Heading into “Another Simple Favor,” there was a pretty major question to consider: why would Stephanie Smothers ever agree to do another favor for Emily Nelson? And now that the film is out, the new question is: could it be Emily’s turn?

Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s legal drama has been no secret since news broke of the suit that Lively filed against her It Ends with Usco-star and director in late December 2024. A new trailer for Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick’s black comedy Another Simple Favor shows the frenemies traveling to a wedding in Capri, Italy, where they get sucked into another mysterious web of murder and betrayal. Bridesmaids and Ghostbusters director Paul Feig has reteamed with his A Simple Favor stars Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick for the sequel Another Simple Favor, which is set to be released through the Prime Video streaming service on May 1st. With the premiere date just two weeks (and a few days) away, a new trailer has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.

In addition to Lively and Kendrick, Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, and Kelly McCormack all reprise their roles from the first movie. Another Simple Favor is Blake Lively's first film following the It Ends With Us legal drama, which is still ongoing. The movie was a sequel to the commercially successful 2018 mystery A Simple Favor, reuniting Lively with Anna Kendrick and Paul Feig.

While the film had encouraging reviews following its world premiere at the 2025 South by Southwest Film Festival, Lively can't escape controversial projects. On Mar. 13, Oscar-nominated actress Sharon Stone alleged in a comment on social media that she was cast and then removed from the sequel "for no reason at all." The director hasn't responded to the claims, but a source told People that Stone was "never cast" in the film.

"I Loved being cast and removed from my role unexpectedly for no reason at all Loved it," Stone wrote in the comment section of an E! News Instagram post feeding into the feud rumors between Lively and her co-star Anna Kendrick.

There is news and drama involving Another Simple Favor that has nothing to do with Blake Lively, and it's pretty nice to get a bit of a break. This latest headline regarding the sequel, which just had its premiere at SXSW, is a little strange, however, because it's completely relying on the word on one side of this party, at least for now. Director Paul Feig’s sequel film stars Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, reprising their roles from 2018’s “A Simple Favor.” However, Stone claims she, too, was part of the ensemble cast.

“I Loved being cast and removed from my role unexpectedly for no reason at all Loved it,” Stone wrote to an E! News Instagram reel about the film. Stone was in talks for the role that later went to Elizabeth Perkins. A source close to production confirmed that Stone was never actually cast in the film; the deal did not go through due to budget issues. IndieWire has additionally reached out to representatives for Amazon MGM Studios and Stone.

The rest of the ensemble includes Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Michele Morrone, Alex Newell, Elena Sofia Ricci, Henry Golding, and Allison Janney.

Our Chris Bumbray was present at its screening and thought it was pretty fun, though not as good as the original as he said in his review, “It’s absolutely watchable, if not a patch on the surprisingly rock-solid original. It should prove to be a big streaming hit for Prime Video, and while it’s not a movie that cried out to be made, taken as a lark, it’s good fun.”

Igsf is billed as a new incarnation of the Roma Fiction Festival, which ran for 10 years until 2016. It is headed by festival director Marco Spagnoli, an Italian film and TV critic.
