Australia’s Pixel Zoo Animation Studios, which has done service work for leading global brands such as Bratz and L.O.L. – Surprise!, is moving into original content production with the launch of a new division, Pixel Labs, and has tapped Emmy Award-winning kids TV veteran Josh Fisher to lead its development efforts.
Fisher will oversee Pixel Labs from a new Los Angeles office, marking the Brisbane-based studio’s first expansion into the U.S. The announcement was shared with Variety by Pixel Zoo founder and CEO Paul Gillett and head of studio Sebastian Gonzalez.
Known for its high-quality animation services for global clients, including Hasbro, Mga Entertainment, Spin Master, eOne and Moonbug Entertainment, Pixel Zoo is part of Mga Studios. The launch of Pixel Labs signals a shift toward creating its own intellectual property across film, television and digital platforms.

Podcast industry leader Stitcher today unveiled its expanding roster of new shows, original content and advertising partnerships at the Winter Podcast Upfront in Los Angeles.
Hosted by Stitcher and six other top podcast networks, the Winter Podcast Upfront gave advertisers, agencies and media a first look at the newest partnerships, talent and shows slated for 2019, with presentations featuring stars, producers and leading industry executives.
Actor and comedian Paul Scheer joined Stitcher Chief Revenue Officer Korri Kolesa to unveil Stitcher’s slate of new programming. Scheer launched his movie critique podcast “Unspooled” on Stitcher’s Earwolf comedy podcast network last year and is the host of Earwolf’s long-running hit show “How Did This Get Made?”

Amazon Studios has greenlit production on Do, Re & Mi, an animated musical series for preschoolers, from Kristen Bell, Jackie Tohn, Michael Scharf (Moon and The Son: An Imagined Conversation), Ivan Askwith (Veronica Mars) and Gaumont. The 52-episode 11-minute series will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in over 200 countries and territories.
Created by Tohn and Scharf, Do, Re & Mi is about three birdy best friends named Do, Re & Mi who live in a world filled with rhythm, beats and melodies. Along with their day-to-day adventures, the characters model ways for parents and young kids to talk about music and connect these ideas to their social-emotional development. Every episode ends in a song, featuring original tracks performed by Bell (Frozen), Tohn, and other surprise guests.
