Alex Roman(1929-1970)

While scuba diving near Empire Landing on the east side of Santa Catalina Island, Roman, whose real name was Robert Arthur Lockwood, became entangled in a kelp bed. He was diving with a party from a 28-foot cabin cruiser called Cruising Club and had been submerged long enough to consume most of his air supply when he became entangled in the kelp and drowned. He was 41.
