Peter Rogers

Edit
  • Was a dog lover, particularly the Alsatian breed.
  • As a child he had a fear of cows.
  • Had spinal meningitis as a child and was in hospital for one year.
  • He was declared bankrupt in 1994, which he blamed on a bad investment in a TV company. After his death 15 years later, his wealth was valued at just over 3.5 million pounds.
  • He made the 'Carry On' films on very tight budgets and the actors were paid a one-off fee, with no money from TV or video sales.
  • Had a twin brother Paul Thomas Rogers.
  • His two great loves were animals and music.
  • He had no musical education but was devoted to music, a passion that started as a child turning the pages when his father played the piano.. He taught himself to read music when 21 and developed a wide taste and knowledge being able to play the piano, organ, and balalaika. He' was also something of a composer having contributed to the theme music for the Joan Collins film 'Quest For Love'.
  • A script for a tv drama called 'The Bull Boys' which no one wanted landed on Peters desk . He passed it to script writer John Antrobus and told him to make it funny, which he did but it then lacked logic. Peter then gave it to Norman Hudis who turned it into the comedy Peter had envisaged and he then took it to Stuart Levy who liked it except for the title and wanted to change it to 'Carry on Sergeant'. Peter then offered it to director Val Guest whose latest film ' Carry on Admiral' was doing well in cinemas but he didn't want to do it. so Peter turned to Gerald Thomas and the rest is history.
  • Some of the cast of the Carry On series nicknamed him "Filthy Rich Rogers".
  • He was an independent producer at Pinewood Studios, London, England.
  • Godfather of actor/producer Marc Sinden.
  • Godfather to his niece Gabrielle Alice Mayon Barker.
  • He lived at Beaconsfield.
  • His favourite Carry on was Up the Khyber while Geralds was Camping.
  • The idea, and story line were created by discussion between Peter , Gerald Thomas and the writer.
  • He and Gerald Thomas started as friends and ended up as partners making over 50 films and many tv series together.
  • Along with director Gerald Thomas they were presented in December 1990 the inaugural Jester for Lifetime Achievement in Film at the British Comedy Awards.
  • He registered the title 'Carry on Charlie' which was going to be about Bonnie Prince Charlie.
  • He outlived the majority of the Carry On stars, all of whom were either the same age group as him or a lot younger.
