    Excellent swing and jazz pianist some of whose best performances were with Harry James in the mid-1940's and in 1946 with Charlie Parker and Lester Young during a live recording session of Jazz at the Philharmonic. Ross was one of the pioneers of bebop on the west coast. In the 1950s, he was at one time musical director for Lena Horne and also worked as pianist/arranger, notably with Nelson Riddle.
