The daughter of a missionary in Japan, Margaret was educated at Oxford High School and Lady Margaret Hall, also in Oxford. She began her career with the Macdona Players, Bernard Shaw Rep., then Little Theatre, London and New York. She played many outstanding roles in West End and New York theatre.
