We still have a ton of questions about that Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 finale — primarily, who (if anyone) died in that massive gas explosion in the surgical wing — and we’ll have to wait until Season 22 arrives this fall to find out the answers to them. Apart from addressing the finale’s biggest cliffhangers, though, we’re also starting to wonder what else Season 22 might have in store for us. Particularly, will there be any more surprise returnees from seasons past? Season 21 saw the (brief) return of Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) in the season premiere episode to confront Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) about her Alzheimer’s research publication. The season also brought back Sydney Heron (Kali Rocha) to fill in for Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), like she’d done when Miranda was on maternity leave back in the olden days of the show, Season 2. Before that, Season 20 brought back Arizona...

Season 21 of Grey's Anatomy was a season of change. Doctors we came to know and love said goodbye early in the season, and others stopped by for a visit. The wedding bells will ring in this week's episode of Grey's Anatomy. After a lengthy and rocky dating period, Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) and Link (Chris Carmack) are finally tying the knot, and the season's event is bringing back some familiar faces to our screens. Jo's best friend, Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli), is returning to witness the wedding first-hand, and ABC unveiled some first-look images from the new episode that show Borelli once again among his former co-stars. The episode airs this Thursday.
The return makes Borelli the latest alumnus to walk the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital floors after exiting the series. Season 21 brought several familiar faces back, including title character Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), Season 3's Sydney Heron (Kali Rocha), Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman), and Tom Koracick (Greg Germann).

Shondaland, the company behind hits such as Grey’s Anatomy, Bridgerton and upcoming murder mystery The Residence, is turning 20 this year.
Shonda Rhimes and her production partner Betsy Beers have been responsible for hundreds of hours of scripted television in that time.
At a Deadline-moderated panel session at NATPE in Miami, Beers talked about the past, present and future of Shondaland as it readies its latest show – The Residence starring Uzo Aduba. She also talked about the fourth season of Bridgerton, the future of Grey’s Anatomy and hopes to expand the company’s non-fiction slate.
Beers, who is being feted at NATPE as a “Shift Disturber” didn’t give too much away about season four of its steamy rom-com, which recently started production. “It’s about Benedict Bridgerton,” she joked when asked to tease the upcoming season, which will focus on Luke Thompson’s character and his love interest Sophie Baek,...

Sophia Bush is scrubbing into Grey’s Anatomy! Find out who she’s playing in the hit drama here!
Grey’s Anatomy has a great habit of bringing in some good actors for recurring roles that often turn into regulars. Last season, Natalie Morales joined the show as Dr. Monica Beltran, who’s now a regular face. The Season 21 premiere brought back Dr. Sydney Heron (Kali Rocha), who hadn’t been seen since Season 7. Her return was short-lived, as the latest episode had Heron departing when Bailey took back her job.
Grey’s will undergo a cast shift soon as Midori Francis will soon be departing as intern Mika Yasuda. An upcoming episode introduces Mika’s sister Chloe (Julia Rose), who checks in as a patient, and this could be a plotline to write off the character.

It's not unusual to see network shows bring back fan-favorite characters, no matter how long they've been absent from the show, more so for Grey's Anatomy. Grey Sloan Memorial frequently shuffles between old and new characters, a recent example being the return of Dr. Sydney Heron 17 years after her last appearance with actress Kali Rocha returning to reprise the role. While Rocha's return was divisive among the fandom, one character that would almost unanimously excite fans if they were to come back is Dr Alex Karev, played by Justin Chambers. Chambers is one of the show's original cast members who spent 15 years playing the fan-favorite character before his heartbreaking departure in 2020.

Grey’s Anatomy fans may be cheering the return of Jason George as Ben Warren after he spent seven seasons on spinoff Station 19. But the doctor that they get back may not exactly be the doctor that they remember.
Though historically Bailey’s better half has had a habit of going rogue and landing himself in hot water, “he’s had seven years with the Seattle fire department, where there are a lot of protocols and rules, just like a hospital,” showrunner Meg Marinis reminds TVLine. “He’s had more experience.”

The latest episode saw Meredith and Bailey team up to get Catherine to go after treatment. She has beaten the odds on so many other occasions, why not on this one? Catherine has agreed, but she still doesn’t want to tell Webber anything. That’s a problem for Meredith in the new episode.

Dr. Sydney Heron appeared back in Grey's Anatomy season 2 before disappearing in season 4, but season 21 brought her back to Grey Sloan Memorial heres why the cheerful surgical resident left and what brought her back in Greys Anatomy season 21. One thing we've come to expect from Grey's Anatomy is that the show is always open to bringing back fan-favorite characters, regardless of how long they've been away from their duties at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. The latest Season 21 welcomes the return of two alums, including Dr. Sydney Heron who faded into obscurity after Season 4. Kali Rocha returns to reprise the character after a lengthy 17-year gap that currently stands as the longest a returning character has been away from the show. Heron's quiet exit was left unexplained until now, as Rocha has finally addressed her character's abrupt disappearance following a few appearances in Season 4.

Grey's Anatomy just welcomed back an old face for Season 21, but where has Dr. Sydney Heron been? The actress explains!
Grey's Anatomy is good at bringing back some past characters over the years. They can range from major past characters to a few supporting players, as the door is always open for someone to come back after years away and close out a story. Yet the return of Dr. Sydney Heron in the Season 21 opener was a surprise.
The character first appeared way back in Season 2's "Break On Through" when the hospital was dealing with Bailey on maternity leave and a nurse's strike. Played by Kali Rocha, she instantly became known for her ridiculously perky and positive attitude that soon drove the other doctors crazy. A flashback episode revealed she'd lost a patient when she was an intern and so put on the show of always smiling through the pain.

Season 21 of Grey's Anatomy sees the return of Dr. Sydney Heron, portrayed in the earlier years of the series by Kali Rocha. After fading away without explanation in Season 4, Heron is back in the new season, marking an absence from the series of nearly two decades.
Per Tell-Tale TV, Rocha has finally addressed her exit from the series 17 years later. Her unceremonious departure and lengthy absence was not due to any bad blood between herself and the Grey's Anatomy team, as Rocha explained. She shared how her run on the show consisted of continuous calls back to go someplace new with her character, but that ended when one attempt to bring her back couldn't happen because of her pregnancy at the time. From there, Rocha's career took her further away from Grey's Anatomy, and she'd mostly forgotten about it until she was recently called upon once again to make a return to the show.

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about the If Walls Could Talk episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.
The Season 21 premiere of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy started and ended with a bang, leaving us with a few questions.
That shocking slap from the promos came down at the very beginning of the episode, with Bailey hitting her boss Catherine when the latter called her “just another doctor.” Turns out it was a recurring dream Bailey had been having after she was let go from Grey Sloan over her objection to the decision to have Lucas repeat a year.

When asked about her return, Meg told Parade, “The writers have pitched her coming back multiple times since I’ve been a part of this staff. The previous times, it didn’t feel right. When it was pitched in conjunction with the story that we’re telling in the premiere, it fit perfectly. It brought a huge smile to my face. It was not my idea, it came from the writers’ room, and we all jumped on the idea.

A new sneak peek at Grey’s Anatomy season 21 sees the return of Jesse Williams’ beloved Jackson Avery and tensions rising at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital after season 20’s dramatic finale.
In the clip, exclusively provided to People, fans get their first glimpse at Dr. Sydney Heron (Kali Rocha) and “all her passive-aggressive glory” since 2007, when she left the ABC medical drama.
In the 30-second glimpse at the upcoming season, Rocha’s Dr. Heron is seen speaking to the interns and telling them to think of her as one of them because she was previously a resident at the hospital. “Who’s ready to heal with love?” she says before hugging Chandra Wilson’s Dr. Miranda Bailey.
The teaser also reveals that Jesse Williams’ Dr. Jackson Avery will be returning for season 21 in some capacity — and his character does not seem thrilled with Ellen Pompeo’s Dr. Meredith Grey, following the events of the season 20 finale.

Grey's Anatomy season 21 bringing back an original, unexpected character makes the story more interesting for new characters. Dr. Sydney Heron's return can showcase the quirkiness that made her unforgettable in the medical drama's earlier seasons. Before Michael Shannon returns as villain, General Zod, in The Flash, he makes a return to deal with the embolden domestic terrorists in the follow-up show to Showtime’s six-part mini-series, Waco. The new chapters in the story follow the events in the wake of the siege at Mount Carmel. The focus centers around the trials of the surviving members of the Branch Davidians and anger from the public who felt the feds had gone a little too far. Collider has the report on the new trailer that’s been released days after the teaser on the new series.
Set to a cover of “Losing My Religion,” the footage kicks off with Noesner explaining how Waco has only united civil war-minded domestic terrorists and other individuals who lack faith in the American government and justice system. The result is a rise in further incidents and more animosity toward the FBI in particular.
