Wavy Gravy

Trivia

Wavy Gravy

Edit
  • In 1965, he and his wife, actress Bonnie Jean Beecher (Jaranatha Romney), co-founded a commune which by 1966 was located in North Hollywood and he became the manager of falsetto singer and ukulele player, Tiny Tim. Later in that year it moved to Sunland, California, in the San Fernando Valley. It moved again within Sunland, where the commune became the caretakers of an actual hog farm and took the eponymous name as its own. (Wavy refers to it as "hippie Hyannisport"). It was as a member of the "Hog Farm and Friends" performing troupe that he found himself pitching in to feed the masses at the original Woodstock Festival in 1969. The commune subsequently moved to Berkeley, California where it operated a telephone message service, "Babble On." In 1974, the commune also established "Camp Winnarainbow" in Laytonville, Mendocino county, California. It quickly proved to be fertile ground for various forms of performing arts. The commune also founded the Seva Foundation, which has long supported projects such as blindness prevention and sight restoration in India, and diabetes prevention and treatment, and buffalo raising, on the Winnebago reservation in Eastern Nebraska. The couple has one son, Jordan, a.k.a. "Howdy.".
  • Frequently works with a group of political satirists who run the "Nobody for President" campaign. He serves as "Nobody's Fool".
  • Had a flavor of Ben and Jerry's ice cream named after him.
