The MCU Officially Made Iron Man’s Obsession With Avengers Nicknames Even Deeper
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for What If...? season 2 episode 2

In What If...? season 2 episode 2, it is revealed that Tony Stark got his habit of giving nicknames from his father, Howard Stark. Tony's use of nicknames is not just a display of his quick wit, but also a reflection of his connection to his father and his desire for approval. Despite their complicated relationship, Tony still idolized his father and took on his traits, including his penchant for nicknaming people.

After 15 years, the MCU has finally offered an official reason for one of Iron Man’s most frequent habits. During his 11 years leading the Marvel franchise, Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark gave almost all of his Avengers teammates (and several villains). While that could have been explained by his provocative character, a new MCU release has added a deeper reason.

Stark famously gave his enemies and those he sought...

Andre the Giant Honored by WWE and The Princess Bride Fans in Remembrance on His 75th Birthday
Image
Andre the Giant is starting to trend on social media as fans across the world pay tribute to the iconic actor and WWE Hall of Famer on what would have been his 75th birthday. Andre, who stood over seven feet tall because of his gigantism, is particularly well-known for his feud with Hulk Hogan in the 1980s. He also has just as many fans outside of the wrestling community thanks to his memorable role in the classic fantasy movie The Princess Bride.

Sadly, André the Giant passed away in 1993 at the age of 46. Still, the legacy of the larger-than-life personality is still shining brightly. There are many paying tribute with special posts for Andre on Twitter. This includes several other personalities from the wrestling business, such as Vince McMahon himself, along with many, many pro wrestling fans.

"A titan of stature, strength, athleticism, and heart. Thinking of my friend Andre...

Killer Wolf: Len Kabasinski – A Legend Of Cult Cinema
Article by Mark Longden

Len Kabasinski had a childhood much like many of us – grew up loving genre movies (for him, kung-fu and sci-fi, and sci-fi-kung-fu), but unlike many of us, when he grew up he had the drive and determination to parlay that into a filmmaking career which has now lasted over a decade and gone from strength to strength.

His first film was a little gem called “Swamp Zombies!!!” (yes, three exclamation marks) While it looks a lot like the legions of other no-budget forests-based horror movies that we’ve been subjected to in recent years, it’s differentiated by two things that would become Kabasinski trademarks – oddball casting and excellent fight scenes. The latter can be explained by his being a nationally ranked martial artist and knowing lots of people who can fight well on camera; but the former is probably the first reason I became a fan,...

WWE Wrestler Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka Passes Away at 73
Jimmy Snuka
The colorful world of WWE sports entertainment has lost one of its most iconic wrestlers over the weekend. Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka, who was best known for his leaps from the top rope in the 1980s, passed away on Sunday night at the age of 73. Attorney Robert Kirwan II announced that the wrestler was taken to his son-in-law's home in Pompano Beach, Florida, confirming that he passed, "due to complications from his ongoing medical problems." But he wouldn't elaborate any further on those medical problems. Here's what the WWE had to say in a statement.

"WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka has passed away. Snuka is regarded by many as the pioneer of high-flying offense because of his Superfly Splash from the top turnbuckle. His dive off the top of the steel cage onto Don Muraco at Madison Square Garden as hundreds...

12 February WWE PPV Matches That Totally Sucked
WWE.com

WWE’s February pay-per-views are typically the last major stop on the road to WrestleMania. They are the shows that feature (at least some of) the final significant swerves and championship victories ahead of the Showcase of the Immortals. In some instances, they even drastically alter the direction the company takes its top feuds and how they use their biggest stars.

The shows have been home to epic encounters and five-star classics. From Steve Austin vs. Triple H in 2001 to Kurt Angle vs. The Undertaker in 06, WWE’s February broadcasts have brought fans truly enduring matches.

For every Cactus Jack vs. Triple H Hell in a Cell match, though, there are three or four matches that royally reek of sucktitude. Like, Scott Steiner circa 2003 sucking. Or Blue Meanie vs. Goldust in a battle of He Who is Freakier suckiness.

As often as the performers are working hard in...

10 Wrestling Facts We Didn’t Know Last Week (16 Oct)
WWE.com

The ongoing ‘female revolution’ storyline has lost traction over the past few weeks in WWE. Previously, the Diva division had 3 distinct groups, Team Bella, Team B.A.D and Team Pcb. The latter has splintered somewhat, due to Paige turning heel and delivering a shoot-style promo on her former team mates. It’s not uncommon to see the creative team lose faith in an angle quickly, which pushes it down the ladder of importance.

For Becky Lynch, the drive to main event a WWE Pay-Per-View is still strong. During a recent interview to promote the company in Ireland, the Diva noted that she’s motivated by the idea of one day seeing a women’s match in the headline slot of a major event. That’s not the only fact Becky brings to the table this week, she also discusses her formative years in the industry.

That’s...

Full Content Listing For Upcoming Owen Hart DVD And Blu-ray
WWE.com

The full content listing for the upcoming WWE DVD and Blu-ray set on the life and death of Owen Hart has been revealed, courtesy of the Wrestling DVD Network. The list includes all chapter titles for the documentary feature on disc one, as well as all extras, including the full list of matches selected for the package.

Bret Hart recently commented on the documentary portion of the set, sounding very pessimistic about the chances that the documentary will do a good job telling the full story of his brother’s life. Bret believes that WWE is having to walk on egg shells to cater to Owen’s widow, Martha, who is not supporting the DVD release.

Bret told the Fight Network:

“I’m looking forward to it but I’m not really optimistic that it’s going to be a great job. Martha handcuffed them so much. I...

‘Ecw Unreleased: Vol. 3′ Blu-ray Review
WWE continue with their volume releases of Ecw history with the third Ecw Unreleased release, hosted by Joey Styles, Stevie Richards and The Blue Meanie. I recall Ecw fondly in many ways, and it is fun to go back and look at some of the matches, wrestlers and storylines that made the grungy extreme promotion an underground (and eventually more than that) hit. With comments and introductions from the three hosts, this is a collection of matches and angles that will appeal, like the previous sets, to Ecw fans, and people looking to discover the history of hardcore.

There are some blinders in here, I have to say. But, with wrestlers like Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Cactus “Mick Foley” Jack, Lance Storm, Chris Jericho, Terry Funk and others, it’s easy to see why there is a high level of quality in some of the matches on offer. Ecw provided...

Former WWE Wrestler ‘The Zombie’ Is Dead At The Age Of 38
wwe.com

Tim Arson Roberts has died at the age of 38. He had wrestled for fourteen years, most memorably as The Zombie in WWE’s revived Ecw. The cause of death is unknown at this time. He was found dead on the 7th of January.

The Zombie provided one of the most infamous moments in the debut episode of WWE’s Ecw in 2006. He plodded to the ring with his arms outstretched, hamming up his performance to cartoon levels more reminiscent of the 1980’s WWF. It certainly wasn’t the edgy kind of hardcore wrestling that Ecw fans had wanted.

The Sandman proceeded to beat the hell out of The Zombie with a kendo stick, giving fans some relief that the new Ecw would have some hardcore elements. The Zombie then appeared in WWE for a few more weeks, before quietly disappearing from the company.

Looking back, The Zombie was...

Former Ufc Fighter Training For Pro Wrestling Debut With Ecw Vet
Former Ufc fighter Matt Riddle is known as a controversial fighter who once claimed smoking weed kept him from being the kind of guy who beat his family. He’s also known for having two fight results in the Ufc overturned after testing positive for marijuana metabolites. After being released from the Ufc as a result (despite having a winning record and some entertaining bouts), and having Dana White publicly slam him, he wound up in Bellator, but never made it to the cage.

Now retired from Mma, Riddle spoke to Dave Meltzer via MMAFighting.com and had the following to say about a pro wrestling run:

“I’m no longer 22, I don’t care about tough man contests. This has been my goal my entire life. I looked in the mirror four months ago. I was tired of cutting weight, getting sick, I got the [WWE] network for $9.99 and started...

WWE: 10 Notoriously Difficult To Work With Wrestlers
WWE.com

As far as the wrestling business goes, you pretty much have to be the best of the best of the best in world to get to the WWE. The criteria for a WWE Superstar is pretty strict and Vince’s employees are expected to perform lest they perish in the cleansing fire of being future endeavoured. Occasionally though, some buck the trend. Some continue to survive and persevere in spite of either their own in-ring ineptitude (by WWE standards of course) or their appalling behavior backstage.

Thankfully this doesn’t happen as much any more due to stricter employee policy and the fantastic training coure that is Nxt, but that doesn’t mean it’s non existant, or that we can ignore the awkward wrestlers of days gone by.

Ranked in order of just how much of a hindrance the person was and the extent to which they got away with,...

WWE: 10 Real Life Wrestler Romances That Ended In Heartbreak
Copyright: WWE – You Think You Know Me Blu-ray

Professional wrestling has been referred to as a sporting soap opera, and like any good soap opera, it has its share of romantic relationships, both real and scripted.

Throughout the years romance has often blossomed between co workers outside of the ring. Many months spent on the road become a little easier with a loving partner alongside you. On screen story-line relationships often spill over into real life (Hhh and Stephanie anyone?) and occasionally real life relationships are turned into story-lines. Attractive, young, fit, healthy men and women working together, sparks fly and relationships forming seem inevitable.

Less inevitable, finding their happily ever after. Working with your spouse can be taxing on your relationship. Working with your spouse in the environment of professional wrestling seems even harder, often leading to heartbreak, and even tragedy. Honorable mentions go to, Torrie Wilson and Billie Kidman,...

Yellow Submarine scuppered by Disney
Disney is reported to have sunk Robert Zemeckis's 3D remake after the disastrous opening of Mars Needs Moms, which he produced

Martians may have torpedoed Disney's plans for a 3D remake of the Beatles' 1968 film Yellow Submarine, according to the Hollywood Reporter, an industry paper.

The new film was being developed by Robert Zemeckis, the Oscar-winning director of Forrest Gump, Back to the Future and Cast Away, and was to use the 16 Beatles songs and recordings from the original animated film. But Disney has sunk the film after one of its most disastrous weekends in recent years.

Mars Needs Moms, a $150m, 3D animated film produced by Zemeckis, took only $6.9m (£4.3m) at Us cinemas, despite opening in more than 3,000 theatres. By comparison, Battle: Los Angeles, a sci-fi thriller opening at the same time, took more than $35m in roughly the same number of cinemas.

The remake of Yellow Submarine...

Actresses looking to survive film awards season – ignore your stylist

Long-burning, eh? You should probably get some cream for that. But in the meantime, hopefully I can provide some verbal balm.

This is an issue up there with some of the greatest unresolved questions of our time: where do crop circles come from? 'Stargate Universe' - 'Divided' Recap
Robert Carlyle, Lou Diamond Phillips, Ming-Na Wen, Louis Ferreira, Alaina Huffman, Jamil Walker Smith, Elyse Levesque, Brian J. Smith, and David Blue in Stargate: Universe (2009)
(S01E12) The tide is turning. 'Stargate Universe' is quickly becoming a must-watch sci-fi drama. So far, season one's second half has delivered two of the best episodes of the series. The writers, cast and crew are really starting to get the hang of that dark, tense and atmospheric thing they've been trying to do since the show premiered last October.

"Divided" grabbed me from the opening moments with Chloe walking through the empty ship and that brooding Brand New song creeping up in the background. The nightmare sequence ended on a chilling note with Chloe trapped in the water tank trying to make contact with her mother. Things got extra spooky when that Blue Meanie showed up; those guys are really starting to give me the creeps.

This episode centered on Wray and Rush's attempt to seize command of the ship from the military personnel. Like I wrote last week,...

Michael Sheen in The Damned United (2009)
Michael Sheen started 2009 as a werewolf, in the Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, and ended it as a vampire in The Twilight Saga: New Moon. You'd be forgiven if you missed his other film when it was released in theaters. The Damned United, a biopic about infamous British soccer (aka football) coach Brian Clough, certainly doesn't co-star Robert Pattinson. But the film, out this week on DVD, is a true gem, a sports film that's not really like any other sports film you've ever seen. United is written by Peter Morgan, the scribe who also helped Sheen become Tony Blair...

'The Beatles' on board Yellow Submarine remake
Director Robert Zemeckis has chosen Cary Elwes, Peter Serafinowicz, Adam Campbell and, er, Kev from Shameless to play the Fab Four in a new version of the 1968 film

The cast of the Yellow Submarine film has been chosen, and there's not a Harrison, Lennon, McCartney or Starr among them. When director Robert Zemeckis's remake of the Beatles classic arrives in cinemas, it's Cary Elwes, Peter Serafinowicz, Adam Campbell and, er, Kev from Shameless who will be masquerading as mop-tops.

Though Zemeckis reportedly invited the Beatles' surviving members to appear in the film, neither Paul nor Ringo now seem to be involved. Instead, Reuters reports, the four actors are in final negotiations to play the Fab Four. Zemeckis, best known for Back to the Future and Forrest Gump, will be replacing the 1968 film's hand-drawn animation with CGI and motion-capture techniques – the same technology he used on recent films like Beowulf and A Christmas Carol.

Exclusive Interview: Chris Weitz (New Moon Director) - Part I
Chris Weitz had a tough act to follow. The talented writer-producer-director had directed such films as American Pie (1999), About a Boy (2002), and The Golden Compass (2007), and now he's the man behind the camera on one of the year's most breathlessly anticipated movies, The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009). Just that title alone clues you into the myriad tasks and quandaries at hand for Weitz: he was stepping into an existing franchise that got off to a blockbuster start last year with Twilight (2008); he was taking over from another director (Catherine Hardwicke) with an entirely different style; he was inheriting a cast -- including Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner -- already intimately familiar with their respective roles, and he was directing a movie that was no longer just a sequel to a popular movie, but rather the next installment in a billion-dollar phenomenon. PopStar recently spoke with Weitz by telephone...

Michael Sheen on The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Michael Sheen transforms into every character he plays. When it.s a real life historical figure like Tony Blair or David Frost, we can confirm exactly how accurate a job he did. The Twilight fans can probably cast even more scrutiny about Aro, the Volturi leader in The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

Michael Sheen Enjoys a New Moon

.It was from Stephenie in the book,. Sheen said. .She describes Aro as having a voice like feathers, so that made me think about what would it sound like if someone had a voice like feathers. Then, as I was starting to play around with it, I reminded myself a little bit of the Blue Meanie. You remember the Blue Meanie in Yellow Submarine and the hand that goes with it? Then I was also thinking about characters from when I was a kid watching stuff that really freaked me out and...

As most of you know, this weekend was the press junket for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” here in Los Angeles. Since so many of the cast were in attendance, Summit Entertainment divided up the actors by who they played in the movie. Since Michael Sheen (Aro), Jamie Campbell Bower (Caius), Dakota Fanning (Jane), and Cameron Bright (Alec) played the Volturi in “New Moon”, it made sense they would share a press conference. So if you’d like to read or listen to what they had to say about their characters and being in “New Moon”, hit the jump.

As always, you can either read the transcript below or click here to listen to the audio. Finally, look for my one on one video interview with Michael Sheen in a few days. It was a great interview that you’ll really enjoy.

New Moon Volturi Interview, Dakota Fanning, Michael Sheen
We caught up with all the members of the Volturi and got to talk to them about their new film New Moon. Those who participated in the interview are as follows; Michael Sheen (Aro), Jamie Campbell Bower (Caius), Dakota Fanning (Jane) and Cameron Bright (Alec).

The Twilight Saga: New Moon marks the first appearance of the Volturi, the closest the vampire world has to royalty and a major force in the future of the saga. Centuries old and unimaginably powerful, they serve as lawmakers and enforcers for the community. The leader of the group is Aro, played by Michael Sheen. Sheen is no stranger to this world, having played a werewolf enslaved by the vampires in the Underworld series.

Q: Dakota, as such a fan of the series, you’ve said in many interviews before that you were really excited about this so what were the highlights of playing Jane...

Michael Sheen in Twilight: Chapitre 2 - Tentation (2009)
Sheen Turns Chitty Chitty Villain Into Vampire King
Michael Sheen in Twilight: Chapitre 2 - Tentation (2009)
Michael Sheen partly based his Twilight sequel vampire king character on the dastardly child catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

The Brit, who has mastered the voices of Tony Blair, David Frost and soccer icon Brian Clough for movies, admits he read Stephenie Meyer's books for clues about how his character, Aro, should sound in The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

He tells WENN, "Stephanie wrote something in the book that his voice sounded like feathers, and that was the thing that stuck with me - the idea of someone who sounds very soft and charming and nice and kind, but underneath he’s a psychotic killer.

"It reminded me of the child capturer a little bit in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or the Blue Meanie in (Beatles film) Yellow Submarine, who has a very soft voice but (he's) completely insane, so there’s a little bit of that in Arrow as well."...

'The Beatles: Rock Band' Videos Bring Their Own Special Sort Of Joy
"The Beatles: Rock Band" is more than just a game. It's also perfect for adding ambience to house parties, even if you're not willing to break out the miniature plastic instruments. By combining "Rock Band"'s Performance Mode (turns off the Hud) and No-Fail Mode (pretty self-explanatory) with the Make A Setlist option in Quickplay, you can essentially build your own Beatles video playlist.

This is especially appealing because of all of the work Harmonix put into crafting virtual counterparts for the legendary quartet. The Beatles stopped performing live concerts after their 1966 United States tour, focusing instead on studio work. A large chunk of their catalog, including classics like "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "The Beatles" (aka the "White" album, for its distinctive cover art), was never performed in front of a crowd. Since this was also before the age of the short-form music video, fans have never...
