Heroes (2006-2010): Gone But Not Forgotten
Tim Kring
When it premiered in 2006, Tim Kring’s Heroes was raved about and considered the next great piece of episodic genre TV. Many thought it would be the next Lost, and Hayden Panettiere (who’s back in a big way with Scream VI) became a star overnight. But, as soon as season 2 started, the show seemingly jumped the shark, and what began as a promising superhero epic became just another TV soap opera. What happened? Part of it had to do with the fact that Bryan Fuller, who consulted on Season One, left before the second season, while the second season also coincided with the WGA Writer’s Strike, which spelled the doom for many shows. While Heroes would continue for another few seasons, viewership died off, and many felt that the show never lived up to the considerable promise of the first season.

In this episode of Gone But Not Forgotten,...

Ali Larter Responds to Fired Heroes Co-Star's Allegations: 'I Am Truly Sorry'
Ali Larter
Ali Larter is speaking out.

The Heroes star issued an apology on Wednesday after her former co-star Leonard Roberts came forward with allegations of mistreatment on the show, which he says led to his dismissal from the NBC drama.

In a statement to TV Line, Larter said the following:

“I am deeply saddened to hear about Leonard Roberts’ experience on Heroes and I am heartbroken reading his perception of our relationship, which absolutely doesn’t match my memory nor experience on the show," she told the outlet.

"I respect Leonard as an artist and I applaud him or anyone using their voice and platform. I am truly sorry for any role I may have played in his painful experience during that time and I wish him and his family the very best.”

Roberts penned an essay for Variety, which went public earlier on Wednesday, which found Roberts recalling his experience of working on the show.

Ali Larter Apologizes to ‘Heroes’ Co-Star Leonard Roberts After Accusations of Mistreatment
Ali Larter
Ali Larter has apologized to her “Heroes” co-star Leonard Roberts after the actor penned an essay for Variety alleging on-set mistreatment by Larter.

“I am deeply saddened to hear about Leonard Roberts’ experience on ‘Heroes’ and I am heartbroken reading his perception of our relationship, which absolutely doesn’t match my memory nor experience on the show,” Larter said in a statement to TVLine. “I respect Leonard as an artist and I applaud him or anyone using their voice and platform. I am truly sorry for any role I may have played in his painful experience during that time and I wish him and his family the very best.”

Her apology comes hours after Variety published a lengthy essay by Roberts in which the actor said on- and off-set tension between him and Larter — who played a married couple on the NBC drama — led to his firing after the show’s first season.

Ali Larter Responds to Leonard Roberts’ Accusations: ‘I Am Truly Sorry’

Actor Ali Larter responded on Wednesday to the account by her “Heroes” co-star Leonard Roberts — who, in a first-person essay for Variety published earlier in the day, said Larter mistreated him while working on the first season of the hit NBC series, eventually leading to his dismissal from the show. Roberts believes the fact he’s Black affected that decision.

In a statement to Variety‘s sibling publication TVLine, Larter said: “I am deeply saddened to hear about Leonard Roberts’ experience on Heroes and I am heartbroken reading his perception of our relationship, which absolutely doesn’t match my memory nor experience on the show. I respect Leonard as an artist and I applaud him or anyone using their voice and platform. In response, the 44-year-old actress issued a public apology to her former co-star. Leonard Roberts Breaks Decade-Plus Silence on Heroes Firing, Says 'Tension' With On-Screen Love Interest Ali Larter Led to His 2007 Dismissal
Image
Former Heroes star Leonard Roberts says friction with on-screen love interest Ali Larter, coupled with a lack of diversity behind-the-scenes at NBC’s superhero smash, led to him being fired after just one season.

In a lengthy essay published by our sister pub Variety, the actor recounts the instant friction he experienced in Season 1 with Larter, who played Niki Sanders, the wife of his D.L. Hawkins character. “The script suggested D.L. and Niki had a volatile relationship — and it wasn’t long before art was imitating life,” Roberts writes, before describing two instances where the pair clashed. After one of the dustups,...

‘Heroes’ Was Supposed to Be Leonard Roberts’ Big Break. Instead, It Nearly Broke Him.

Leonard Roberts is best known for his roles in the movie “Drumline,” and on the television shows “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “American Crime Story,” “Major Crimes” — and for his performance as D.L. Hawkins on the first season of NBC’s “Heroes.” While the fantasy show debuted in 2006 to immediate blockbuster status, making overnight sensations of many of its stars — including Zachary Quinto, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panettiere — Roberts’ time on the show was far more troubled. As he details in his account below, he experienced immediate friction with his main co-star Ali Larter — and perceived indifference from creator and showrunner Tim Kring — that led him to feel singled out as a Black actor, a feeling that only grew more intense after he was fired from the show after its first season.

Variety corroborated Roberts’ account with 10 people who either worked on “Heroes” at the time or were...
