Over the years, filmmakers Stanley Kubrick and Wes Anderson have garnered critical and commercial acclaim for their work, with each of them having their distinctive style. However, the similarities between the two mostly end there, with the two having worked in different time periods, dabbling in different genres, and possessing different strengths.

There is another notable similarity between the two as of last year, however; both filmmakers have made movies about hotels. Kubrick’s 1980 film The Shining, the adaptation of the Stephen King novel, follows the Overlook Hotel and its caretakers, the Torrance family, during its off-season of winter, when the trio are the only humans in the place. Anderson’s 2014 film The Grand Budapest Hotel, on the other hand, deals with the trials and tribulations of M. Gustave, the concierge at the titular hotel who gets embroiled in issues surrounding a family’s inheritance.

Hell, another video playing up, and spoofing, the themes and visuals of Wes Anderson for that matter, but YouTuber Steve Ramsden has done one hell of a job mashing the two together as he's taken Kubrick's The Shining and Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel and created The Grand Overlook Hotel and, well, it actually says just as much if not more about Kubrick and Anderson than any one of the video essays created over the years. Who doesn't love a good movie mashup? Everyone is capable of making them, so there's a slew of them out there, but Birth Movies Death tracked down an especially impressive gem well worth sharing that pairs The Shining with The Grand Budapest Hotel called "Wes Anderson's The Shining." This thing is absolutely seamless. Not only does the mashup's creator, Steve Ramsden, find some spot-on dialogue crossovers, but he actually manages to make it look like an Overlook hallway leads right into a Grand Budapest room. And how about that coloring? I never realized how many visuals in The Shining had such a Wes Anderson feel to them. However, Ramsden did. Here's what he told Live for Films: "I noticed how Wes Anderson and Stanley Kubrick frame their shots in a similar way – this was the result: 'The Grand Overlook Hotel'!"
