Kicking off August is the rom-com My Oxford Year, which focuses on the tried and trusted formula of a young American girl heading to stuffy old Europe and finding love with some impossibly handsome and terribly charming guy, so it’s almost guaranteed to find a huge audience. Two years ago, Eli Roth said that he was interested in returning to the Hostel and Cabin Fever franchises – and within six months of him saying that, we learned that a Hostel TV series was in the works, with Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers) attached to star in the show. It was said that the series would be coming our way from Fifth Season, the studio behind Apple’s Severance, with Roth, Chris Briggs, and Mike Fleiss on board as executive producers. Roth and Briggs are also writing the project, which Roth will be directing, the aim being to reinvent the franchise as an “elevated thriller.” Now, a year later, Variety reports that the Hostel TV series has found a home at the Peacock streaming service!

Fans of the horror genre, Eli Roth and Paul Giamatti have a reason to celebrate today. While that trio may not appear to go together on paper, it's going to potentially lead to seeing one of Roth's more high-profile releases getting to continue its brand of traveling overseas torture on the Peacock streaming service.
Per Variety, the HostelTV series is officially being developed at Peacock, with Paul Giamatti attached to star. The project was first announced in 2024 with Giamatti's involvement, but it had yet to find a home. Roth will write, direct, and executive produce the series, while Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss, who have been involved since the original 2005 film, will both serve as executive producers on the project. While plot details are unknown, it will likely continue the franchise's tendency to make audiences fear being hunted as tourists in a foreign land.

Twenty years after the first film launched the controversial torture porn franchise, a series adaptation of Hostel horror is moving forward and has landed a streaming home. The movie was written and directed by Eli Roth, and followed American tourists in Slovakia, kidnapped by a mysterious group that allows wealthy elites to torture and murder people for money.
Despite the controversy surrounding its graphic violence and gore, the movie was a box office success, spawning two sequels, a follow-up written and directed by Roth, and a direct-to-video third movie, which Roth was not involved with. Roth had previously revealed his intent to develop further Hostel movies, though this looks to be going on a different path.

Eli Roth’s “Hostel” TV series has landed at Peacock for development, TheWrap has learned.
The NBCUniversal-owned streamer will develop the TV adaptation of the horror franchise with Paul Giamatti attached to star. The project hails from Roth, who directed and wrote the first two “Hostel” movies, as well as “Hostel” producers Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss.
Produced by “Severance” producer Fifth Season, the “Hostel” TV series is billed as a modern “reinvention” of the horror franchise, which kicked off with the 2006 movie. The original film centered on a group of American tourists whose trip to Slovakia turns upside down when they are taken individually by an organization that allows people to torture and kill others.
The news comes over a year after the project was reported to be in the works from Roth, Briggs, Fleiss and Fifth Season, with Roth intended to direct the TV show and write the script.

Peacock is offering a place to stay for a Hostel series project from filmmaker Eli Roth and star Paul Giamatti.
The NBCUniversal streamer will develop the project, which is based on Roth’s mid-2000s horror movies about an underground network of wealthy people who kidnap and torture young tourists staying in hostels. The show, which THR reported was in the works in 2024 (but without a home), comes from Fifth Season.
Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Giamatti, an avowed horror fan, is set to star in the show, though details of his role are being kept under wraps. The Hostel series project is described as a present-day take on the concept.
Roth, who wrote and directed 2005’s Hostel and 2007’s Hostel: Part II, is set to write, direct and executive produce the Peacock project. The films’ producers, Mike Fleiss and Chris Briggs, are also EPs. (A third Hostel film, made without Roth’s involvement,...

It was reported last year that fans would be returning to the most frightening guest house with a television adaptation of Hostel, adapted from the popular horror film franchise of the same name, and we now have a major update on that front. The series has landed at Peacock for development and is currently being fast-tracked for production, according to Variety. Plot details remain slim, but the show does have a recent Oscar nominee attached.

In an unprecedented move, New York-based Fangoria Studios is attending the Sanfic Morbido Lab for possible co-production opportunities.
“Horror is a universal language that transcends cultural boundaries, making it the perfect foundation for this partnership. There’s no better way to mark Fangoria coming onboard with Morbido than by celebrating Latin American horror that has captivated global audiences,” said Fangoria Studios’ Armen Aghaeian, senior VP of TV + Film, adding: “After all, everyone screams in the same language.”
Now marking its 6th edition at Chile’s prominent Santiago Int’l Film Festival (Sanfic), the lab has lured the likes of Julio Hernandez Cordon this year, best known for his award-winning pics “I Promise You, Anarchy,” “Marimbas from Hell” and “Gasoline.” This time he’s pitching “Cloudspotting” (“Enviame tormentas”), a co-production between Diana Bustamante’s Burning in Colombia and Mexico’s newly launched Somos Maravillosa, led by producers María José Córdova and Triana García Simón.

Whether it's critically acclaimed classics like Die Hardand Pulp Fictionor easy-viewing action flicks like 2022's Gasoline Alley, Bruce Willisand his iconic filmography will always prove popular, especially in light of his illness-induced retirement three years ago. From the latter category, another of Willis' testosterone-fueled action thrillers has found success in 2025, becoming one of the ten most-streamed titles on MGM+ in the U.S., as of July 21, 2025, per FlixPatrol.
That movie is Death Wish, a 2018 remake of the 1974 film of the same name, following Willis' Dr. Paul Kersey as he vows to take revenge on the perpetrators of a horrific crime that left his wife and young daughter the victims of a brutal attack. Also starring Vincent D'Onofrio, Greyhound's Elisabeth Shue, and Law & Order: Organized Crime's Dean Norris, the movie was helmed by Eli Roth, six years before he would bring the disastrous adaptation of Borderlands to the big screen.

MGM+ subscribers cannot get enough of an overlooked action remake starring Bruce Willis. Death Wish, a modern-day remake of the classic Charles Bronson-led action flick, has begun climbing the Top 10 chart on the streaming service.
According to FlixPatrol, as of July 24, Death Wish is ranked No. 8 on MGM+'s Top 10 chart, up one spot from the day before. Vanessa Kirby is on top of the world, doing one massive project after another! From Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning to The Fantastic Four: First Steps, her star power shows no signs of slowing down. After silencing her critics by working on her first superhero film with Marvel, she is not looking to slow things down. The About Time actress has now collaborated with Netflix for her next project, Night Always Comes.
The film’s trailer looks gripping, as Kirby’s character fights for survival and lives a normal life. However, it is easier said than done because the visceral thriller will push her to the edge, taking every necessary action to protect her spot, making every necessary sacrifice.
The Cast and Plot of Night Always Comes
When Netflix decided to drop the trailer of Night Always Comes, the crime thriller connoisseurs were taken aback seeing Vanessa Kirby playing such a gripping character.
