Robert and Michelle King Talk ‘Happy Face,’ ‘Elsbeth’ and the Cancelation of ‘Evil’
Image
Emmys odds are in Robert and Michelle King’s favor this season as the husband-and-wife duo have three shows in awards contention. The longtime series creators and executive producers behind Elsbeth, Evil and Happy Face, which are in the running, are no strangers to churning out multiple shows at a time. As Robert tells THR: “It was even harder when we were doing The Good Fight and Evil.”

For the Kings, it’s not the volume of work that causes restless nights, it’s wanting to do more, particularly when it comes to their supernatural drama starring Katja Herbers, Mike Colter and Aasif Mandvi. “I don’t fucking understand why Evil was canceled; I still can’t,” Robert admits of the thriller that premiered on CBS in 2019 before moving to the network’s streaming platform Paramount+ in its second season. “I lay awake at night wondering why it was canceled,...

Columbo Inspired A Hit Spin-Off Series With Carrie Preston
Image
Everybody loves a cozy mystery. There's nothing quite like curling up with a warm blanket and a mystery show that wraps things up each episode, following a quirky mystery-solver of one kind or another. Whether we're following someone like murder mystery author Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury) on "Murder, She Wrote" or traveling truth-teller Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne) on "Poker Face," there's just something about cozy mysteries that soothes the soul. Now, there's another great cozy mystery series that's joined the crew: "Elsbeth," starring Carrie Preston as the titular crime-solver. The CBS show is actually a spin-off of "The Good Wife" and "The Good Fight," on which Preston initially played unconventional Chicago attorney Elsbeth Tascioni. On her own series, however, the character is working with the New York Police Department to solve crimes instead of prosecute them.

"Elsbeth" has been praised by critics for being a fun procedural that uses the...

1 Star Wars Actor Is Elsbeth Season 3's Dream Guest For The Show's Veteran Casting Director
Image
Elsbeth season 3 is officially confirmed, and the show's casting director is excited about potential celebrity cameos, with a few already in mind. While many are excited for season 3, Elsbeth season 2 was quite memorable, especially the finale. The season's final episode included Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) being arrested for harassment and going to prison, the same one housing several of the murder suspects she helped put away. The Elsbeth season 2 finale ended with Elsbeth having a dream sequence of a musical number from the Broadway play Chicago, specifically “Cell Block Tango,”saying that theater director Alex Modarian, who was murdered, "had it coming."

During an interview with Variety, the casting director for Elsbeth, Findley Davidson, opened up about cameos for Elsbeth season 3, and one of the celebrities she would like to make an appearance is Phoebe Waller-Bridge from Fleabag and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Throughout its two seasons, Elsbeth has had a plethora of well-known celebrities,...

Emmy odds check-up: ‘The Pitt’ prognosis is positive as it creeps up on ‘Severance’
Image
Exactly three months ago, The Pitt was in 10th place for Best Drama Series; its vital signs have been steadily improving ever since.

By March, the Max medical procedural had jumped up to sixth place in Gold Derby's odds, and by April it was in the top four. Now, as word of mouth continues to grow, The Pitt has achieved its highest placement yet at No. 2, behind only the long-standing predictions leader, Severance.

The Pitt stars Emmy frontrunner Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, a senior attending physician who works a 15-hour shift at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. Each episode unfolds hourly in real time. Robby's fellow staff members include Taylor Dearden's Melissa "Mel" King, Katherine Lanasa's Dana Evans, Patrick Ball's Frank Langdon, and Shawn Hatosy's Dr. Jack Abbott.

While The Pitt gives viewers a nostalgic throwback feel to traditional broadcast dramas, Severance is celebrated...

Alyssa Milano, Michael Emerson, and every famous guest star that ‘Elsbeth’ is submitting for the 2025 Emmys
Image
CBS will submit 25 performers from Elsbeth Season 2 for Emmy consideration, Gold Derby has learned.

That includes the three series regulars — Carrie Preston as quirky investigator Elsbeth Tascioni, Wendell Pierce as police captain Charles Wallace, and Carra Patterson as police officer-turned-detective Kaya Blanke — plus 22 famous guest stars who made an impact during the show's sophomore year.

Preston, a former guest actress Emmy winner (2013) for playing this same character on The Good Wife, will campaign in Best Drama Actress. Pierce and Patterson are seeking their first career Emmy bids, and are entering the respective races for Best Drama Supporting Actor and Best Drama Supporting Actress.

Several big names and award winners are among the guest stars being submitted. Who's the Boss? and Charmed star Alyssa Milano plays Lisette “Pupetta” Del Ponte, the owner of a restaurant embroiled in murder. Two-time Emmy winner Michael Emerson, who's married to Preston in real life, has...

‘The Last of Us’ Emmy odds shake-up: With Kaitlyn Dever going guest, Isabela Merced jumps up in supporting
Image
Last week, HBO announced that The Last of Us scene-stealer Kaitlyn Dever would be campaigning as a guest star, as opposed to a supporting actress, for the zombie apocalypse drama. That left an opening in Gold Derby's Best Drama Supporting Actress Emmy odds that has since been filled by ... drumroll, please ... her costar Isabela Merced.

Dever plays Abby, a soldier who seeks revenge against Joel (Pedro Pascal) in Season 2 for the death of her father in Season 1. Since Dever has only appeared in two episodes (so far), she's eligible to compete as a guest star for The Last of Us because of the TV Academy's "less than 50 percent" ruling. The 28-year-old will also be on the Emmy ballot for Apple Cider Vinegar in Best Limited Series/Movie Actress.

Merced is another newcomer to The Last of Us this year, playing the free-spirited Dina, the romantic interest of Ellie (Bella Ramsey...

Carrie Preston Comments On Angus' Possible Return In Elsbeth Season 3: "When The Time Is Right"
Image
Anyone hoping that Ioan Gruffudd’s short-lived love interest Angus will return for Elsbeth season 3 will be glad to hear series star Carrie Preston’s thoughts on his role. While Elsbeth's cast of characters was already relatively large by season 2 of the starry Good Wife spinoff, the show didn't have a love interest for its title character. However, Ioan Gruffudd’s Scottish fire-fighter Angus changed that in season 2, episode 11, “Tiny Town.”

In a conversation with TVLine, Preston comments about the possibility of Elsbeth and Angus reuniting moving forward. Although Angus initially met Elsbeth thanks to his proximity to the death of a young cosmetic consultant, the pair unexpectedly hit it off and shared what Elsbeth dubbed a “whirlwind romance.” Later, Elsbeth season 2 confirmed that Elsbeth and Angus had been video chatting since his return to his native Scotland. Read her comment below:

Elsbeth Burning Question: Will Angus Return Next Season? EP Says…

In Elsbeth Season 2, the CBS drama gave its titular lawyer her first real love interest in Ioan Gruffudd’s Scottish musician/firefighter, and the brief flirtationship was such a smashing success that fans have been clamoring for Angus’ return ever since.

Alas, Gruffudd only appeared in that Feb. 20 episode, but his character was mentioned multiple times in subsequent installments. At first, it seemed as if Angus and Elsbeth had parted ways after his trip to New York City.

Here's Why Carra Patterson's Kaya Left 'Elsbeth' as a Series Regular
Image
Elsbeth Season 2 confirmed Carra Patterson's series regular exit as Detective Kaya Blanke, much to the disappointment of Carrie Preston's Elsbeth Tascioni and the show's fans. In Season 1 of the CBS comedy-drama series, Kaya Blanke was tasked with helping Elsbeth fulfill her consent decree by observing and assisting the New York Police Department (NYPD) with investigations.

Part of Kaya's journey in Elsbeth is her desire to become a detective. Working side by side with Elsbeth has helped her sharpen her skills due to the consistent number of cases they solve. Elsbeth Season 2 finally saw Kaya being promoted to an NYPD Detective, but it came at a price.

Who Will Be Elsbeth’s New Officer? Season 3 Changes Revealed Following Carra Patterson’s Exit
Image
The Elsbeth Season 2 finale marked Carra Patterson‘s final episode as a series regular. Her character, newly promoted Detective Kaya Blanke, has been promoted again to a special task force, and training’s beginning immediately in Washington, D.C. Kaya and Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) said their goodbye (for now) after Elsbeth was released from jail in the May 8 finale, and Elsbeth ended the episode with a tearful cheers to Kaya at the precinct’s goodbye party. Patterson isn’t leaving Elsbeth altogether. She’ll be back as a guest star indefinitely as the show continues. But things are going to look very different with Kaya gone in Season 3. Showrunner Jonathan Tolins detailed their plan for Elsbeth’s next companion officer to TV Insider in an interview about the Season 2 finale. Kaya is not going to be replaced in the series, and Kaya can’t be replaced in Elsbeth’s life.

"It Does Feel Organic”: 'Elsbeth' Showrunner Addresses Carra Patterson’s Departure and Season 3 Future
Image
And that's a wrap on Elsbeth Season 2. Last night, the curtains came down on the second installment of the quirky police procedural series. It was an emotional season finale as the final moments saw the cast bid farewell to one of their own at the precinct. With toasts and heartfelt speeches, the team said goodbye to Kaya Blanke (Carra Patterson), who in the penultimate episode learned of her surprise promotion to detective from Captain Wagner (Wendell Pierce). Kaya is departing the NYPD for Washington, DC, for a new challenge that will see her undertake several undercover assignments. Thankfully, audiences will get an occasional glimpse of her new chapter as she'll continue to feature in the show as a recurring guest in Season 3.

The Season 2 finale, "Ramen Holiday," opens with Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) behind bars, where she reunites with a number of the criminals she helped put away in previous seasons.

Elsbeth Star Responds To The Surprising Departure Of One Series Regular Before Season 3
Image
Elsbeth star and executive producer Carrie Preston opens up about the police procedural's first cast change. It is usually in a season's last installment that significant changes happen. But, in the case of the popular CBS show, the Elsbeth season 2 finale served as an epilogue for departing cast member Carra Patterson. The actor, who plays Officer Kaya Blanke, will recur in season 3 after her character receives a big promotion in the penultimate episode.

In a post-finale interview with Deadline, Preston responded to Patterson's departure ahead of the already-confirmed season 3. The Emmy winner talked about the fact that Kaya is leaving after achieving a big dream. She mentions how, because of the procedural structure, Elsbeth doesn't work with the same detective every week. Still, in the quote below, Preston underlines that viewers will see Patterson again:

“I love Carra with all my heart, and she’s brought such value to Elsbeth and the show.

Elsbeth Showrunner Explains Why The Show Stands Out From Other Network Procedurals Right Now
Image
Elsbeth is possibly the most unique procedural on TV, and its showrunner believes they know why. Having spun off from The Good Wife and The Good Fight, the show follows Carrie Preston's Elsbeth Tascioni, who works diligently to solve crimes. While she is not officially a police officer, she spends much of her time solving crimes, while emotionally connecting with everyone in her vicinity. After a successful sophomore season, Elsbeth was recently renewed for season 3, as CBS believes that it can be a successful long-running show.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Rachel Foertsch, showrunner Jonathan Tolins explained the most stand-out element from the show so far. While other procedurals focus on shocking cliffhangers and extreme drama, Tolins prefers to focus on Elsbeth's "kindness and joy and enthusiasm," as "that's what makes our show special." The showrunner finds that "very moving" and plans to continue to honor the character's upbeat attitude.

‘Elsbeth’ Star Carrie Preston Mourns Kaya’s Exit: ‘It’s Going to Hurt Not Having Her Around All the Time’
Image
This article contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of “Elsbeth”

In the Season 2 finale of “Elsbeth,” the title character (Carrie Preston) wound up in jail, where she not only had to jazz up her prison uniform and solve the murder of one of her fellow prisoners, but possibly miss seeing Kaya (Carra Patterson) before she left for her new task force assignment.

Happily, Elsbeth smokes out the murderer and is freed in time to wish Kaya farewell and good luck in Washington, D.C.

Ahead of the finale, TheWrap spoke to Preston and showrunner Jonathan Tolins about saying goodbye — for now — to one of the show’s original characters and how they pulled off that dazzling cell block dance homage to “Chicago” with guest stars Retta, Gina Gershon, Elizabeth Lail, Mary-Louise Parker and Alyssa Milano.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Elsbeth Season 2 finale, “Ramen Holiday.”] He had it coming! Ok, no, he didn’t. Not this time, at least. An inmate was murdered in the prison where Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) was being held in the Elsbeth Season 2 finale on Thursday, May 8, on CBS. And it made Elsbeth feel right at home in her unexpected circumstances. Having a murder to solve kept the lawyer occupied as she reconnected with eight of the perps she had arrested over the course of last two seasons. Much about the show is unknown, but it is described as "a David vs. Goliath legal show set in Silicon Valley." The Kings will executive produce alongside Liz Glotzer.

The Kings' relationship with CBS started with the drama series The Good Wife, which aired from 2009 to 2016. The legal drama starred Juliana Margulies, Matt Czury, and Josh Charles, among others. The couple returned...

Breaking: ‘The Pitt’ star Noah Wyle takes the lead in latest Emmy odds for Best Actor
Image
The Emmy race for Best Drama Actor just received a shot of adrenaline.

For the first time since Gold Derby's 2025 Emmys predictions center opened in February, Noah Wyle is leading the odds in this topsy-turvy category. The Pitt star has overtaken Adam Scott (Severance), who has been in the No. 1 position since early March. Before that, Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) was the frontrunner.

Max's real-time hospital drama has been on a major upswing since its final episodes streamed in April. In one buzzed-about moment, Wyle's character, Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, had a mental breakdown after a concert shooting brought dozens of patients into his emergency room, including his quasi-stepson's new girlfriend. Wyle is a five-time Emmy nominee for ER (1995-99), but this would be his first win.

For Best Drama Series, The Pitt is now tied with The Last of Us in second place, both behind Severance. Taylor Dearden as...

“Plenty of Prisoners Want Their Revenge”: ‘Elsbeth’ Boss Teases a Dangerous Season 2 Finale
Image
It’s been a colorful, dramatic, and exciting second season for Carrie Preston’s titular NYPD adviser in CBS’ hit series Elsbeth. And, on Thursday, the latest batch of episodes will round out with the season finale, titled “Ramen Holiday.” There’s a lot of hype surrounding the Season 2 finale, as we know that a slew of guest stars will make their return to haunt Elsbeth from behind bars after she was taken into custody following the events of last week’s penultimate episode. Featuring supporting performances from Stephen Moyer as Alex Modarian, Retta as Margo Clarke, Alyssa Milano as Pupetta Del Ponte, Mary-Louise Parker as Freya Frostad, Gina Gershon as Vanessa Holmes, and André De Shields as Matteo Hart, there might not be enough cells to hold the stacked cast back.

What we know so far is that one of the above names will become the victim of murder...

Elsbeth Season 2 Finale Trailer Reveals Carrie Preston Character In Prison & Reunion With Old Suspects
Image
Elsbeth season 2 finale trailer shows the offbeat lawyer incarcerated with several of the suspects she has helped put away. The penultimate episode of Elsbeth season 2 saw Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) arrested after harassing a witness during an interrogation. She was promptly sent to prison by a bitter judge who was a close friend of her deceased nemesis, Judge Milton Crawford. And the upcoming finale episode will see the titular heroine spending some time behind bars, and she could be in for a not-so-warm welcome.

Per the TV Promos YouTube channel, the finale trailer shows the titular attorney behind bars with some of the criminals she helped put away, a selection of whom perform a musical number to "welcome" her. Among the criminals shown in the trailer include Margo Clarke, Freya Frostad, Vanessa Holmes, Quinn Powers, and Alyssa Milano's Pupetta Del Ponte. ‘Elsbeth’ Boss Teases Danger for Elsbeth With Returning Guest Stars in Prison (Video)
Image
In the penultimate May 1 episode of the hit show’s sophomore season, NYPD police adviser Elsbeth Tascioni (the delightful Carrie Preston) was arrested after her efforts to catch a killer crossed the line, and now she’s in serious legal trouble. The judge, unfortunately for Elsbeth, was a great friend of the late Judge Milton Crawford (Michael Emerson), who had a contentious relationship with Elsbeth, who was trying to prove he had murdered two people decades earlier, and happened to be shot and killed while standing next to the lawyer-turned-sleuth. The Thursday, May 8, guest star-packed season finale finds Elsbeth incarcerated with nine of the murderers she has helped put away. Among the miscreants making return visits: lecherous theater director (and Elsbeth’s first success as an amateur detective) Alex Modarian (Stephen Moyer), society matchmaker Margo Clarke (Retta), plastic surgeon Vanessa Holmes (Gina Gershon), fashion designer Matteo Hart (André De Shields...

“We Enjoy Those Moments Together”: Carrie Preston Explains How ‘Elsbeth’ Will Continue Without Carra Patterson
Image
Elsbeth is heading into new territory — and not just on the crime scene. With Officer Kaya Blanke’s surprise promotion taking her out of New York and into an undercover role in D.C., CBS’s offbeat legal dramedy is saying goodbye — for now — to one of its key characters. And while Elsbeth fans will miss Carra Patterson in the day-to-day mix, Carrie Preston is embracing the evolution.

Thursday night’s episode, titled “I’ve Got a Little List,” saw Kaya’s unexpected rise as she was selected by Captain Wagner (played by Wendell Pierce) for a special task force assignment in Washington. The Season 2 finale, “Ramen Holiday,” airing May 8, is aiming to give Kaya quite the send-off — with a full guest roster, a toast in her honor, and even a musical number.

Speaking to TVLine about the shift,Preston acknowledged the emotional weight of the change while also framing...

‘Elsbeth’s Carrie Preston On Co-Star Carra Patterson’s Series Regular Exit: “An Opportunity To Really Enrich The Storylines”
Image
As the eponymous unconventional attorney/quasi-detective Elsbeth adapts to a changing dynamic with NYPD officer and friend Kaya following the latter’s promotion, so will lead Carrie Preston adjust to a dramedy that will see a little less of co-star-turned-guest-star Carra Patterson.

Season 2’s finale, May 8’s episode “Ramen Holiday,” will feature a roster of guest stars and a celebratory toast in Kaya’s honor.

Speaking to TVLine about the change, Preston said the cast shocker allows “some wonderful stories” for the show’s world, adding that working alongside Patterson has been “such a gift.”

“What I love about our show is that we don’t get too comfortable in anything, and so we enjoy those moments...

Image
[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 19, “I’ve Got a Little List.” Elsbeth star Carra Patterson is leaving the CBS procedural after two seasons. Patterson has played NYPD officer Kaya Blanke since Season 1 and through most of Elsbeth Tascioni’s (Carrie Preston) cases until she was promoted to detective in Season 2, separating the women who had evolved into very close friends. She’ll return as a guest star in Elsbeth Season 3, and her guest-star role will continue indefinitely, Deadline reports. ‘Elsbeth’ Goes Musical in the Season 2 Finale Promo
Image
"Yes, I'm here, I've been splashed... I'm a New Yorker," the titular Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) might have once said, but, as the promo for the upcoming Season 2 finale proves, she's certainly not forgotten her Chicago roots. Following the penultimate Episode 19, "I've Got a Little List," which featured the talented Billy Magnussen as thrill-seeker and dangerous playboy Rod, one more episode in Elsbeth's critically acclaimed second season remains, and it promises to be a toe-tapping, cameo-filled adventure.

As can be seen in the promo for the episode, available to watch below, Elsbeth is going behind bars herself this week, although to catch the killer of a killer who is already serving time. However, if there's one perfect place to feature a who's who of the show's guest stars it is prison, with Elsbeth's hard work coming back to haunt her as she comes face to face with the likes of Retta,...

'Elsbeth' Shocker: A Main Character Exits Series Ahead of Season 2 Finale
Image
Elsbeth fans, prepare yourselves — one of the show’s most beloved characters is stepping back just before the Season 2 finale airs next week. In tonight’s episode, “I’ve Got A Little List,” viewers were stunned to learn that Carra Patterson, who has portrayed NYPD Officer Kaya Blanke since the show’s debut, is being written off as a series regular.

In the episode’s emotional turning point, Captain Wagner breaks the news to Kaya: “You are joining a special task force in DC. A spot just opened up. Training starts right away. It will require extensive training in DC and undercover assignments.” Kaya, visibly shocked, hadn’t even applied for the job — it was Wagner who put her up for it, convinced she was the perfect fit.

“My character, Kaya Blanke, is embarking on a new adventure as the story continues to unfold, and I am excited to do the same.
