The Most Controversial MCU Costumes Of All Time
Image
Ever since the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicked off with 2008's "Iron Man," fans around the world have delighted at seeing some of their favorite comic book characters share the screen with one another in an ever-expanding world. For the most part, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige and the countless writers, directors, actors, and others who've helped shape the MCU have delivered wildly entertaining shows and movies while also staying true to what made the source material so captivating. From classic plotlines to iconic panels to lesser-known characters, the McU's creators have done a stellar job of transposing some of the most beloved elements from the comic books to both the big and small screen.

Still, because of how different comics are from television and film, numerous changes have been made to adapt these larger-than-life characters to a live action medium. Some of these decisions make sense; what may work on...

‘The Tutor’ Characters Ethan & Jackson, Explained: What Happens To Them In The End?
Image
Directed by Jordan Ross, The Tutor has some good moments when it tries to be a mystery thriller. Where it falters is when it uses silly plot devices that don’t seem entirely justified. I don’t blame the performances, because it is self-evident that the editing let them down. One emotional state jarringly changing to another doesn’t do justice to what Garrett Hedlund and Noah Schnapp, the two lead actors, were going for with their characters. The plot revolves around a tutor named Ethan. He often teaches wealthy kids and has apparently become famous because of his teaching skills. One fine day, he gets a tutoring gig, which would pay him a huge sum. He takes it, as his girlfriend is about to have a baby and he wants to be a provider, but soon he discovers that the boy he is tutoring has ulterior motives of his own,...

‘The Tutor’ (2023) Ending, Explained: Did Jackson Get His Justice?
Image
Conventional thrillers that depend on twist endings to captivate viewers generally leave a trail of breadcrumbs along the narrative progression, which plays with the audience’s negligence and later creates a cohesive roadmap, making sense of the causality. Unsatisfying thrillers tend to fall into the trap of taking an abrupt U-turn to suit the plot, which doesn’t only take away the conviction factor but also ruins all the build-up as well. Unfortunately, “The Tutor,” directed by Jordan Ross, falls into the second category. In addition to the poorly crafted twist that leaves a bad aftertaste, a character bluntly stating out loud the message the movie wants to convey really takes the cake. We would also like to add the fact that the title of the movie has little to no significance to the larger narrative, which is a bit surprising given how much literary terminology was tossed around in...

The Class Critique at the Heart of ‘The Tutor’ Starring Noah Schnapp [Sex Crimes]
Image
Judging from the marketing of The Tutor, you’d be forgiven for mistaking the film for a contemporary queer update of a film like The Crush (1993). While not exclusively the purview of the 90s, a film like The Crush – in which an underage “sexpot” with a malicious streak ensnares an older man in her web of sexual intrigue – prospered in the era of Erotic Thrillers, Dtv and Vcrs.

Films in which adults are tempted into sexual relationships with minors are considered taboo for mainstream contemporary audiences. This is why the marketing of The Tutor was intriguing: the trailer suggests that rich, privileged teen Jackson (Stranger Things’ Noah Schnapp) unfairly accuses his working class tutor Ethan (Garrett Hedlund) of improper behaviour. The young man then begins to stalk and effectively ruin the life of the older man, jeopardizing his reputation and the status of his relationship with pregnant girlfriend, Annie (Victoria Justice...

Garrett Hedlund, Noah Schnapp & Victoria Justice Talk The Tutor
Image
Directed by Jordan Ross and written by Ryan King, The Tutor hits theaters on Friday, March 24. The thriller follows a well-sought-after tutor named Ethan, who is asked to travel to New York and work with a billionaire's son. With a baby on the way and a family to provide for, Ethan jumps at the high-paying opportunity. However, the role turns out to be much more than he bargained for when the student-teacher relationship spirals into obsession.

The Tutor stars Garrett Hedlund as Ethan, Victoria Justice as Annie, and Noah Schnapp as Jackson. Hedlund has been featured in films such as Tron and Dreamland and recently portrayed Mitch Keller in the Paramount+ original series, Tulsa King. After getting her start on Nickelodeon, Justice has worked on several projects including A Perfect Pairing and Eye Candy. Meanwhile, Schnapp is most well-known for his role as Will Byers in Netflix's Stranger Things.

Most Popular Oscar May Not Be So Popular: Rob Lowe Tweets, “Film Business Passed Away Today”
Rob Lowe in The Grinder (2015)
Refresh for updates A new Oscar category for “popular” films doesn’t seem very popular in Hollywood, at least judging by first reactions. “The film business passed away today,” began Rob Lowe’s tweet (read below for the whole thing).

Lowe, of course, had his own Oscar low moment, during his musical number with Snow White in the critically lambasted Allan Carr produced telecast.

“Finally,” wrote Andy Richter, “the Oscars will be giving a statue based on popularity so that those poor mountains of box office money won’t be lonely anymore.”

The new award category, announced today, will honor outstanding achievement in popular film, with eligibility requirements and other key details yet to be announced.

But Hollywood stars and pundits weren’t waiting. Here’s a sampling (we’ll update periodically):

Better than a sequel, now that the Academy has added the section for ‘Overlooked Nineties Cult Movies...

Mpse Awards 2018: ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ and ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Take Top Sound Editing Awards
It was a clear victory for sci-fi sound editing Sunday night at the 65th annual Mpse Golden Reel Awards at the Westin Bonaventure. “War for the Planet of the Apes” was the surprise winner for Dialogue/Adr, splitting honors with “Blade Runner 2049,” which grabbed the Effects/Foley prize. The big loser was “Dunkirk” (which won the BAFTA sound award earlier Sunday). However, Christopher Nolan’s World War II survival epic took home the Music Score award and remains the sound editing Oscar favorite.

In addition, “The Greatest Showman,” “Coco,” “Loveless,” and “Jane” earned sound editing awards for Musical, Animation, Foreign Language, and Documentary. The big TV winner was “Game of Thrones” (“The Spoils of War”) for Dialogue/Adr and Effects/Foley. Other TV honorees included “Black Mirror” (“USS Callister”) for Episodic Long Form Dialogue/Adr; “Godless” (“Homecoming”) and “Ozark” (“The Toll”) for Episodic Long Form Effects/Foley; “The Get...

Eliza Taylor Stars in First Trailer for Teen Crime Thriller Film 'Thumper'
"Do you trust her?" The Orchard has debuted an official trailer for an indie crime thriller titled Thumper, from writer/director Jordan Ross. This stars Eliza Taylor (seen on "The 100") as a new student at a drug-ridden high school in an impoverished California town. She befriends a local drug dealer, but ends up way too deep in the local drug ring. The cast includes Daniel Webber, Pablo Schreiber, Lena Headey, Ben Feldman, and Brigitte Kali. This premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival but didn't emerge with much buzz. There's some impressive cinematography in this trailer, but the rest of it seems like another typical small-town crime thriller, once again about teens caught up in the craziness unable to escape. Check it out. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Jordan Ross' Thumper, direct from YouTube: Troubled new girl Kat Carter (Eliza Taylor) struggles to fit in with her...

Pablo Schreiber and Eliza Taylor in Thumper (2017)
Pablo Schreiber has played morally questionable characters on American Gods and Orange Is the New Black, but you've never seen him quite like this. In Thumper, he plays a ruthless drug dealer who rules over a low income neighborhood and Et has the movie's official poster, with Schreiber front and center.

"I'm really interested in the extremes of human behavior. Characters that behave in ways that I don't agree with or can't really get behind," he told Et of what drew him to the film. "The process for me is trying to understand what drives that...and, in doing so, it's practicing a form of empathy and trying to understand people from very different circumstances."

Pablo Schreiber and Eliza Taylor in Thumper (2017)
Distributor plans 2017 release for Tribeca premiere.

The Orchard has picked up all North American rights to Jordan Ross’s directorial debut Thumper starring Pablo Schreiber from Orange Is The New Black.

The crime thriller debuted at Tribeca and also stars Eliza Taylor, Lena Headey, Ben Feldman, Grant Harvey and Daniel Webber.

Thumper takes place in an impoverished town where a group of teens are made to work for a drug dealer as a girl with a secret arrives.

Fernando Loureiro and Roberto Vasconcellos produced the film for Exhibit, and Cary Fukunaga served as executive producer with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Rian Cahill for Automatik.

The Orchard negotiated the deal with UTA Independent Film Group and plans to release Thumper later this year.

“Thumper is a movie so real, so authentic in its direction and performances, we were floored this was Jordan’s directorial debut,” Paul Davidson, The Orchard’s executive vice-president of film and television, said.

'Thumper': Film Review | Tribeca 2017
Pablo Schreiber and Eliza Taylor in Thumper (2017)
Jordan Ross’ debut feature Thumper proves timely in its depiction of an economically ravaged suburban California community whose young people have increasingly turned to drugs. Unfortunately, the film, receiving its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, turns out to be a routine crime-driven tale featuring all-too familiar characters and situations. The hand of executive producer Cary Fukunaga (True Detective, Beasts of No Nation) is evident in the gritty, atmospheric tension permeating the proceedings, but Thumper fails to overcome its numerous clichés.

The storyline revolves around Kat (Eliza Taylor), a new student at a high school in a town that’s...

Review — ‘Thumper’ is an Unmissable and Taut Crime Thriller
‘Thumper’ is an Unmissable and Taut Crime ThrillerBambi is nowhere to be found in this story riddled with poverty, meth and violence.

Thumper opens with a bit of misdirection. We’re drawn into the chaotic and clustered home life of Wyatt (Pablo Schreiber), a charismatic, larger than life figure whom we soon learn looms large in the poverty-stricken, unnamed California neighborhood. With a child on one hip, Wyatt scrambles through empty kitchen cabinets, trying to salvage together breakfast for his two children. The house is messy, littered with toys and mismatched furniture, but Wyatt is the perfect picture of a doting father, showering both children with genuine affection that belies his tattooed shaved head.

But once his children have shuffled off with their mother, we see a different side of Wyatt. When Troy (Grant Harvey) comes into the house, unexpectedly bringing along Beaver (Daniel Webber), Wyatt is outraged and starts menacing the two teenagers. Eventually...

Taylor Swift at an event for 2019 Golden Globe Awards (2019)
People Are Not Happy With Taylor Swift's Tweet About the Women's March
Taylor Swift at an event for 2019 Golden Globe Awards (2019)
Over the past few years, Taylor Swift has meticulously built her empire around one notion: girl power. The "Bad Blood" singer has carefully maintained a large group of female friends (her "squad"), spoken at length about her feminist renaissance, and preached on a number of occasions about the importance of not tearing other women down, despite her highly-publicized feud with another female pop star suggesting otherwise. Everyone from Demi Lovato to Rowan Blanchard has called out Taylor for her "false feminism", saying that she's all talk when it comes to women's rights, criticisms that resurfaced this weekend. On Saturday, Taylor tweeted a heartfelt message about the Women's March, which was attended by over two million men and women (including fellow singers like Katy Perry, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Madonna, and Ariana Grande). It appears that Taylor did not march. So much love, pride, and respect for those who marched. I'm proud to be a woman today,...

That film, a modern re-imagining of "Dangerous Liasons," followed the beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar), her stepbrother Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe) and the sweet virgin Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon) who becomes the subject of a wager between the two.

In the series, the now older Kathryn vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey, Sebastian and Annette's son. Upon discovering his late father's legacy in a journal, the son is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined.

The original film's writer-director Roger Kumble and producer Neal H. Moritz return for the series which is also being produced by Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross who are behind a recent musical parody of the film which saw...

A "Friday Night Lights" Musical Is Coming
Are you ready for the Tim Riggins kick line?

The team behind "Cruel Intentions: The Musical" and "The Unauthorized O.C. Musical" have announced plans for the same treatment to be given to beloved TV modern classic "Friday Night Lights".

"The Unauthorized 'Friday Night Lights' Musical" is set for a premiere next year and one of the show's original stars, Scott Porter, has signed on to play a role.

Porter played Jason Street in the series, but in the musical he'll take on the role of Coach Taylor whom Kyle Chandler played in the NBC & DirecTV series. Also onboard from two of the previous musicals is Molly McCook who plays high school student Tyra.

Lindsey Rosin, one of the co-creators of the musical, says she and her producing partner Jordan Ross recently got the legal go-ahead to proceed. Further details about the run have yet to be announced.

There’s a Friday Night Lights Stage Musical Coming in 2016
Friday Night Lights is one of my favorite TV dramas ever, and I’ve been hoping that we’d get a movie made. I seriously doubt that’s ever going to happen at this point. You know what is happening, though!? The Unauthorized Friday Night Lights Musical!

This is a stage musical that is being created by writers Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin, who also created The Unauthorized Musical Parody Of Cruel Intentions and The Unauthorized O.C. Musical.

They made the announcement on Twitter saying that it will be coming to Los Angeles in 2016. This will be a one-night affair and Scott Porter, who played Jason Street in the TV series, will be playing Coach Taylor in the musical, which I have to admit is pretty damn awesome.

I think I’ll actually make an effort to get tickets to this thing! It sounds like it will be fun.

'Friday Night Lights' Is Becoming a Musical, With Familiar Face as Coach
Let's all sing it together: Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose. Especially when someone is making a "Friday Night Lights" musical.

"The Unauthorized Friday Night Lights Musical" is set to premiere in late spring or early summer in Los Angeles, and comes from Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin, the same people behind musical versions of "The O.C." and "Cruel Intentions." The latter got so much buzz that Ross and Rosin landed a deal at NBC to develop a "Cruel Intentions" sequel for television.

The original "Friday Night Lights" ran for five seasons, first on NBC and then on DirecTV, and starred Kyle Chandler as Coach Eric Taylor and Connie Britton as his wife, Tami Taylor. While the show was lowly-rated on air, it's become a beloved classic thanks to streaming services. And it helped launch the careers of many of its young cast members.

But the best part of...

The 'Cruel Intentions' Saga Will Continue In A TV Series
If the fate of Sebastian Valmont and Annette Hargrove's child was still bothering you sixteen years after the release of "Cruel Intentions," good news. There's going to be new TV show focused on just that very story. Deadline reports that the film's original writer Roger Kumble (who directed the straight to video "Cruel Intentions 2," and lots of TV) is teaming up with Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross ("The Unauthorized Musical Parody Of Cruel Intentions" stage show) are teaming up to bring a new series to NBC that picks up where the first movie left off. The drama will center around the teenage Bash Casey, who discovers his Dad's diary, and endeavors to learn more about the family legacy. And so, prep school beckons, and plays, sex, money, and power follow. I dunno, sounds like your average soap opera to me, with or without the name "Cruel Intentions." Is there...

Cruel Intentions TV Spin-Off In The Works
Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, and Sarah Michelle Gellar in Sexe intentions (1999)
Given that the 1999 original spawned two straight-to-video sequels, it’s almost surprising that Cruel Intentions has taken this long to attract a TV suitor. But with today’s telly landscape, in which any film has the potential to launch a small screen version, it was inevitable that someone would try, with NBC ordering a pilot script for a series.Unusually, this one actually features one of the original filmmakers – director Roger Kumble – working alongside Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross, who cooked up The Unauthorized Musical Parody Of Cruel Intentions. We suppose it makes sense to have people who obsessed over the film enough to write a spoof working on a new take. As appears to be another current trend for shows based on movies such as Minority Report, the film will not focus on two of the main characters Annette Hargrove and Sebastian Valmont (played in the film by Reese Witherspoon...

A Cruel Intentions TV Series Is in the Works Because Cruelty Never Goes Out of Style
Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, and Sarah Michelle Gellar in Sexe intentions (1999)
The final scene of Cruel Intentions was a touching one: It sent us off with the prep-school-uniform clad Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon) driving down a highway in the vintage convertible previously owned by her now-deceased lover, Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe), with his proto–Burn Book journal right by her side. Well, it turns out Annette was pregnant with Sebastian's child at the time, and that son will now be serving as the lead character in an upcoming Cruel Intentions television revival, according to Variety. The script — which has been bought by NBC and backed by the original film's writer and director Roger Krumble, producer Neal H. Moritz, and Unauthorized Musical Parody of Cruel Intentions creators Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin — will tell the present-day story of the 16-year-old Bash Casey. Abruptly stumbling upon his late father's journal, Bash discovers his complicated family legacy that wasn't previously known to him and,...

Cruel Intentions is getting a TV sequel from the man behind the original movie
Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, and Sarah Michelle Gellar in Sexe intentions (1999)
16 years after it steamed up the big screen, Cruel Intentions is getting a TV sequel.

The new Cruel Intentions series will focus on Bash Casey, the son of Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon's characters from the original movie, according to Deadline.

Bash discovers his family's secret legacy after finding his late father's journal. In search of answers, he wins a scholarship at the prestigious Brighton Preparatory Academy in San Francisco, where he finds himself drawn into a world of sex, money, power and corruption.

The project is in the works at NBC, with the movie's writer/director Roger Kumble on board to script the pilot episode.

Kumble is collaborating with Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross, who staged spoof production The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Cruel Intentions in Los Angeles earlier this year.

A modern update of the French novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses, 1999's Cruel Intentions starred Phillippe and Sarah Michelle Gellar...

NBC Developing 'Cruel Intentions' TV Show
Sex, money, power and corruption at an elite boarding school? That made for a great movie in 1999's "Cruel Intentions," and NBC is betting it'll make for a great TV show, too.

Variety reports that the network is developing a "Cruel Intentions" series with original writer and director Roger Kumble. The show would be a sequel - when Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon) drove off in the car owned by her dead lover, Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe), apparently she was pregnant. The show would focus on their 16-year-old son named Bash. He discovers his father's journal and learns about his parents' dark past. Looking for more answers, he goes to a prestigious school in San Francisco, where he "finds himself in a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined."

The script was written by Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross, who were behind this summer's "Cruel Intentions" musical in L.

The O.C. Musical Is Happening And We Feel Very Strongly About It
Jordan Ross
"Californiaaaaaaaa, here we cooooooooome."  Those had better be some of the lyrics to one of the songs performed in the musical version of The O.C. that is definitely, for real, being developed.  We're not even joking about that. The Cohens are back on August 30 when The O.C. Musical hits Los Angeles.  Produced by the same geniuses, Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin, that brought us the Cruel Intentions musical (attended by stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon and Selma Blair), the O.C. musical will feature characters from the show performing songs from the early 2000's. Despite the fact that the musical is only a couple of months away, only the roles of...
