‘Blue Bloods’ Star Donnie Wahlberg Teases Surprises in ‘Boston Blue’ Premiere
Image
Donnie Wahlberg is setting the bar high for Boston Blue’s debut episode — and he’s not afraid to get sentimental in the process. Speaking in a new interview, the actor opened up about filming a scene that may tug at longtime fans’ heartstrings and hinted at some jaw-dropping moments in the premiere.

“The best part about the clip is that the family and friends in the clip put a Red Sox jersey on Danny at the end of the scene… it was really sweet and really fun, and it did pain me. But I loved every second of filming the scene because I knew the end was going to be worth the torture that I had to go through,” Wahlberg said, joking about the discomfort of wearing the jersey while recalling the warmth of the moment.

Danny & Baez's Worrying Romance Status In Boston Blue Gets A Surprise Update From Donnie Wahlberg
Image
Although Marisa Ramirez isn't in the Boston Blue cast, that doesn't mean her character, Maria Baez, won't appear in the show, especially after Donnie Wahlberg's comments concerning Baez's whereabouts. As many know, Baez and Wahlberg's character, Danny Reagan, had a will-they/won't-they situation going on in Blue Bloods. Then, the CBS series ended with Danny asking Baez out.

The official Boston BlueInstagram page posted a video of Wahlberg teasing the show and revealing the Blue Bloods spinoff's release date. While the video itself didn't mention Baez, Wahlberg responded to a comment on the post mentioning his former onscreen partner. It read, "So I guess Danny didn’t end up with Baez?" The actor replied, "How about, wait and see?"

Donnie Wahlberg Teases the Return of a Fan-Favorite 'Blue Bloods' Character in 'Boston Blue'
Image
Donnie Wahlberg continues to tease fans about who might show up in the Blue Bloodsspin-off. Wahlberg's character, Danny Reagan, is heading to Wahlberg's beloved Boston for a spin-off series called Boston Blue. And since many of the original cast is not heading to the home of the New England Patriots, fans have been asking Wahlberg repeatedly about who can take the trip up to the land of Dunkin Donuts. But if you're worried that you'll never see your favorites again, don't be. At least, if you ask about a character from the flagship series, chances are that Wahlberg hopes they'll make an appearance in the new show.

'Blue Bloods' Star, 55, Teases Cameo Appearances From Co-Stars in 'Boston Blue' Spin-Off
Image
Blue Bloodsmay have come to an end, but Donnie Wahlberg's Danny Reagan is getting his own series! He's not in New York City this time as the show, Boston Blue, is taking Wahlberg back to his own hometown. We don't know who else from the flagship series we could see on Boston Blue, and it is something that fans have been asking about. Wahlberg is down to give us all the teases that he possibly can. The original show, which had Tom Selleckas Frank Reagan, was beloved by fans, and while they're excited to see Danny again, they also want to have hope that they'll see some of the original cast make cameo appearances on the new series.

Luckily, it seems as if Wahlberg wants the same. In a post that Wahlberg shared on Instagram back in March, fans were asking about the series and its connection to Blue Bloods.

5 Blue Bloods characters we'd love to see appear on Boston Blue
Image
With Boston Blue due to bring back the character of Danny Reagan, fans of the original Blue Bloods series would love to see other characters from the original show make an appearance. This new show will follow Danny in what is called an “expansion” of the universe surrounding the series as he moves to Boston to work for the police department.

The series will follow Danny and a new law enforcement family: the Silver family. Lena Silver is his detective partner; her mother, Mae, is a District Attorney; her stepsister, Sarah, is the Superintendent of the Police Department; and her younger brother, Jonah, works as a rookie cop.

The roles within the family are similar to those of Danny’s family, who are likely still in New York, doing their own thing while going to weekly Sunday dinners. But who would we love to see make an appearance, whether family or someone Danny worked with?...

Quick LinksBad To Worse Was a Brilliant EpisodeErin's Subplot Made No SenseErin's Bizarre Subplot Was ConfusingThe Rest of the Season Was Practically Flawless

Among TV procedurals, Blue Bloods was decidedly unique. Rather than focusing on a set of coworkers toiling away while fighting crime, the show focused on a complete family of police officers who were utterly dedicated to protecting their city. They served tirelessly and sacrificed everything for their work — save for their regular family dinners, of course. The show's early cancellation meant that season 14 would be its last. A spin-off, Boston Blue, was quickly greenlit, and that show will follow Donnie Wahlberg's Detective Danny Reagan as he begins his journey in a brand new city.

While Boston Blue will likely be interesting, the Reagan family was the biggest draw of the show. Every single member of the family was compelling and had a dedicated storyline of their own.

Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

In the realm of TV in the 2000s, few network shows can compete with the success of "Blue Bloods." But all good things do come to an end, with CBS canceling the popular series at the end of 2023. That was rough for fans but fortunately, these characters will live on. Or, at the very least, one very popular character will.

Donnie Wahlberg's Danny Reagan is going to headline his very own spin-off, which will keep the "Blue Bloods" universe alive. Get ready for "Boston Blue." As the title implies, this new show will take Danny to a new location, with a new cast of characters, and new cases for him to crack. So, what do we know about the show? How soon is it happening?...

Blue Bloods' Best Asset May Have Been To Blame For CBS' Cancelation
Image
CBS' decision to cancel Blue Bloods might have been because of its best asset. The Tom Selleck-led police and family drama was one of CBS' highest-rated dramas for fourteen years, including its final season. Over 11 million people watched the Blue Bloods series finale, which was an impressive number considering the show's age and timeslot. The series ended with the final Blue Bloods Reagan family dinner, demonstrating how important this aspect of the series was.

Although there was a massive fan-led movement to save Blue Bloods, CBS stood firm by its decision to cancel the long-running police procedural. The network's reasons for doing so were mostly financial, as Blue Bloods was more expensive to produce than other shows. There were a variety of reasons for the expense, including that the series was filmed in New York and that it had a large cast that remained with the show for all fourteen seasons.

As the final episode aired this past Friday, December 13 to mixed reviews, viewers are demanding a spin-off, now more than ever.

Warning! Spoilers ahead for the Blue Bloods series finale.Blue Bloods showrunner Kevin Wade explains why the final episode didn’t kill any Reagans. ‘Blue Bloods’ Finale: How Donnie Wahlberg Fought for Danny & Baez’s Big Ending
Image
[Warning: The following contains major spoilers for the Blue Bloods series finale, “End of Tour.”] Blue Bloods ended its 14-season run with joy and sorrow Friday night with the CBS procedural’s series finale. And for many fans, one of the joys was watching Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) ask out partner Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez). The romantic twist came after Danny got grandfatherly advice from Henry Reagan (Len Cariou). “I always told you not to bring the job home,” Henry told him. “But the problem now is, you have no one not to bring it home to.” Danny took Grandpa’s words to heart, later asking Baez if she wanted to get a pizza. And in a Variety post-finale debrief, Wahlberg said he was “pushing” for that moment. “It was important to [showrunner] Kevin Wade to not have every partnership turn into a relationship. And I respected that, and I agreed with it,” the actor said. “I think it...

'That's What I'll Miss the Most': Tom Selleck Reveals the Key to Blue Bloods' Success
Image
Tom Selleck looked back at 14 years of Blue Bloods and the relationships formed between the cast. He said they wouldn't have been as close-knit if they didn't film a dinner scene for every episode.

Blue Bloods created one of TV's most iconic families in the Reagans; their onscreen chemistry was palpable. Tom Selleck confirmed they formed familial bonds behind the scenes, and the care also went out to the crew and the rest of the cast. He said this happened naturally over the years, a cumulative effect of 14 years spent on set. When asked about his favorite memory of the show, he told Entertainment Weekly it's a million moments of experiences. "I think it was just really the continuity," he asserted. "I know that doesn't fit in a little box, but it wasn't like a light bulb went off one day and I said, oh, this is the best moment.

Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains details of tonight’s Blue Bloods series finale and Season 14 ender ‘End of Tour.’

“I’m handing you the keys,” a wounded New York Mayor Peter Chase (Dylan Walsh) says to NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) in the Blue Bloods series finale tonight as murderous gangs rage on the streets killing police, judges, and anyone else who gets in their way. “Get us out of this,” the often cunning politician tells the top cop he has so often clashed with over the long running CBS drama’s run.

“Tom Selleck’s character, Frank Reagan, had spent 14 years arguing with his boss, and there was an opportunity there for him to finally serve his boss in a way that also was true to his character,” explains Blue Bloods longtime showrunner Kevin Wade of the importance of the scene in “End of Tour,” the 293rd episode...

How ‘Blue Bloods’ Said Goodbye to the Reagans After 14 Seasons
Image
From the moment it premiered Sept. 24, 2010, and throughout its 14 seasons on CBS, “Blue Bloods” distinguished itself as more family drama than police procedural. Its series finale, which aired Friday, stayed true to that concept by honing in on a heightened case for the cop family involving a notorious gang leader joining forces with other gangs to orchestrate violent hits around the city in a play for amnesty, rather than a grandiose send-off or flashback-driven series reflection.

Eddie Janko-Reagan’’s (Vanessa Ray) partner Luis Badillo (Ian Quinlan) was killed in an ambush, making the case personal for the entire Reagan clan, including her husband Jamie’s nephew Joe. Even from a hospital bed, Eddie refused to back down from the case. Because the Mayor was also shot, Frank (Tom Selleck) was even more tied to the case professionally. And of course, there is a personal tie for Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) because there almost always is.

‘Blue Bloods’ Series Finale Recap: The Reagans Go Out With A Bang & A Prayer Taking On Gangland, NYC
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains details of tonight’s Blue Bloods series finale and Season 14 ender ‘End of Tour.

“Our dinners are never about the food,” proclaims NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) near the end of Blue Bloods‘ final episode. “You know, we’ve got a lot to be thankful for, and looking around this table, I gotta say, I couldn’t be more proud, or grateful,” the patriarch adds before the family bows their heads to pray like the good Catholics they are.

In the end, as it was when the Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess created CBS series debuted on September 24, 2010, Blue Bloods remains all about family – the fictional multi-generational cop family of the Reagans, the fraternity of the police, plus the District Attorney’s office, City Hall, and New York City itself. With a guest appearance by Edward James Olmos as an incarcerated ganglord Lorenzo Batista,...

‘Blue Bloods’ Works Its Last Case: How the CBS Drama Wrapped Up 14 Seasons
Image
[This story contains spoilers for the series finale of Blue Bloods on CBS, titled “End of Tour.”]

Of course it had to end around the dinner table.

Blue Bloods has been a remarkably consistent show over its 14 seasons on CBS — the core cast has remained intact throughout, and a number of the show’s writers and producers have been there for all or nearly all of the run as well. On screen, scenes of the Reagans gathering for a meal have been a constant, and closing out the series without a family dinner scene would have been unthinkable.

Blue Bloods ends after 293 episodes, even if most of its cast would have been happy to continue making the show. Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg and others have said as much in recent interviews, and the show is bowing out as a still reliable draw for CBS. The final episode feels like a season finale, but as a series ender, it’s...

'That's Ridiculous!': Blue Bloods Star Reveals Original Plans for the Series
Image
Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg recall their pilot episode as Blue Bloods ends its 14-year run. The series would have gone the way of other procedurals if Selleck hadn't held his ground.

Donnie Wahlberg confirmed Blue Bloods wasn't conceived as a family-centered police drama. The show would have been a straightforward procedural but Tom Selleck insisted on his vision. "The show could have gone in multiple directions after it was picked up, and Tom was like, 'Listen. It's about family first,'" Wahlberg told Variety. "They had this big set design with a computer, and Tom was going to stand in front of the computer and overlord over New York. And he was like, 'That's ridiculous!'" Blue Bloods' recurring scene supposedly involved Selleck's character Frank Reagan manning a command center, orchestrating the NYPD's operations at every turn.

Erin's Blue Bloods Season 14 Twist Makes The Rest Of Reagans' Ending Worrisome
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Blue Bloods season 14, episode 17, "Entitlement."Blue Bloods season 14, episode 17, "Entitlement," offered a surprise twist for Erin (Bridget Moynahan) that gave audiences a reason to worry about how the long-running police procedural will conclude other storylines. Over the past 14 years, Erin has had a tumultuous relationship with her ex-husband, Jack Boyle (Peter Hermann), and there has been widespread speculation that they would reconcile in the finale. While the fate of most Blue Bloods characters is still unknown, Erin gets her happy ending in "Entitlement," as she and Jack walk arm in arm while discussing how well things are going between them.

However, this was surprising, as Jack had not appeared since Blue Bloods season 14, episode 11. Thus, there was no story centered around Erin and Jack deciding to get back together; that happens off-screen, and "Entitlement" reveals that they are a couple again as part of a subplot...
