In his memoirs, he claimed to have turned down an offer to be the getaway driver on the Great Train Robbery.

His mother gave him the nickname "Nosher" because of his enormous appetite when he was an infant.

Broke his ankle performing a jump in a fight scene whilst acting as an uncredited stuntman extra on Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. (1966) at Shepperton studios. Filming was briefly stopped whilst he was attended to and then taken to hospital where the ankle was put in plaster. He turned up again later that day and asked to be put back in the film as he didn't want to lose a days pay.
