'I Love That Show': Kim Basinger Reacts to Her Traumatic Experience Inspiring Schitt's Creek
Image
In 2015, father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy created the sitcom Schitt's Creek. As the creators later revealed, the sitcom was based on Kim Basinger's real story.

In the '80s, Basinger purchased a small town in Georgia for $20 million in a move that would create a tourist attraction and a production hub. Unfortunately, that didn't work well in her favor, as the actress reportedly sold it five years later for $1 million after her plan failed, which created a rift with some family members who were part of the business plan. In a new interview with Variety, Basinger reacted to the fact that her story was the inspiration for Schitt's Creek.

Murder In A Small Town Finale Cheapens Karl & Cass' Romance (But It Didn't Have A Choice)
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Murder in a Small Town season 1, episode 8, "Sleep While I Sing."Murder in a Small Town delivers a lovely romance between its leading Karl Alberg and Cassandra Lee characters, but the series cheapened the love story in the season finale. That being said, the Fox mystery series didn't have much choice if it wanted to wrap things up nicely, regardless of what comes of season 2. Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk play the leading love birds. Additionally, Murder in a Small Town broke an overused network romance TV trope by allowing Karl and Cass to dive into their relationship head-first in the pilot of the eight-episode season.

Still, it wouldn't be network TV or a proper romance without a bit of conflict. After experiencing doubts about his role as a law enforcement officer, Cassandra's worries come to a head when Gordon Murphy (Devon Sawa) abducts...

Murder In A Small Town Season 2 Gets A Detailed Story Update From EP
Image
Warning: Major Spoilers ahead for the Murder in a Small Town season 1 finale!Murder in a Small Town executive producer Jeff Wachtel offers a detailed story update for season 2, explaining the direction the story will take. Murder in a Small Town episode 8, the season 1 finale, revealed the show's serial killer was Tommy Cummins (Noah Reid), an art teacher who, in the final episode, started posing his victims like artistic portraits. While he almost murders Devon (Alisha Newton), Karl (Rossif Sutherland) arrives in time to save her. Tommy is arrested, ending the season with him in custody.

Speaking with TV Insider, Wachtel explained that Murder in a Small Town season 2 would begin focusing more on individual character stories, specifically listing Karl's job, Cassandra's (Kristen Kruek) past, Sid's (Aaron Douglas) family, and the careers of Isabella (Savonna Spracklin) and Edwina (Mya Lowe). Fox’s ‘Murder in a Small Town’ Leaves Fans Hoping for Second Season
Kristin Kreuk and Rossif Sutherland in Murder in a Small Town (2024)
Fox’s new crime thriller, “Murder in a Small Town,” wrapped up its first season with a thrilling ending, and fans and network executives are discussing a possible second season. The season-ending episode not only concluded the central murder case but also reunited its main characters in an unexpected twist.

Executive Producer Jeff Wachtel noted that the conclusion, titled “Sleep While I Sing,” skillfully balanced the show’s crime story with the delicate relationship between Detective Alberg (Rossif Sutherland) and Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk). The episode saw the couple reconnecting after a difficult season, with Alberg publicly declaring his dedication to their relationship.

“We looked at every possibility for their story,” Wachtel added. “Cassandra was clear about her hesitation to date a police officer, which made their reunion even more meaningful.”

The finale effectively concluded the season’s serial killer narrative featuring Tommy Cummins (Noah Reid) while laying the groundwork for future developments.

Spoiler Alert for Murder in a Small Town season 1, episode 8, "Sleep While I Sing"

This article discusses substance use.

Fox's Murder in a Small Town mystery series' season finale has big moments that set up the potential for season 2. Season 1 laid a solid foundation for how Rossif Sutherland's Karl Alberg operates as the Gibsons Chief of Police and how Kristin Kreuk's local librarian, Cassandra Lee, informally assists with his investigations. In the Murder in a Small Town season 1 finale, the Gibsons police force continues investigating a serial killer. The town collectively panics with a criminal on the loose, with hushed conversations taking place around Gibsons. In Murder in a Small Town...

‘Murder in a Small Town’ EP on That Serial Killer Finale & What’s Ahead in Season 2
Image
[Warning: The following post contains Major spoilers for Murder in a Small Town‘s Season 1 finale, “Sleep While I Sing.”] The season finale of Murder in a Small Town ramped up the kill count by dozens as a serial killer took over town with his very twisted Mo: posing and then painting the victims as morbid renaissance-style portraits. The person responsible for potentially dozens of untimely demises? Why, it’s Tommy Cummins, the unassuming art teacher played by Schitt’s Creek star Noah Reid. Executive producer Jeff Wachtel told TV Insider that after they were able to nab James Cromwell for the pilot (taking over a role once intended for Donald Sutherland), the creatives shot for the stars with their guest star wish list, recruiting the likes of Stana Katic, Devon Sawa, and more. What made Reid so right for this nefarious role — the first and only mass murderer of the season — was his well-earned wholesome beau reputation. “Ian [Weir,...

Image
The Murder in a Small Town Season 1 finale is on Tuesday, and Karl and his team are determined to catch the demented serial killer who carved and posed those poor women.

The weekly promo and spoiler photos for Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 8 suggest that Devon and Holly may be his next victims if the Gibsons police department doesn’t catch him quickly.

It will be a high-stakes case as they try to identify Jane Doe and protect their own from someone who has them fooled.

(Kailey Schwerman/ Fox) Is Mr. Cummins a Mentor or a Predator?

Were Karl’s instincts wrong? Sid warned him about using an unknown civilian, and even creepy Jesse sensed something was off with the art teacher. Were they right?

Tommy Cummins took an interest in Devon, which I assumed was because she’s an aspiring young artist.

There are only two episodes left of Murder in a Small Town Season 1.

The final two episodes are the season finale, and the spoilers for Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 7 suggest a high-stakes murder is in play.

This is the second episode without source material, but the final episode is from one of L. R. Wright’s novels, so they’re probably related.

(Kailey Schwerman/ Fox) The Team Finds a Body in the Forest

There is something eerie and frightening about finding a dead woman in the forest. To make matters worse, she had flowers placed around her.

This suggested that someone cared enough to redress the body and pose the victim. While the set-up initially reminded me of a demented fairytale, it was very sick and violent instead.

The weekly promo almost suggests the victims were hung from a tree and attacked. That piercing scream haunts me.

8 TV Seasons That Earned Their 100% Rotten Tomatoes Scores
Image
There are only a few seasons of TV which boast a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, but they're worthy of this honor. Due to the quirks of the Rotten Tomatoes review aggregation system, a single negative review can rob a show of a 100% score. There are many critically-acclaimed seasons of TV that fall short of full marks, and relatively few which have achieved this rare feat over the years.

Some shows have multiple seasons with 100% scores, like The Wire, The Good Place and BoJack Horseman, but these are exceptions to the norm. Most shows can count themselves lucky to have just one season that achieves this level of success. Many great shows have been unable to claim this specific honor, so it's worth celebrating when a show delivers a season of TV that is unanimously praised by critics.

“Murder in a Small Town” is part romance, part crime procedural and all kinds of small-town cozy in between. Starring Kristin Kreuk (“Smallville”) and Rossif Sutherland (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), the new Fox drama transports viewers to the quiet coastal Canadian town of Gibsons and feels like the TV-ification of the “cozy mystery” trend that’s been so popular in online book communities in recent years.

10 TV Couples Who Surprisingly Don't End Up Together
Image
Fans often get their own ideas about which TV couples are supposed to end up together, so it can be a big surprise when things don't turn out the way people anticipated. Some couples who seem perfect for each other just can't figure things out in the end, as the writers have other ideas. This can be disappointing for fans, but there are also some cases where a failed relationship makes way for something even better.

Just as there are some TV couples who should break up for good, there are just as many instances of shows splitting up perfectly good couples. With the benefit of hindsight, fans can decide for themselves whether the characters really got their happy endings, or whether the writers forced them into a conclusion which doesn't quite fit. Even though these TV couples didn't last, they are often more popular than what came next.

10 TV Shows That Became Way Bigger Than I Ever Thought They Would
Image
Several TV shows, like Schitt's Creek, Succession, and Rick and Morty, exceeded expectations to become major hits in popular culture. Schitt's Creek, initially underestimated, steadily built up an audience and swept major awards in its final season, surpassing all expectations. The unpredictability of TV success is evident in shows like The Bear and Baby Reindeer, which gained unexpected popularity and critical acclaim.

Plenty of TV shows in recent years have far exceeded my expectations for how popular they would become. While lots of these shows were favorites of mine that I had hoped would succeed, Ive been continually shocked at just how much particular series have become entrenched in popular culture. In contrast, other high-quality series were doomed to irrelevance. Its always interesting to try and predict which TV shows will become insanely popular. Still, its even more exciting to witness the ones that became way bigger than I ever expected.

Outer Range cancelled after two seasons at Amazon
Image
Outer Range, the sci-fi drama series our own Alex Maidy called the weirdest show you’re not watching, has been cancelled after two seasons. With so many TV shows out there, it’s always a shame when a good show slips through the cracks, which feels like what has happened with Outer Range.

The series stars Josh Brolin as Royal Abbott, a rancher fighting for his territory and family at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness who must grapple with the unknown after discovering an unfathomable mystery on his land in the form of a dark void. One by one, the shows that challenge expectations and entertain beyond lame drama are taking their leave, and we don't like it one bit.

Outer Range Season 1 was released episodically, which allowed fans to ponder the mystery, discuss theories, and enjoy the slow reveal of its many layers.

For Outer Range Season 2, Prime Video chose the drop-all-at-once route.

While that's great for binge-watchers, it does nothing for those who love chatting and theorizing about their favorite shows.

It also fails to keep viewers around for the longer term.

The 2024 ACM Awards Were Cute, Feel-Good, and (Mostly) Predictable
Image
Going into the 2024 ACM Awards, you didn’t have to be clairvoyant to nail some key predictions. Host Reba McEntire was sure to be both corny and unflappable, Lainey Wilson was a lock to win Entertainer of the Year, and country interloper Post Malone, scruffy and face-tattooed, was going to charm the pants off everyone.

That all of that happened isn’t a bad thing. In fact, there was something especially comforting about the predictability of this year’s ACMs, held for a second year in a row at the...

Reid said he was nervous presenting at the show, so McBryde pulled out a ukulele and launched into a version of Parker McCollum’s “Burn It Down,” this time about Reid being new in town.
