Amanda Redman

Trivia

Amanda Redman

Edit
  • Badly scarred on her upper left arm (as well as over the less visible parts of her body) as a result of scalding herself with a cauldron of boiling soup when she was 18 months old. She spent almost all the time from then until the age of five in the burns unit of a hospital, having plastic surgery by a surgeon who had previously been trained by Archibald McIndoe, the pioneering surgeon who treated WWII pilots who had suffered severe burns in plane crashes.
  • Teaches drama on Saturdays at Ealing Studios to age groups from 5 years to adult.
  • She was awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2012 Queen's Birthday Honours List for her services to Drama and to Charity. She is the Actress and Founder of the Artists' Theatre School.
  • She turned down the role of Elsa in Indiana Jones et la Dernière Croisade (1989) because of her fear of rats.
  • Had an affair with actor Dennis Waterman in 1983.
  • Daughter Emily Glenister - also an actress - born 1987, from marriage to Robert Glenister.
  • Trained Bristol Old Vic Drama School leaving about 1978.
  • In 2008 and 2009 she referred in various newspaper and magazine interviews to her imminent 50th birthday, until the Daily Mail printed an article on 10 August 2009 that showed she was already 52, having been born in 1957.
  • Several sources have claimed she is the niece of actress Joyce Redman, but this does not seem likely as research shows no immediate familial connections between Joyce (who had 3 sisters and no brothers) and Amanda's father, Ronald Redman (1929-1980).
  • London, England: Actress and teacher (June 2012)
  • Ex-sister-in-law of Philip Glenister.
