TV Ratings: Showtime’s ‘Shameless’ Finale Hits Season Cross-Platform High
Image
After 11 seasons of drinking, depravity and debauchery, fans showed up for Showtime’s last call for “Shameless,” the premium cabler’s longest-running series to date, this past Sunday. The final episode of the dramedy and 12th episode of Season 11, titled “Father Frank, Full of Grace,” drew a cross-platform total of 1.5Mm, up 41% versus the penultimate episode (1.1Mm) and 29% over the premiere (1.2Mm).

The 9 p.m. linear telecast on April 11 garnered 695,000 viewers, up 33% from the penultimate episode, and essentially tied with the season premiere’s telecast on Dec. 6, 2020 as the best telecast of the season.

As with all premium series, the bulk of viewing will be delivered across platforms on-demand, streaming and delayed viewing— so the numbers will likely increase once those metrics are factored in. Sunday’s projected on-demand and streaming number, 769,000, jumped by 61% from the penultimate episode and delivered a series high for the show.

Per Showtime, Season 10 averaged...

‘Shameless’ Series Finale Tops 1.5 Million Viewers Across Multiple Showtime Platforms
William H. Macy, Steve Howey, Cameron Monaghan, Shanola Hampton, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, and Emma Kenney in Shameless (2011)
No shame in these numbers: The series finale of “Shameless” drew 1.511 million total viewers across multiple platforms, according to Showtime. That’s a season high, 29% better than the Season 11 premiere (1.2 million viewers) and +41% from the comedy’s penultimate episode (1.1 million).

It is a shame, however, that the long-running show is over. The 11-season “Shameless” was Showtime’s most-watched and youngest-skewing comedy. When you factor both of those claims in, it makes sense that “Shameless” was Showtime’s most-streamed comedy series of all time.

Linearly, the 9 p.m. “Shameless” series finale telecast drew 695,000 TV viewers. The rest of the viewing came from streaming and on-demand.

Prior to the launch of Showtime’s over-the-top streaming platform in 2015 (so from 2011-2015), “Shameless” averaged 5.19 million total viewers per episode, according to the premium cable channel. But that giant number includes any and all episodic viewership while the season was in its first run. In other words,...

Shameless Season 11 Episode 2 Review: Go Home, Gentrifier!

This Shameless review contains spoilers.

Shameless Season 11 Episode 2

“I want some nice things in my life for a change.”

A major hurdle that season ten of Shameless had to work through was not only the loss of Emmy Rossum’s Fiona, but also the idea that some other Gallagher should now take her place as the show’s central protagonist and stabilizing force in the family. Their decision to appoint Debbie to this position did not work in the show’s favor, but season eleven is already off to a strong start by how it’s relegated Debbie back to more of a supporting status. If anything, Shameless’ final season understands that it doesn’t need someone to fill Fiona’s place and that truly showcasing the cast as an ensemble is the strongest way to go out. Lip’s struggles get a little more attention than everything else, but...

William H. Macy, Steve Howey, Cameron Monaghan, Shanola Hampton, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, and Emma Kenney in Shameless (2011)
There’s still plenty of life left in Shameless, according to Showtime execs.

The Gallagher family, featuring William H. Macy, is set to return for its 10th season on November 3. Despite rumors that the John Wells-produced series might be heading toward its natural end, Gary Levine and Jana Winograde, Presidents of Entertainment at Showtime Networks, said that there’s no sign of slowing down with the family dramedy.

“There’s a lot of Shameless left in Shameless,” Levine at TCA today. “We’re right in the middle of the 10th season and the stories are unbelievable, the characters are as vibrant as ever and that show has just got the most unique tone on television. John Wells and that talented cast continue to find new ways for the Gallagher family to live and amaze, so I don’t know what the future holds, but the present is exciting.”

Showtime Bosses On How Long ‘Shameless’ & ‘Ray Donovan’ Can Go -TCA
Shameless is heading into its expanded ninth season as the longest-running drama on premium cable and one of the most watched.

With 8 million viewers a week, the most recent eighth season of Shameless was most watched in Showtime’s history and ranked as the No.1 premium cable series in 2018.

Cameron Diaz Says She’s ‘Actually Retired’ From Acting
Cameron Diaz at an event for The Teen Choice Awards 2009 (2009)
As one of the most in-demand actresses of the late 1990s and 2000s, Cameron Diaz starred in a number of hit films, from “There’s Something About Mary” to “Charlie’s Angels” to “My Sister’s Keeper” to “Shrek.” In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, though, Diaz says she has now retired from acting.

Sitting down with “The Sweetest Thing” co-stars Christina Applegate and Selma Blair to reminisce about working on the film, the three discussed reuniting when Diaz said, “Maybe I should, you know, I mean, I’m down. I’m literally doing nothing.” After Applegate said she was semi-retired from acting to raise her children, Diaz responded, “I’m semi-retired, too, and I am actually retired, so I would love to see you ladies.”

The actress’ last on-screen appearance was in 2014’s “Annie.” Rumors of Diaz’s retirement first began swirling earlier this month when Blair said...

Review: 'Shameless' - 'The Two Lisas'
William H. Macy, Steve Howey, Cameron Monaghan, Shanola Hampton, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, and Emma Kenney in Shameless (2011)
A review of tonight's "Shameless" coming up just as soon as I play you something worth dying over... A whole lot happens in "The Two Lisas." Sheila, already fed up with Frank, watches her house explode and drives out of town in a stolen Rv, which I doubt is the last we'll see of her but maybe a good move for a character the show doesn't always know what to do with. Mandy also moves away with her abusive boyfriend, because Lip can't bring himself to come out and say that he loves her. JimmySteveJackJingleheimerSchmidt's friend keeps making passes at Fiona (who, interestingly, doesn't just tell her that she's straight), and after discovering that the singer who's been hitting on her has a girlfriend, Fiona goes home with another guy in the band. (The scene where she listens to music does a good job of illustrating how focused Fiona has...

The 9 Best Women of Reality/Game Show Hosting
When So You Think You Can Dance takes a week off, what is there to do? Well, here's what I've contrived: a celebration of the nine greatest female reality and/or game show hosts. Cat Deeley just gets me in the mood to talk about reliable on-screen flair, you know? Without further ado, here's a nonet of distaff emcees who make their respective shows both fun and cool. (And I admit, I'm more sympathetic to game show hosts since they're simply tasked with more work.)

9. Nancy Pimental, Win Ben Stein's Money

Well after Jimmy Kimmel had moved on, Ben Stein shared the podium of his amazing game show Win Ben Stein's Money with the quippy and very underrated Nancy Pimental. She had the even-keel, can-do demeanor of MTV's great lady VJs like Tabitha Soren and Kennedy, except she enjoyed the luxury of being able to spew constant innunedo.

2012 TV Pilot Review – Soaps and Remakes
After the high profile and, what Hollywood execs like to call “high concept” shows of last week’s article, this week I will be going through new pilots which follow two trends I like to call “remaking is breaking” and “Desperate Housewives is over and Grey’s Anatomy has got to end sometime”.

Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives have been big ratings pulls in the coveted demographic (18-49 if you don’t know) for ABC and have meant big advertising bucks. And, even though Grey’s prolific creator Shonda Rhimes, who will be show running three to five shows next season depending on pickups, has claimed that Grey’s will move past eight seasons, there is a general sense that the show is on the decline and, coupled with the loss of Desperate Housewives at the end of the current season, there is a definite hole in the market.

TV pilots mega list: Cops, magic, and cults for fall
When there’s two rival Beauty and the Beast projects, you gotta think a trend is forming. Following the success of ABC’s top-rated new drama Once Upon a Time (and to a lesser extent, NBC’s Grimm), broadcast-network pilot season seems to have a greater than usual number of projects with fantasy or supernatural elements — along with a ton of shows about federal agents, everyday cops, doctors, conspiracies, and cults. The magical-realism trend is partly a continuation from last year’s pilot season. This time around, however, there seems to be fewer head-turning TV reboots ideas in the mix...

NBC will remake "Bad Girls," possibly ruin the greatest lesbian love story ever told
Nearly every lesbian I know has that TV show, or that movie, or that book, or that song. You know the one I'm talking about. The one where you're watching it or reading it or listening to it, and for the very first time everything just clicks into place: "Oh, right. I'm a raging homosexual." For me, that show was the 1990s UK prison drama Bad Girls. Adding to the personal poignancy is the fact that Scribegrrrl's Bad Girls recaps wove such a magic spell around me, infused me with such a sense of wonder and reverence, that I began to dream of a time when I, too, might be able to write recaps for AfterEllen.com.

The show means a lot to me, is what I am saying. So you'll understand why I had to be borne away to my fainting couch where I wept bitter, anxious tears when...
