  • Is the daughter of Yeshaiahu "Shaya" Blechman, a Russian-born Israeli professor of mathematics, and Rosa Blechman.
  • Majored in art, history, and languages at the University of Tel Aviv.
  • First acted on stage billed as Ziva Shapir.
  • In 1956, she became the first Israeli actress to sign a long-term contract with a major Hollywood studio, Universal-International.
  • One of four Israeli actresses who were famous in Hollywood in the 1950s. She made her American film debut in Pharaoh's Curse (1957), and was followed by Chana Eden in La forêt interdite (1958), Haya Harareet in Ben-Hur (1959), and Elana Eden in L'histoire de Ruth (1960).
