The holidays are winding down and that means we at Ioncinema.com are gearing up for our annual pilgrimage to Park City where an A-list of documentaries is now set to premiere. Earlier this month Tabitha Jackson and the Sundance doc programming team let the cats out of the bag, unsurprisingly announcing much anticipated Us Doc Competition titles such as the Ross Brothers’ Western, Louie Psihoyos’ Racing Extinction, Marc Silver’s 3 1/2 Minutes and Lyric Cabral and David Felix Sutcliffe’s (T)Error, along with some surprises like Bryan Carberry and Clay Tweel’s bizarro Kickstarted doc Finders Keepers (see trailer below). Having been produced by the fine folks behind The King of Kong and Undefeated, the film bears all the markings of its well regarded pedigree, yet appears to be of even odder ilk, following the story that unfolded when a severed human foot was discovered in a grill bought at a North Carolina auction.

More so than any other summer in recent memory, this year great documentaries are flooding through the marketplace at a rapid clip, whether on TV (HBO will host Sundance faves "Smash His Camera," "Gasland" and "A Small Act" in the weeks ahead), online (the always reliable SnagFilms.com) or in theaters ("Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work," Aj Schnack's "Convention" and Oliver Stone's "South of the Border" before the end of June). With that in mind, we'd like to take the chance to shine a light on some of the best nonfiction films being released over the next month in this summer weekly column.

Certainly, that's true of "45365," the feature debut from Bill and Turner Ross, which took a circuitous route around the festival circuit (where it earned prizes at SXSW and Full Frame) before premiering online last summer on Hulu for a week and eventually winning this...

With a new film from Sally Potter arriving online and John Boorman and Peter Greenaway's latest work exclusively hitting DVD shelves, enjoying a night at the movies no longer necessarily means at your local theater (though we've got the lowdown of what's playing there as well). From August to October, one doesn't need to move from the couch to see a Val Kilmer double bill, a James Franco-Sienna Miller romantic comedy and the last performance from the late, great Natasha Richardson, not to mention Robert Pattinson and Jet Li imports and a host of foreign films and documentaries well worth your time on demand, online and on DVD.
