Marvel’s latest movie Thunderbolts* has officially introduced a new chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film brings together a group of unlikely characters and puts them on a risky mission, forcing them to rely on each other. But beyond the team-up, it also plants seeds for major future events in the MCU.
One of the most important changes is the formation of a new team, now called The New Avengers. This new lineup marks a shift away from the original Avengers, suggesting a fresh direction with new leaders and different kinds of heroes.
The movie also gives more depth to characters who were once seen as questionable. John Walker (U.S. Agent) and Ghost, for example, are no longer just side characters with unclear motives. The film gives them more personality and growth, helping audiences better understand where they stand.

Marvel Studios’ latest installment, Thunderbolts*, marks a major turning point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film accomplishes several key objectives that set the stage for future developments, both narratively and within the growing roster of heroes.
First and foremost, Thunderbolts introduces a brand-new team now officially known as The New Avengers. This signals a major shift in the MCU’s team dynamics and hints at a new generation of heroes poised to take the mantle from the original Avengers.
Secondly, the film successfully redeems several morally ambiguous characters. Figures like John Walker (U.S. Agent) and Ghost, who have previously straddled the line between hero and antihero, are given more nuanced portrayals.
Their arcs in Thunderbolts* humanize them and provide meaningful character development. The film also elevates Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, establishing her as a serious and dangerous power player within the MCU’s political and covert landscape.

Do you remember when you were a kid and argued on the playground that your dad was better and stronger than another kid's dad? Of course, nowadays, these juvenile bouts of whose dad is stronger likely happen across social media or a multiplayer video game. This innate desire to be the best and to be on the best team is a common reference point we humans tend to revisit from childhood into adulthood.
Given the MCU recent theatrical release of the Thunderbolts*, I had that urge again to compare who (i.e. which team) is better and stronger: The Thunderbolts or The Sucicide Squad?
The members of Thunderbolts are comprised of a kaleidoscope of quasi-criminals and anti-heroes who were coerced in as much as they were manipulated (by a morally compromised S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent – Valentina Allegra de Fontaine) to work together for a common clandestine goal.

The BBC is reporting that Marvel Studios is looking to construct another Avengers: Doomsday set in the UK, this time on the Bracknell Forest side of the Windsor border in the neighbouring Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
Marvel Studios is seeking a 10-week planning permission (between July 14 and September 20), giving them time to construct and deconstruct the set, which is described as "a house with pavement and road markings." Filming would take place for only one day in August.
Yes, 10 weeks of work for one day of shooting. That must make this a crucial location for Avengers: Doomsday, and the planning application confirms that this is Annie Reynolds' house. It will be constructed on Prince Consort's Drive, near the Windsor Great Park Environmental Centre.
Actress Molly Carden played Annie Reynolds, the mother of Robert Reynolds, in Thunderbolts*. While it's possible Marvel Studios is using codenames, this seems to suggest...

Spaceballs 2is keeping it in the family when it comes to its cast. The latest news to surface suggests that Lewis Pullman is in talks to join the highly anticipated sequel, starring alongside his father, Bill Pullman, who is reprising his role as Lone Starr. The Thunderbolts* actor is looking to board the winged Winnebago piloted by Starr to reportedly play a character named Starburst. He is the son of Starr (Pullman) and Queen Vespa (Daphne Zuniga), so there is every chance Starr will be the one saying "I am your father," not Dark Helmet.
Never fear, Dark Helmet will be back wielding the Downside of the Schwartz as Rick Moranis is said to be coming out of retirement to reprise his role as the short-statured sinister one. Mel Brooks is also back as Yogurt, the beloved parody of Yoda, who will no doubt be dishing out his wisdom to all who will listen.

After appearing in the massively popular legacy sequel "Top Gun: Maverick" in 2022 as Lt. Robert "Bob" Floyd and before he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Robert Reynolds, also known as Sentry, in "Thunderbolts*," Lewis Pullman played Brie Larson's love interest. Yes, you read that right — Sentry and Captain Marvel were romantically involved in an Apple TV+ series titled "Lessons in Chemistry."
In the miniseries based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Bonnie Garmus, Pullman portrays Calvin Evans, a brilliant scientist working at the Hastings Research Institute in California. On July 11, DC loyalists, enthusiasts, and even a few haters will rush to local theaters to witness the official cinematic debut of the James Gunn/Peter Safran DC Studios—Superman is finally here!
Everyone familiar with the Last Son of Krypton understands his indomitable power, overwhelming zeal to defend the helpless, and nearly undefeated record. Since 1938, when two sons of Jewish immigrants from Ohio got together to discuss a "super" idea, (who would become arguably the most famous DC Comics superhero of all time) Marvel Comics has been creating Superman knock-offs.
To be fair, Marvel and DC "borrow" from each other constantly. One has the original, and the other breaks out in song: "Whatever you can do, I can do better; I can do anything better than you." When it comes to Superman, that chorus has come over and over again. And while Marvel hasn't equaled the mythos that Jerry Shuster...

Thunderbolts* concept art continues to find its way online, and we now have the cover for the movie's "Art of" book, along with a couple more alternate takes on The Sentry costume worn by Lewis Pullman's "Bob."
These early designs were illustrated by Constantine Sekeris and are quite a bit different from both the comics and what we saw in the movie itself. Ultimately, Marvel Studios went for a comic-accurate design, albeit with the expected MCU flair.
Sekeris' take leans more into the darkness within Robert Reynolds, and would have been interesting to see on screen once The Void emerged. The Sentry's costume in Thunderbolts* was designed by O.X.E. and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, so he may look very different again when we next see him.

Over the weekend, a fan managed to break into the Avengers: Doomsday set and shared footage of the cast's trailers and a Madripoor set.
Now, the leaker has taken to Instagram to share a map showcasing the "Annie Reynolds House" at an undisclosed London location. Most interesting is the fact that the house is labelled with "Void Space."
Actress Molly Carden played Annie Reynolds, the mother of Robert Reynolds, in Thunderbolts*. While it's possible Marvel Studios is using codenames, this seems to suggest that Bob/The Sentry will return to The Void and confront his mother.

After his introduction in Thunderbolts*, the MCU may have a new most-powerful hero in Sentry. Lewis Pullman's Robert Reynolds made his MCU debut in Thunderbolts*, where fans got to know a super-soldier known as Sentry, but also an incredibly dangerous alter-ego named the Void.
The Multiverse Saga (every MCU movie since Avengers: Endgame) has added a plethora of powerful Marvel characters. From Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) in Guardians of the Galaxy, to Red Hulk (Harrison Ford) in Captain America: Brave New World, to even G'iah (Emilia Clarke) in Secret Invasion, our Marvel heroes are the strongest they have ever been!
Based on what was revealed about Sentry in Thunderbolts*, as well as how his powers were displayed throughout the film, it is indisputable that Sentry is one of the most powerful heroes in the entire MCU. In fact, he could be at the top of that list.

After starting the year with the disastrous "Captain America: Brave New World," Marvel Studios has earned itself a surprise win with "Thunderbolts*." Placing the future of the "Avengers" namesake on a collective of rogue antiheroes from across the film and television spectrums of the Marvel Cinematic Universe turned out to be a great bet after all. That's largely because director Jake Schreier was given room to tell a singular story that provides a compelling reason why all of these traumatized characters would learn to confide in one another, especially in the face of an overwhelming threat like the Sentry.
Part of what makes the film's central antagonist so impactful is how Lewis Pullman's performance evolves over the course of the film. When he enters the movie, he's simply a guy named Bob -- or Robert Reynolds, if you want to be specific. No one really knows why he's there,...

Marvel’s Golden Guardian of Good and DC’s Man of Steel have a lot in common at face value—they are both considered amongst the strongest beings in their respective universes, they both sport an iconic ‘S’ symbol on their costumes, and one is a clear analog of the other.
As is often the case with Superman analogs, fans have been wondering how The Sentry is going to stack up against Superman, given Lewis Pullman’s brilliant performance in Thunderbolts*. Like Son Goku, Homelander, and Omni-Man before him, fans are now wondering what a clash between these two characters would look like. Given the rich history that both characters have in the comics, Superman and The Sentry might be as worthy as opponents get in match-ups like this.

Lewis Pullman has been in Hollywood for more than a decade now, but the fame he is currently garnering with his iconic performance in Thunderbolts* is actually unparalleled. At the very least, his portrayal of Sentry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is being so widely loved by fans that even fans are sure he is about to be on the receiving end of a skyrocketing career and stardom.
Surprisingly enough, there was a time before this entire prospect of him joining the MCU when Pullman almost joined Sony’s Spider-Man universe. What’s even more stunning is that this was through what turned out to be the franchise’s lowest-grossing movie, despite the lead’s outstanding performance: Kraven the Hunter. And now, fans are celebrating that it didn’t pan out for him.

The world just saw Lewis Pullman crush it as Robert Reynolds, aka Sentry, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s recent installment, Thunderbolts* (The New Avengers). Lewis is no stranger to the spotlight, being the son of acting legend Bill Pullman. However, he has made his own path with his performances in indie gems and blockbuster hits.
He started his career with short films, Westerns, and horrors, and one thing that can be said about his filmography is that the actor has got range. Lewis has brought a sort of quiet charisma and intensity to most of his roles, and if you have liked the way he portrayed Bob/Sentry/Void in Thunderbolts*, here are 10 of his movies that also deserve your attention.

When Marvel Studios officially announced Thunderbolts* for a 2024 release date (thereafter delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes), the audience’s reaction was alarmingly similar to what the in-film characters face. After all, who would trust a ragtag group of antiheroes, clearly traumatized by their pasts, to save anything—be it the world or the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
But the Florence Pugh-led team of sidelined MCU characters pulls through, and how.
Most of these characters were introduced when the Original Avengers were still around, and their identities largely revolved around them. Sebastian Stan’s James “Bucky” Barnes probably had the most limelight of them all, being the notorious Winter Soldier and being an inadvertent cause of the Civil War. But he was lumped with Steve Rogers’ story, just like Pugh’s Yelena Belova was Natasha Romanoff’s (Scarlett Johansson) sister.

Whenever Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) arrives in the MCU, he will face not just one but two teams of Avengers, but also the Fantastic Four (who appeared in the "Thunderbolts" post-credit scenes). Taking on so many heroes at the same time is nothing new for this guy, though. In the comics, Victor Von Doom is a man of genius intellect with a mastery of magic, making him one of the most formidable adversaries that the McU's finest may have ever faced. However, that shouldn't be the biggest concern. Even with his impressive arsenal, Doom's most dangerous weapon may not be of his own making, but one that is actually on our side. Sure, spells and science will certainly cause some issues, but following the events of "Thunderbolts*" and key events in Marvel comics history, we must ask – what about Bob?

The character appeared for the first time in 2000 in The Sentry #1, and was created by Jenkins, with art by Jae Lee. Although his full name is Robert Reynolds, the character goes by Bob in Thunderbolts*. Sentry...

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Thunderbolts*A Marvel fan illustrates what a Thunderbolts* and Moon Knight crossover could look like if Lewis Pullman's Robert Reynolds and Oscar Isaac's Steven Grant met in the MCU. Thunderbolts* drops a few subtle references at previous MCU titles, but the biggest nod to other MCU characters comes in Thunderbolts*' post-credits scene, which reveals that the New Avengers are being sued by Sam Wilson's official Avengers team. The New Avengers are set to cross paths with other heroes sooner rather than later, as they're all confirmed to return in Avengers: Doomsday.

The MCU is now back with another film, Thunderbolts*. The movie is a team-up of multiple fan-favorite characters, with Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes/ The Winter Soldier making yet another return, and teaming up with other characters from Black Widow, The Falcon the Winter Soldier, and Ant-Man and the Wasp.
However, Thunderbolts* also introduced a new character to the MCU: Sentry. Played by Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick), the character joined the group of anti-heroes in his film debut. The superhero/ supervillain appeared for the first time in 2000 in The Sentry #1, and was created by Paul Jenkins, with art by Jae Lee. In a new exclusive interview with Cbr, Jenkins shared his honest review of Pullman's performance.

This weekend, an all-new team of Marvel misfits is going to be teaming up (as much as some might be reluctant to the idea) to form the "Thunderbolts*" and the chances of them ripping the MCU a new one are pretty high. Comprised of assassins, thieves, and former sleeper agents, they're certainly a force to be reckoned with. Well, besides Bob, maybe.
One character that the lead-up to the film's release has only briefly alluded to is Bob/Robert Reynolds, also known as The Sentry. Designed to fill the gap left by The Avengers, who haven't assembled since the events of "Avengers: Endgame," The Sentry is the superforce that goes out of control, leaving the titular team to get together and try to stop him. But just what kind of force are they going up against, and how much of The Sentry's original power set from the comics is making its way into the MCU?...

One of the major criticisms usually directed towards the MCU is the way the franchise handles its iconic overpowered characters. Right from Hulk, Gorr the God Butcher, Adam Warlock, and Ultron—every major figure of the Marvel mythos whom fans know as notable powerhouses—were either nerfed due to poor writing or didn’t get the chance to shine. Fortunately, that didn’t happen with arguably the strongest, and also the most troubled, supe of Marvel, Sentry, and his alter ego, supervillain Void, who made their live-action debut in the recently released Thunderbolts. Although MCU’s version of the character somewhat differs from his comics counterpart, the writers respected the core of Sentry’s lore and kept his portrayal true to the source material. With Phase Five ending and the multiversal crossover event, Avengers: Doomsday, only a year away, it goes beyond saying that Sentry/Void is going to play...

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for "Thunderbolts*." Proceed with caution.
Maybe it was only fitting that the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first movie starring a bunch of antiheroes, antagonists, and outright superhero rejects would be the one to remember how to craft a proper villain. "Thunderbolts*" isn't the flashiest movie in the franchise to come around in recent years, nor is it even the biggest one in 2025 alone -- that title goes to "The Fantastic Four: First Steps," to be released later this summer. But director Jake Schreier's scrappy little underdog movie (if that phrase can even apply to a blockbuster that's an unapologetic part of the Marvel machine) does take its tonal cues from the dysfunctional team in its asterisk-laden title. And not even these wannabe Avengers could have anticipated what kind of threat they'd be forced to go up against throughout the movie.

When Marvel’s strongest heroes clash, it’s never just about who can punch harder; it’s about who breaks first. And no showdown embodies that better than the explosive face-off between Sentry and the Hulk during World War Hulk. On one side, you’ve got the Hulk, angrier than ever, and on a revenge mission that no Avenger can stop. On the other hand is the Sentry, Marvel’s unstable golden god with the power of “a million exploding suns”… and a dark side that makes even villains nervous.
This wasn’t your average comic book brawl. It was emotional, messy, and apocalyptic in scale. But here’s the thing: this fight wasn’t just physical—it was personal. Two of Marvel’s most powerful forces go head-to-head in a battle that shook not only buildings, but the very foundations of who they are.
So what happens when unlimited rage meets unlimited power?...

Robert Reynolds, better known as The Sentry, is quite possibly the definition of overpowered in the Marvel Universe. With the power of a million exploding suns (how’s that for a LinkedIn skill?), this golden-haired powerhouse has been both humanity’s greatest defender and its most terrifying threat.
What makes Sentry such a fascinating character isn’t just his incredible power set, which includes super strength, flight, invulnerability, and energy manipulation, but the psychological complexity that comes with it. His split personality, particularly the malevolent Void entity, creates vulnerabilities that even his godlike abilities can’t always overcome.
Despite being able to tear Ares in half like a phone book (yikes!), several Avengers have managed to take down this powerhouse through various means. Let’s dive into three times when Earth’s Mightiest Heroes proved mightier than the Golden Guardian.

Brace yourselves, Marvel fans, Thunderbolts* is hitting the theaters on May 2, with Lewis Pullman appearing as Robert Reynolds. Do you know what this means? We’re in for a treat—Sentry and The Void, are both set to hit the screen. But guess what? The Void isn’t your average baddie with a flashy suit—this one’s got some seriously dark vibes.
So much so that director Jake Schreier recently spilled how a few of the scenes showcasing his powers are inspired by one of the most tragic real-life events in history—Hiroshima. During an interview with Collider, Schreier mentioned how the eerie shadows and haunting visuals from Hiroshima helped shape The Void’s look and feel.

We know, we already caught your attention, so let’s talk about the villain who’s not just scary—but historically haunting.

Thunderbolts* introduces the Sentry/The Void to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Lewis Pullman's all-powerful Golden Guardian comes face-to-face with the titular antiheroes. With Pullman taking over the role from Steven Yeun, Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier reflects on the casting change and whether it affected plans for the film and character.
Speaking with Fortress of Solitude, Schreier recalled when Yeun departed Thunderbolts*, leading to the casting of Top Gun: Maverick's Pullman as Sentry. Despite the change, Schreier claimed there were no significant alterations to the character's presentation or the Thunderbolts* screenplay, stating he and Pullman worked extensively to determine the best approach. “From a writing perspective, not a lot. How do you follow the Avengers? Simple, according to Marvel. Just put together a ragtag bunch of antiheroes culled from past franchise entries and turn them into a not-ready-for-primetime fighting team forced to save America and — presto! — you have the Thunderbolts — though with a, uh, asterisk in the title, which cheekily means the Avengers we know and love and miss just weren’t available for superheroics this time around.
Actually, by putting that “*” in the title, Marvel lets us instantly know they are in on the joke, but in giving these supporting players from past movies like Captain America: Civil War, Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania, Falcon & The Winter Soldier and most notably Black Widow, they have high hopes to develop something seen as much more than just a 99 Cents Only Store version of the crown jewel of the Marvel Universe. As such, this origin story of how the Thunderbolts...

The Sentry's comic book history is incredibly convoluted, and while fans have long hoped to see Robert Reynolds in the MCU, the character isn't necessarily the simplest to bring to the big screen.
He's an ex-drug addict, has a split personality, and the power of a million exploding suns...and he's about to take on Bucky Barnes and company in Thunderbolts*. Invincible star Steven Yeun was originally cast as the character, though scheduling issues led to him being replaced by Top Gun: Maverick's Lewis Pullman.
The trailers have confirmed that "Bob" will be depicted in both his Sentry and Void forms. Looking to the future, the character is bound to be a game-changer when the Multiverse's Mightiest Heroes assemble to battle Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday (Pullman is among those confirmed for the movie).

Sentry, a.k.a. Robert Reynolds, a.k.a. Bob, is set to make his MCU debut with Thunderbolts* releasing next month. The trailers for the film have hinted at Bob’s Void personality, confirming that Sentry will be a part of the upcoming film. The Thunderbolts consist mostly of powerless heroes, which is funny considering how powerful Sentry is in the comics.
The anti-hero is known for his incredibly powerful superpowers, which are often compared to Superman’s. While Bob is not that bad of a guy, his hidden personality, i.e., the Void, can take control of him and make him do dark things. Coupled with his insane powers, he has the capacity to vanquish any threat, except one Avenger.

Avengers: Doomsdayis still over a year away from its theatrical release. But that hasn't stopped the McU's newly minted Captain America from sharing some exciting news about the film.

A popular Thunderbolts*theory states that Geraldine Viswanathan's character, Mel, is actually Melissa Gold, a vocally enhanced vigilante who goes by the name Songbird. Now, a newly released promotional clip for the film seems to have confirmed it.

Marvel Studios’ upcoming release Thunderbolts* has been subjected to widespread speculation since Sentry was confirmed to appear in the film. The promos have confirmed that the antihero team will have a major conflict with The Void- the dark entity within Sentry.
While the introduction of Sentry to the MCU seems very exciting, everybody, including me, has a significant question: how can a bunch of super soldiers, a black widow, and some minor villains defeat such a menacing force? However, a brand new teaser from the film has brought an interesting theory to my mind that can answer some pivotal questions.

Marvel Studios has gone to great lengths to keep Lewis Pullman's Sentry under wraps, but with Thunderbolts* merchandise starting to reach stores, the Golden Guardian has been "unmasked," so to speak.
Today, we have some new high-resolution shots of Hasbo's take on the "Marvel Legends" Sentry. That costume is very much in line with what we've come to expect from the MCU; while it's a little overdesigned and busy, Robert Reynolds should look great standing tall alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Doomsday.
New Thunderbolts* figures for Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell) have also been revealed, showcasing their respective costumes. We'd imagine Hot Toys will be next to showcase their take on these characters.

The Thunderbolts*movie is poised to reintroduce a litany of fan-favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. Sebastian Stan returns as Bucky Barnes, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, and Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost. Even Olga Kurylenko will reprise her role as the heavily criticized Taskmaster in an attempt to revitalize the character. The team should be brought together by Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who is serving as the next Nick Fury for this new era of the MCU. Yet, while many old faces will be reappearing, there is one brand-new character who will be debuting in this movie.

A full look at Sentry's costume in Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts* has finally been revealed. However, it wasn't Marvel who was behind the costume reveal, with that honor instead going to the movie's Funko Pop! line of collectibles.
The first look at the Thunderbolts* Funko Pop! figures was shared by Funk Pop News! on X and feature John F. Walker, Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, Bucky Barnes, and Sentry, who will be portrayed by Wyatt Russell, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan, and Lewis Pullman, respectively, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. The Sentry costume shown in the Pop! figure is fairly comics-accurate, although way more stylized, a design decision that some comic book fans have openly spoken out against during suit reveals for past MCU projects. Check out the Thunderbolts* Pop! figures below.

The Super Bowl trailer for Thunderbolts* established The Void as the movie's big bad and offered only a glimpse at his "heroic" side, The Sentry. Their comic book history is complicated but all signs point to Bob embracing his darker impulses courtesy of a push from Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
Marvel Studios has been keeping The Sentry's costume under wraps, though the movie's IMAX sneak peek at least confirmed he'll don the classic yellow and blue design (though the former colour looks a little more gold here).
Thanks to a new Funko Pop, we finally have a full look at Lewis Pullman's Sentry and his comic-accurate costume. As expected, the "S" logo - first spotted in one of Thunderbolts*'s earlier trailers - is a tad overdesigned but the McU's take on this complicated character otherwise looks like he's stepped straight off the page.
These Pops reportedly go on sale tomorrow,...

We met "Bob" twice in two Thunderbolts* trailers. While many Marvel Comics fans know a handful of anecdotes about Robert Reynolds, we know even less about "The Sentry."
And then, there's "The Void," which, if most fans are honest, is still a mystery.
If this makes sense, The Sentry is a persona from deep within Bob, thanks to the Golden Sentry Serum mutating his genetic code to something remarkably closer to Kryptonian. Yet, The Void is a persona of The Sentry, not Robert Reynolds. And it is one of the most malevolent forces in the known universe.
Villains are bad. Some are fierce. But The Void is no holds barred evil and he stops at nothing to protect The Sentry. Marvel defines this halfway split like this: "The Void believes he is integral to the Sentry's survival. As the Sentry's power hinges on his emotions, any individual could crush him...
