Why Marvel's Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes Was Canceled
Image
If you asked me what the finest adaptation of the Marvel Universe is, the 2010 cartoon "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" would have to be up there.

It was the second attempt at an Avengers cartoon, after the best forgotten "Avengers: United They Stand." "Earth's Mightiest Heroes," from the moment it premiered on Disney Xd, was much better. Developed by Marvel animation veterans Christopher Yost and Joshua Fine with director Ciro Nieli, "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" did what the (sadly short-lived) "Spectacular Spider-Man" did. It took the whole of "Avengers" comics, picked out the most famous stories and what worked, and streamlined a messy publication history into an epic saga.

Yost and Fine, as adult fans of Marvel Comics, were clearly writing with people like themselves in mind. But that wasn't to the detriment of young viewers! What kids got in "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" was a show that respected their intelligence and attention.

The Star Trek actor with the most interesting name ever is...
Image
The Star Trek franchise has welcomed hundreds of guest stars, perhaps even 1,000 or more, since The Original Series debuted in 1966. And some of those guest actors and actresses have had exotic names. Redshirts Always Die went in search of the single most interesting name of the past nearly 60 years of Star Trek television. We skipped the feature films (including Section 31), video games, online games, unofficial productions, Short Treks, etc., and focused on examining the cast lists of The Original Series, The Animated Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, and Prodigy.

Among the names that caught our eye: Thalmus Rasulala, Clement von Franckenstein, Brian Demonbreun, Maurishka, Bumper Robinson, Symba, Olia Kashevarova, Somkele Ilyamah-Idhalama, Calyx Passailaigue, Xavier X. Sotelo, Ito Aghayere, Jon Jon Briones (the father of Picard co-star Isa Briones), and Menik Gooneratne. Some of these actors hail (or hailed) from countries other than the United States,...

Marvel's First Live-Action X-Men Attempt Went Horribly Wrong
Image
In November of 1994, Marvel Comics launched an X-Men title to feature an almost all-brand-new crop of teen characters called, collectively, Generation X. The team consisted of the established X-Woman Jubilee, joined by striking superpowered high-schoolers like Chamber, Husk, Skin, Mondo, M, and Synch. The team was overseen by Banshee and the White Queen, and their adventures aimed to be hipper and edgier -- in that MTV sort of way -- than those of their adult counterparts.

"Generation X" was a modest hit with comics readers, but not enough to stick around indefinitely. The series ended after three years and 75 issues. The characters, however, were perfect fodder for a "young 'n' hip" version of the X-Men, a fact that TV producers at Fox latched onto. In 1996, Fox executive producer Eric Blakeney, one of the writers of "21 Jump Street," felt he could take his previous show's "teens as undercover law enforcers" shtick,...

Marvel's Avengers: Endgame Storyline Shares Many Similarities with Ben 10
Image
Quick Links From Thanos Snapping His Fingers to Setting Off a Bomb The Third Episode Name Drops the Avengers (Almost) Time Travel Is a Genre All by Itself

Lets see. Replace the mad titan known as Thanos with a similarly-looking intergalactic alien warlord that goes by the name of Vilgax. Swap out the act of ridding the world of most of its heroes with a finger snap for a biomechanical explosive that does the same thing with a plume of doom. Oh, and instead of a ragtag team of Marvel heroes traveling back to certain points in time to collect the Infinity Stones, a character with the nickname of No Watch Ben and Professor Paradox go on the same type of time-hopping adventure to gather numerous types of multiversal heroes to take down the villain.

If you havent figured it out yet, an original series on Cartoon Network, Ben 10: Omniverse,...

Image
It's a full month at Prime Video and Freevee! This August, get ready for the Season 2 premiere of Prime Video's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” Based partially on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Silmarillion” and set thousands of years before the events of the original “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, the epic series covers the major events of Middle-earth’s Second Age, including the forging of the eponymous Rings of Power, the rise of the Sauron, and the last alliance between elves and men. The second season will premiere late in the month on Aug. 29, but first, take your own quest there and back again: on Aug. 1, both “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” trilogies will be available on the streamer.

The new month will also usher in the premiere of “Batman: Caped Crusader,” a new noir take on “Batman: The Animated Series” from original creator Bruce Timm.

The series serves as a spiritual successor to Batman: The Animated Series, set in a 1930s or 1940s era, showcasing a younger Batman. The show will explore the psychological depths of Gotham's inhabitants, with a mix of iconic villains and allies from Batman's lore.

Image
Batman: Caped Crusader is only a day away from being released and I have already watched the series and reviewed it on our site. The only thing I want to say is that I am so excited for all the Batman and specifically Batman: The Animated Series fans to watch this series. The upcoming Prime Video series was described as the spiritual successor to The Animated Series and that’s exactly what it is.

Set in the 1940s, Caped Crusader follows a new-to-the-job Batman who doesn’t have many fancy gadgets but what he does have is a brilliant mind for clues and his fists to keep the weirdos and costumed supervillains in check. With the help of his allies, Batman fights against the rising criminal activities in Gotham. So, if you love Batman: The Animated Series and are excited about all the mayhem in Batman: Caped Crusader, here are...

Batman: Caped Crusader Reveals Gender-Swapped Penguin Voiced by Minnie Driver
Image
The Penguin has been reimagined as a woman in the upcoming animated series Batman: Caped Crusader. The character will also be voiced by an Oscar nominee in the show.

Per Variety, big news has been revealed at San Diego Comic-Con for Batman: Caped Crusader. While the character's first name has been slighly changed, the supervillain will still be referred to as The Penguin. A first look at the character can be seen in a new image released by Prime Video.

Futurama Used Bender's Game To Parody A Terrible, Forgotten Tom Hanks Movie
Image
It took a lot of writerly sci-fi calisthenics to get there, but the events of the 2008 "Futurama" movie "Bender's Game" take place largely in a Gygaxian world of wizards, knights, centaurs, and dragons. There are no hobbits, but hobos and rabbits are doing what they can to redress their absence.

It seems that the alcoholic robot Bender (John Dimaggio) was built without an imagination, a grievous deficiency indeed when he is asked to play "Dungeons & Dragons" with his 12-year-old friends Cubert (Kath Soucie) and Dwight (Bumper Robinson). Bender eventually comes around and invents a character named Titanius Anglesmith, Fancyman of Cornwood.

Sadly, playing D&d forces Bender's newly discovered imagination into overdrive, and he soon believes that he is Titanius Anglesmith. Like Don Quixote before him, Bender now sees himself as a brave knight errant, tilting at the high-tech windmills of the 31st century. He will eventually be committed...

Top 10 The Owl House Characters, Ranked
Image
The Owl House was an animated series that ran from 2020-2023, and while the fantasy world and great story was a draw, the characters are what made it so popular. From the happy-go-lucky lead protagonist Luz Noceda (Sarah Nicole-Robles) to her shifty but loyal mentor Eda Clawthorne (Wendie Malick), these characters fill out the magical world of Demonland, and Hooty, who is The Owl House himself.

The series first premiered on Disney+ and included two full-length seasons and a final third season that consists of three specials. The Owl House characters have been widely praised for their depictions of LGBTQ+ characters, as well as the humor that is appropriate for all ages. Night Court Reboot Could See More Original Stars Return For New Show
Image
NBC’s Night Court reboot could bring back more original series stars, teases the show’s EP. Set on the night shift of a Manhattan criminal court, the original Night Court became a solid ratings performer for NBC during the 1980s, going on to run for nine seasons. Now the legal wackiness is back, as Night Court has returned for a revival series, starring Big Bang Theory’s Melissa Rauch as presiding judge Abby Stone, the daughter of original series judge Harry Stone (Harry Anderson).

Though most of the Night Court revival’s cast is indeed new, there is one original series hold-over in John Laroquette, who is back as ever-pompous attorney Dan Fielding. But could other original Night Court stars make their way to the revival series? The answer to that is “maybe,” according to reboot executive producer Dan Rubin. Speaking during the recent TCA winter press tour (via...

'Ultimate Spider-Man' Casts Donald Glover as Miles Morales
Donald Glover
Before Andrew Garfield was locked-in for The Amazing Spider-Man, there was a fan campaign to get Community star Donald Glover cast in the role of Peter Parker. While the actor-turned-rapper lost out on the coveted character, Marvel did go onto create Miles Morales in the comic books, based partially on Donald Glover and President Barack Obama. Now, Donald Glover will voice Miles Morales, who at one point took over for Peter Parker, during Season 3 of Ultimate Spider-Man.

Here is a clip from his first appearance on the Disney Xd animated series:

Ultimate Spider-Man will return this Sunday for it's season premiere Avenging Spider-Man Part 1 and Part 2. In this latest run of episodes, titled Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors, Peter Parker will travel through various parallel worlds, eventually meeting Miles Morales, a half-black, half-hispanic counterpart who has assumed the role of Spider-Man.

Speaking with USA Today, Donald Glover had this to...

"Heroes Rise" Might be a Gateway Drug for "Ben 10"
The second volume of the Ben 10: Omniverse series, titled Heroes Rise, finds titular hero Ben Tennyson (Yuri Lowenthal) and sidekick Rook (Bumper Robinson) facing skilled predator Khyber (David Kaye) and his vicious greyhound, who possesses the same (yet opposite) powers that Ben has. (For those unfamiliar with the series, basically Ben has a nifty watch gizmo that transforms him into various alien lifeforms to help him combat evil in the Omniverse. The greyhound has a matching dog collar that turns him into the predators of Ben’s transformations.) With the help of more devious characters who lurk in the background (and in flashbacks), Khyber goes through the series hunting down Ben.

Comic-Con Is “Adventure Time”!
I have to admit, I’m woefully out of the loop when it comes to Adventure Time, but I know it’s one of the biggest things at every con, and of course, their presence will be heard, along with other folks from the Cartoon Network, at this summer’s Comic-Con. Read on for details on the panels and who’s coming, including nuggets on Teen Titans Go! and Beware The Batman.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Cartoon Network will once again offer the ultimate fan experience both on and off the convention floor. Taking center stage is an Adventure Time themed booth on the convention floor showcasing the Ice King’s iconic castle with an exclusive fan-centric photo opportunity. Fans again have the opportunity to collect exclusive Comic-Con giveaways including five different Adventure Time buttons.

Directly across the street from the Convention Center, Cartoon Network has joined...

Falcon Flies to the Rescue in Avengers Assemble
While I would much rather be reading new information regarding Joss Whedon’s Avengers sequel, I suppose I’m content learning new things about Disney Xd’s new animated series, Marvel’s Avengers Assemble. You can tell the series is taking a lot of cues from The Avengers film, what with the cast including Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow, the same super heroes we watched fight aliens in New York last summer. But Avengers Assemble has a whole lot more freedom to add more heroes from the Marvel universe and will do so early in the show’s run. Our first new member will be Falcon and, from the look of things, his first day isn’t an easy one.

According to THR, Bumper Robinson voices Falcon, beginning with the July 7 episode “Ghost of a Chance.” The video below gives you a brief preview of...

TV Spots for Marvel’S Avengers Assemble and Hulk And The Agents Of Smash Highlight the Differences
Disney Xd has released TV spots for its two new Marvel-based animated series, and it’s pretty clear that they will be rather different from each other in tone, if not in animation styles. While many of us mourn the passing of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, it’s time to check out the newest version of the assemblage:

TV Spot: Marvel’s Avengers Assemble – Coming July 7

And now for something (almost) completely different… While the Marvel’s Avengers Assemble marketing is heaving towards fans of the movie, you know they’re going for another thing entirely when the Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. spot starts out “What’s more fun than one Hulk? Five Hulks!” Let’s not forget, though that hulk features the voice of Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse, Angel) as She-Hulk. So there’s that.

Full Trailer for Marvel's Avengers Assemble
Ugh. Here's the full trailer for Marvel's new animated series Avengers Assemble, and it just looks like an all-around bad show. You can actually watch the first episode on iTunes for free by clicking here. I wasn't able to sit through the whole thing. I found it annoying. I'm not a big fan of the tone, dialogue, and poor animation. I'm not sure why they didn't use the same team that brought us Earth's Mightiest Heroes because that was a fun show. My kids even enjoyed watching it, but they didn't take to Avengers Assemble either. They lost interest faster than I did, so Marvel is obviously doing something wrong because it didn't hit with my little fan girls, and it didn't hit with me either.

An animated series parallel to the record-breaking blockbuster movie Marvel's The Avengers, "Avengers Assemble" sees Iron Man leading the team of mightiest heroes – Hulk,...
