Will Quadflieg

Edit
  • Very famous and respected German theater actor, who played most major roles, for example Faust.
  • Father of actor Christian Quadflieg and Roswitha Quadflieg.
  • Retired from the stage in 1999.
  • Studied acting under Vera Prellwitz and made his stage debut in 1933. He enjoyed lengthy residencies at the Schiller Theater in Berlin and at the Hamburger Schauspielhaus (until 1964).
  • Considered one of the pre-eminent post-war German character actors of the stage, both in classical or traditional roles and in avant-garde theatre.
  • Until 1999, he made prolific recordings, reciting classic literature and poetry for audio books, records and CD's.
  • During the Nazi era, he was frequently cast as idealistic youths in propaganda films.
  • As a high-school student he took acting lessons for the first time and made his stage debut in 1933. It followed engagements in Düsseldorf and finally in Berlin, the stronghold of the German theater and film. There he became a star who was able to captivate the audience with his intensive performance.
  • His performances on the stage kept on the highest level after the war, moreover he was involved in the initial stages of the "Junge Bühne" in Hamburg.
  • The actor Will Quadflieg belonged to the great actors of the German theater who can look on to a more than 60 years lasting career.
  • To his role during World War II he confessed unvarnished that he was a hanger-on and that he was glad to be allowed to play at the theater instead to fight at the front - an honest statement and a behavior which no one is allowed to condemn when one hasn't lived in that time.
