According to The Los Angeles Times, her parents were hesitant to accept the part because of the rape and murder content in the film based on Alice Sebold’s award-winning and bestselling 2002 novel of the same name.

Filming Challenges and Saoirse’s Maturity Beyond Her Years

Production for the movie commenced in October 2007, filming in Pennsylvania, USA, and New Zealand. During the shoot, Saoirse was just 13 years old, celebrating her 14th birthday on April 12, 2008.

Another positive review of Pa drama One Hundred Mornings

Review by: Rick McGrath

Rating: 8 out of 10

We’re two months into a barely post-apocalyptic Ireland. The cause is an unexplained lack of electricity, the setting is very rural, and the plot is concerned with the quick, yet inevitable decline of the unprepared into the unimaginable. The times they are a-changin’.

Unlike the usual post-apocalyptic fare in which the hero sets off on some real or imagined quest against a backdrop of horror, in One Hundred Mornings our ineffectual characters basically sit around and wait for the shockwaves of the electrical meltdown to come to them. And come they do. And, sort of surprisingly, in pretty well the expected ways. However, it’s both the upside and the downside of 100M that we experience the physical and emotional toll of this social change not through glorious shots of urban abandonment and carnage,...

Saoirse Ronan's father protective of his little girl (IrishCentral)
Irish teen sensation Saoirse Ronan is growing up fast, as you can see from our picture taken last month. The Oscar nominated actress, only 15, sure knows how to work a red carpet too, blowing kisses to the press with aplomb. Saoirse’s dad, the Irish actor Paul Ronan, is rightfully protective of his girl given her level of fame. Given that her star continues to rise in Hollywood she certainly would be considered a good catch for some lucky guy . . . but Daddy will be guarding the door, so potential suitors better beware! "The one thing you would worry about is when she does meet somebody, that it's for the right reasons, and I'm sure it will be. But you have to watch out for that,” Paul told the press during the Irish premiere of her latest movie, The Lovely Bones, last week in Dublin. “You've got to be a little...

Saoirse Ronan: A name to reckon with
Saoirse Ronan stole the film in Atonement, and now she's at it again with The Lovely Bones. Not bad for a 15-year-old who likes to hang out with her family dog and eat crisps

Saoirse Ronan turned 15 last April and runs on a different clock from the rest of us. She says she's glad she didn't start acting young, because it might have screwed her up and burnt her out. It's not as if she began acting at, say, three or something. She waited until she was eight, which was more sensible, because when you reach "our age" (she includes me in this) you at least know what you're doing, and in any case, things didn't start getting weird until a few years ago, with the Oscar nomination. "So I'm glad I'm only really starting now," she says firmly. "Because it means I can be seen as an actor as opposed to a child actor.

Ronan and Sarandon attended the premier of 'Lovely Bones' in Sydney yesterday and the Irish actress said Sarandon (63), who plays her grandmother in the film, continued her motherly ways off screen.
