A head-scratching bit of lore lingering from Ghosts season 4 gets an update from co-showrunner Joe Port. The supernatural comedy has been renewed for two additional installments at CBS, meaning that Ghosts season 5 will get the chance to pick up on the fact that death is now hunting Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), but there are even more unanswered questions.
One of those questions connects to Sass (Román Zaragoza). His girlfriend, Joan (played by Taylor Ortega), can roam more freely despite the fact that the show's lore dictates that spirits are generally confined to the places where they died.
In an update from TVLine, showrunner and executive producer Joe Port connected Joan's powers to Pete's (played by Richie Moriarty). Port, who serves as showrunner with fellow co-creator Joe Wiseman, teased that there will be more to learn about Joan's powers. Read his quote below:
“There may be a story behind that. I mean,...

It’s been almost two months since Ghosts ended its fourth season with that lovely finale, "The Devil Went Down to Woodstone," and fans certainly can’t wait for the show to return. Whenever that happens, since the comedy has been renewed for Seasons 5 and 6, viewers can expect more details about Sasappis’ (Román Zaragoza) death, as he is the only main spirit whose demise remains a mystery. That, of course, won't be the only major storyline ahead, as TVLine may have confirmed one more, involving none other than Sass’ love interest, Joan (Taylor Ortega).
Ortega’s character debuted in Ghosts Season 4 as a screenwriter from the Golden Age of Hollywood and one of the first women to pursue that career. Unfortunately, she died during the 1940s with a flask of whiskey, which other ghosts can drink briefly before it returns to the flask. Pete (Richie Moriarty) introduced her to Sass...

When Season 5 of Ghosts rolls around, fans may finally be getting an answer to one of the show's biggest remaining questions. One of the series' co-showrunners recently talked about what the new season may have in store.
Per TVLine, Ghosts co-showrunner Joe Wiseman revealed that fans may finally get the answer to how Sas, the Native American from the 1500s who appears on the hit CBS sitcom, died. The question will "very likely" be answered. "We’re not promising, but it is something we’ve talked about a lot," Wiseman shared. "It does seem like every season, we reveal some of the big mysteries — what their powers are, and how they died — and as you mentioned, I think the last one is Sas' death, so... probably."

Since February, Ghosts has gotten a double renewal that will see the fan-favorite comedy return for Seasons 5 and 6, both of which have no set premiere dates — though the show is expected to stay in its regular time slot. Not many details have been shared about the upcoming seasons either, but that is likely to change soon. Nevertheless, there’s only one major question that needs answering regarding a particular character’s death, which co-showrunner Joe Wiseman has teased the possibility of an answer finally being provided in Ghosts Season 5.
If you’ve been following Ghosts closely, you’d have noticed that details about all the main ghosts' deaths have pretty much been revealed except one: Sasappis (Román Zaragoza), who is often the only voice of reason among the bunch. Fortunately, viewers will “very likely” find out more about his death when the sitcom returns, according to Wiseman, who also offered...

Rose McIver is opening up about directing her first episode of Ghosts in season 4 and how much she enjoyed taking on this new role. McIver's Ghosts character, Sam, and her husband, Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), have been through a lot since moving into the old country home she inherited from her great aunt, only to find it full of ghosts. Depicting their struggles to adapt to their ghostly roommates at the Woodstone B&b requires a deft touch to wrangle the large ensemble cast. While directing can be a difficult task, McIver found she had fun directing herself and her costars for the first time this season.
In an interview with Variety, McIver spoke about directing an episode in Ghosts season 4 for the first time and how she enjoyed putting together the vision the showrunners had.Far from being nervous, McIver loved her directorial debut and was excited to step into the role,...

Ghosts star Utkarsh Ambudkar has teased what fans can expect from his character in the upcoming fifth season of the hit CBS sitcom. For the past four seasons, Ambudkar has been playing the leading role of Jay, who was introduced as a chef and an understanding husband, who gave up his city job to open a bed and breakfast with his wife Sam, after she suddenly inherited an old country mansion.
Last season ended with another surprising cliffhanger involving Jay, who has accidentally sold his soul to the devil after Hetty’s evil husband pretended to be his publicist. His life is now at risk, as Elias will not stop until he claims Jay’s soul. Speaking with Collider, Ambudkar opened up about his character’s Season 5 storyline, revealing that Sam and their ghost friends will now be very protective of Jay. GhostsSeason 4 left us on quite the dramatic cliffhanger as, after Samantha's (Rose McIver) book launch went off better than anyone could've expected, we learn that Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) has accidentally sold his soul to the devil by signing a contract with ghost-turned-demon Elias Woodstone (Matt Walsh). While little is known about what will happen in Season 5, as showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman begin early plans for the season, Ambudkar is excited to find out what this means for Jay. During the most recent episode of Collider Forces, Ambudkar spoke with series host Perri Nemiroffabout what he hopes to see happen with that storyline.
"We're a comedy. It's not The Bear. So we are trying to tread lightly around it," Ambudkar said about the penultimate episode in which Jay worries that Sam will cheat on him when Pete (Richie Moriarty) brings back another person who can see ghosts. While Ambudkar...

GhostsSeason 4 came to an end just over a week ago, and we're already craving Season 5 like Nancy craves a bowl of fresh guacamole. While little is known about the next season so far, even for showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, Perri Nemiroff is making the wait just a little bit easier with a new Collider Forces interview with series star Utkarsh Ambudkar. Ambudkar plays Jay, the sweet, nerdy, and always hilarious husband to Rose McIver's Sam — and according to Ambudkar, that's exactly how McIver planned it.
During his episode of Collider Forces, Ambudkar told Nemiroff that from the start, McIver advocated for Sam's husband to be played by a person of color. "She had seen me rap at the Oscars, and Rose and my wife had worked together in New Zealand on Power Rangers, so they knew each other. And she was meant to come to my baby shower for our second.

Is there love after life? According to Ghosts, the answer is a resounding “Yes!”
Over the CBS comedy’s run, the show’s many spirits have paired up (Thor and Flower), hooked up (Trevor and Hetty) or almost gotten hitched (Isaac and Nigel). In the Season 4 finale, a new twosome took a big step forward when Alberta realized her feelings for Pete and they shared a kiss after he broke up with girlfriend Donna. Add in Sasappis’ recent romance with 1940s screenwriter Joan, and there’s no longer a ghost who hasn’t experienced some kind of romantic storyline.

For the last four years, Danielle Pinnock has been a ghost — and she couldn't be happier. As one of the large, spirited cast of CBS's Ghosts, Pinnock plays former Prohibition-era jazz singer Alberta, who died on New Year's Eve 1928 after accidentally drinking poisoned moonshine. But in Pinnock's hands, Alberta's living her very best afterlife as the show wraps up its fourth season and looks forward to the now-guaranteed two seasons more ahead.
Part of Pinnock's joy in the role, as she tells Gold Derby, comes from the way Alberta is written. "A lot of times what happens when you see any actor of color playing on broadcast television, we almost become decorations on a Christmas tree where we're just fun to look at, but no one really cares about our storylines," she says.
Not so with series creators and showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman. That's very true with Alberta,...

Editor's note: This article contains spoilers for the Ghosts Season 4 finale.
GhostsSeason 4 has come to a close. After 22 episodes of laughs and undead shenanigans, we've been left on the edge of our seats awaiting the return of Season 5 this fall. While the main cliffhanger revolves around the fate of Jay's (Utkarsh Ambudkar) soul after he signed a contract with Elias (Matt Walsh), who has upgraded his afterlife status to Demon, we're still curious about what's in store for the rest of our favorite characters. As far as relationships go, Season 4 took our ghosts all over the map — literally! Pete (Richie Moriarty) continued his romance with Donna (Allegra Edwards) only to later break up with her in the finale, now that his long-time crush, Alberta (Danielle Pinnock), is interested in being with him.
Sass (Román Zaragoza) finally found love with another roaming ghost named Joan (Taylor Ortega), a screenwriter from the 1940s.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the season finale of “Ghosts,” which aired Thursday night on CBS.
Oh hell no. “Ghosts” just ended its fourth season with a hell of a cliffhanger: Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) has signed a new publicist to help drum up interest in his restaurant — and it appears to be working! But there’s a catch: That contract he signed wasn’t actually to hire a P.R. team. It was to sell his soul to the devil, and that’s not a publicist — that’s Elias Woodstone (Matt Walsh), who can now make physical appearances on earth as the devil’s emissary.
And here’s one more catch: The devil doesn’t want to wait for Jay’s soul. So Elias will now try to bring about Jay’s death, sooner rather than later.

The trailer for the Ghostsseason 4 finale reveals the return of the show's most annoying spirit. The hit sitcom, from executive producers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, is a long way from the finish line. Ghosts season 5 is confirmed, as is season 6. But before then, the upcoming finale looks to set up a few cliffhangers and address lingering threads. There's the return of the villainous Elias (Matt Walsh) and the reemergence of Patience (Mary Holland), who many spirits find annoying. Her return may not help her case all that much.
In the trailer for the Ghosts season 4 finale, Patience returns. While everyone is having fun at a party thrown for Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones), Patience is disturbed by the idea of deviled eggs, and she makes it known. This puts Sam (Rose McIver), Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), and the rest of the party guests on edge. The season 4 finale, titled "The Devil Went Down", premieres Thursday,...

New images from the Ghosts season 4 finale reveal the return of two key characters. After a third installment that was shortened due to the 2023 writers and actors strikes, the supernatural comedy returned in full force to dig deeper into its cohort of undead spirits. It also brought old antagonists and introduced new ones, putting Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) in some particular danger. It sets up a finale that could potentially overflow with cliffhangers, heading into the already-renewed Ghosts season 5.

Sheryl Lee Ralph's Barbara Howard is one of the cornerstones of ABC's hit sitcom Abbott Elementary. However, the veteran actor almost haunted the set of a different sitcom entirely. In a new interview with the Sister Act star, she recounts how she almost became one of the spirits haunting Woodstone Manor on CBS' Ghosts. The near-miss happened when Ralph was starring on the Nina Dobrev sitcom Fam, which was cancelled after a single season. However, two of the Fam creatives, Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, asked her to be on a new series they were developing, Ghosts.
However, the role would have been a supporting one, and at that stage in her career, she wanted a lead role. She turned them down, and the role they had wanted her for, murdered Prohibition-era torch singer Alberta Haynes, went to rising star Danielle Pinnock. From frenemies to lovers, to nothing, to power friends, Ghosts’ Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky) and Trevor (Asher Grodman) have one of the most fascinating relationships in sitcom history. In Season 4 alone, we’ve seen them plot against each other to a hilarious and surprisingly heartfelt degree, before realizing they’d be far more powerful if they teamed up against the other ghosts in the house. Now officially in their “Power Friends” era, Hetty and Trevor spend much of their time scheming, often making themselves look appropriately silly in the process.
Ahead of this week’s big Trevor episode, in which the house’s youngest ghost learns that he’s a father, I sat down with Grodman to talk all things T-Money, and of course, I had to ask about the future of our favorite dead will-they-won’t-they couple. “I can tease that we're going to keep being allies and enemies at the same time.

The Season 2 renewal of Watson today left two CBS scripted series on the bubble, veteran drama The Equalizer and freshman comedy Poppa’s House. The good news is that conversations on both are continuing; the bad news is that both are looking at an already packed 2025-26 CBS slate with little room left. And while their ratings have been Ok, the numbers are in a range of CBS shows that already have been canceled as the network is facing tough cancellation decisions for a second year in a row as its scripted lineup has been performing.
In the case of Poppa’s House, starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., I hear there are ongoing budget talks, and trimming the cost of the sitcom would improve its chances. Still, Poppa’s House is being evaluated alongside three pilots — Dmv, Zarna and The Neighborhood planted spinoff — for what I hear is likely one comedy slot next season.

It's been seven months since we've last heard of the new comedy from Ghostscreators Joe Port and Joe Wiseman. After such a long time, it might even seem like Eternally Yours was not going to happen anymore. However, a new report by Deadline confirms that the duo of writers have just recently cracked their knuckles to develop the upcoming supernatural comedy series. A release window is yet to be announced, but CBS is eyeing the pilot season this fall for the series.

To pilot or not to pilot has been a question broadcast networks have been asking themselves for more than a decade and are increasingly answering ‘no’ to, especially when it comes to the traditional pilot season in the months leading to the May upfronts. We haven’t gotten a single pilot order in 2025 so far. While that is about to change with a handful of orders coming up, the pilot drought has been persistent amid an industry contraction and linear viewing decline, especially as the networks are still dealing with the backlog caused by strike-related delays.
Broadcasters these days often opt for economically efficient planted spinoffs that shoot as regular episodes of existing drama and comedy series or for development rooms and straight-to-series orders, primarily on the drama side. That is ironic because most of the biggest new drama hits of the last two seasons, CBS’ Tracker and Matlock and ABC’s High Potential,...

CBS has given Ghosts fans some very good news. The show has received a two-season renewal from the studio through the 2026/2027 season.
Deadline reports that the Ghosts renewal comes along with a Season 2 order for the breakout Chuck Lorre comedy, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, starring Montana Jordan and Emily Osment. Other series to land renewals include Tracker, Fire Country, Elsbeth, NCIS, NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Sydney and Hollywood Squares. Ghosts is the first non-Chuck Lorre comedy on CBS to land a multi-season renewal in many years.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “Ghostfellas,” the Season 4, Episode 13 of CBS’s “Ghosts.”
“Ghosts” star Rose McIver’s first-ever TV directing gig had a bit of everything: A 1980s flashback. A Mafioso storyline. Ghostly mind games. And even a heist. “It was cool to have a twist and a genre bent to the episode,” said McIver, who directed the Season 4 episode “Ghostfellas,” which aired Thursday on CBS. “We were still making an episode of ‘Ghosts’ that has to be cohesive with the season, but it was fun to explore a little flavor in there and be able to play with the tropes.”
In “Ghostfellas,” Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) is looking to add a new arrabbiata sauce to his restaurant — and early 1980s ghost Pete (Richie Moriarty) comes to the rescue with a unique family recipe. It’s a hit, but it turns out to be from his ex-wife Carol’s (Caroline Aaron) family.

CBS has handed a two-season renewal to Ghosts, now in its fourth season, taking the single-camera comedy through the 2026-27 season. Additionally, the network has given a Season 2 renewal to breakout freshman multi-camera comedy Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage for 2025-26.
The early vote of confidence for the two shows is not surprising as they are CBS’ highest rated comedy series. They have been picked up today along with other CBS strong performers on the drama side, Tracker, Fire Country, Elsbeth, NCIS, NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney as well as the recently launched Hollywood Squares reboot.
Of the bunch, the Young Sheldon spinoff Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is second only to Tracker in Live+35 Days multi-platform viewership (12.9 million), with Ghosts close behind at 11 million, up 9% from last season.

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for 'Ghosts' Season 4 Christmas episode. There aren't many modern sitcoms like CBS' Ghosts. Created by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, the series follows an accidental medium helping take care of an old house (along with the many spirits that inhabit it) and has kept audiences entertained for four seasons with this ensemble's supernatural hijinks. And this isn't just due to the show's comedy; while constantly funny, it's how the series pays special attention to its own lore and develops the world around these characters that has made it such an endearing watch.

Ghosts Season. 4 just celebrated its second major holiday special with an epic double possession. Though much of the episode's emotional weight rests on Utkarsh Ambudkar's shoulders, Rose McIver blows everyone away in the first half of "A Very Arondekar Christmas" with her perfect impression of Betsy Sodaro's Nancy. McIver recently stopped by the latest episode of Collider Ladies Night to unpack the Christmas special and so much more with host Perri Nemiroff. During their wide-ranging conversation, McIver confessed that she had been wanting to work more with Sodaro for quite some time when she received "a text from one of the Joes," referring to series showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, asking if she could do a Nancy impression. She went on to say, "I was like, 'I have no idea. She's so iconic to us, but I'd love to swing the bat.' I mean, there's nobody...

Despite being set in the here and now, Ghosts has about 1,000 years' worth of history at its storytelling disposal. With eight central characters who each passed away during vastly different periods in history, the series has a near-overwhelming amount of possibilities for what it can do with flashbacks. This is a tool that the Joe Port and Joe Wiseman series has used quite effectively throughout its four seasons with glimpses into the past both big and small.

While there are many great sitcoms with different approaches to entertaining their audience, all of the best ones share one key trait: a great ensemble. Whether it's the bar patrons of Cheers or the dysfunctional siblings of Modern Family, these groups are the reasons that fans keep coming back, with their earnest relationships and hilarious hijinks creating the perfect formula for viewership. And while many series boast great performers, few have managed to collect a group as exceptional as CBS' Ghosts. Created by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, this series about a young woman caring for an old mansion — and the many spirits who haunt it — has endeared audiences for years with its shockingly heartfelt story of a found family exploring their world together.

When the episode closes out, however, she suddenly decides the house holds too many temptations and will be going back into the ground. She says she is rejoining "the others," indicating more unseen ghosts live beneath the Bed & Breakfast.
Speaking with TVLine, Port and Wiseman explained how Patience wasn't making up the presence of other spirits in Ghosts season 4, episode 3, indicating more new faces could appear in the show soon. The showrunners explain how the idea of the underground ghosts opens the door for plenty of new faces as the series progresses.

Earlier this year at Sdcc, Ghosts showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman dropped a major spoiler for Season 4. Among some other epic teases, the duo promised that at some point this season Utkarsh Ambudkar's Jay would finally get to see the ghosts he's been living with for four years. While they haven't revealed how Jay will see their dead found family though I have my suspicions or how long it will last, fans are eager to see Ambudkar finally get to interact with his co-stars on the hit comedy series.
