Rumor: Obi-wan Kenobi Season 2 Is Now "In Development" At Lucasfilm Following Fan Demand
Image
Obi-Wan Kenobi was originally conceived as a movie and would have fallen under the "A Star Wars Story" banner. Solo's poor box office performance ended that possibility, and with Disney eager to bolster its streaming offerings, it became a six-part TV series.

Despite some divisive ideas and characters, the show was a hit and was praised for filling in the gaps between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Lucasfilm even found a way to give fans an Obi-Wan vs. Darth Vader rematch, leading to that now-iconic scene where we caught a glimpse of what remains of Anakin Skywalker beneath the Sith Lord's helmet.

With a decade to go until Ben's demise on the Death Star, Star Wars fans are optimistic that a second season could happen, potentially exploring the Jedi Master's rivalry with Maul by expanding what we saw in Star Wars Rebels.

After Ahsoka, Another Star Wars Show on Disney+ Is Reportedly Moving Forward With a Second Season
Image
Ahsoka may no longer be the only recent live-action Star Wars series to receive a second season. A new rumor claims that Lucasfilm is in development on another season of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

According to Daniel Richtman (via The Direct), Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is now in development at Lucasfilm. Unfortunately, the scooper did not indicate when the second season might go into production or be released on Disney+. Originally envisioned as a solo film, Obi-Wan Kenobi was redeveloped into a limited series following the financial failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story. With the physical media release of Obi-Wan Kenobi labeling it as "The Complete Series" as opposed to "Season 1," it's clear that Lucasfilm initially had no intention of continuing the Disney+ show despite fan interest.

Set a decade after the Jedi Order was purged during the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, the first season...

Hayden Christensen Reveals Surprising Reason He Didn't Voice Anakin in Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Image
In 2022, the Star Warsfranchise saw the return of Hayden Christensen to the role of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader when the actor appeared in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, Christensen voiced that he was open to returning to the character that he played in two prequel films, Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, long before Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered.

Per Screen Rant, in a video from a 2008 red carpet, Christensen divulged why he didn’t end up voicing Anakin/Vader in George Lucas’ animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which ran from 2008 to 2020. In the interview, Christensen said, “I never got the call” to voice Anakin in The Clone Wars.

When asked if he would be interested in doing a voice in The Clone Wars, Christensen said, “I would be, of course, yeah, so tell them to ask me about that,...

10 Most Tragic TV Show Characters Who Could Not Catch A Break
Image
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series delves into Obi-Wan's character, highlighting the effects of his past. Anna from Downton Abbey faces constant obstacles before she and her husband settle down with their son. Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad suffers constant misfortune due to Walt, causing a series of tragedies.

Some characters on certain TV shows just can't catch a break; if the series is long-running, and they are always a regular, the feeling that they have suffered too much becomes widespread in the fandom. Some of the longest-running TV show franchises feature characters where the series makes a running gag out of their bad luck. However, several characters from shorter shows also have the worst luck, possibly when considering the events of a larger franchise.

In more comedic series, the character with bad luck is probably played for laughs. On the other hand, major characters in dramatic shows with more dangerous...

“I never got to see that scene”: A Natalie Portman Deleted Scene Never Made it in Star Wars Episode 2 All Because of George Lucas and His Infamous Last Minute Decisions
Image
Filmmaker George Lucas is known for capturing the imagination of millions with his Star Wars franchise. He directed 2002’s Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, which served as an important juncture in the Skywalker saga. However, Lucas has been extremely notorious when it comes to making these movies.

Star Wars: Attack of the Clones deleted a Natalie Portman scene because of George Lucas’ tinkering (Credit: Lucasfilm).

The filmmaker constantly tinkered with the finer details until the last moment. Lucas’ tinkering affected some of the scenes in Attack of the Clones, including one Natalie Portman scene, which would have provided more screentime to one underrated character. Here is everything you need to know about the deleted scene from Attack of the Clones.

How Old Luke Skywalker Was In Every Star Wars Movie & TV Show He Appeared In
Image
Luke Skywalker's journey from farm boy to Jedi master is a cornerstone of the Star Wars franchise. Luke's age at different points in the series informs his character development and motivations. Mark Hamill's return as Luke Skywalker in various Star Wars projects showcases the character's growth.

Luke Skywalker is one of the most iconic characters in Star Wars, but the characters age throughout the franchise may be surprising. Luke Skywalker was the main character in the original Star Wars trilogy, with his journey from small farm boy on Tatooine to hero of the galaxy becoming one of the most well-known in history. Luke was the first character audiences ever got to see become a Jedi, and his journey has helped craft the entire Star Wars franchise after the original trilogy.

Originally, Luke Skywalker was called Luke Starkiller - a surname that has since been used in the Star Wars franchise.

“I deleted every Childish Gambino song I had”: O’Shea Jackson Jr. Details His Frustration After Losing a Legendary Star Wars Role Because of Donald Glover
Image
Who has not felt the sting of a missed opportunity, especially when you have come so close to your big break? For O’Shea Jackson Jr., the brush with a galaxy far, far away was definitely a bitter pill to swallow—one that the fandom of both Star Wars and the actor can empathize with.

Rising to fame as an actor in F. Gary Gray’s 2015 biopic film, Straight Outta Compton, Jackson Jr.’s talent has been evident. Earlier this year, moreover, his candidness about the disappointment of losing a coveted role in Ron Howard’s 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story to Donald Glover was as relatable as it was commendable.

"One Of His Favorite Things": George Lucas' Thoughts On Obi-Wan Kenobi TV Series Revealed By Lucasfilm Exec
Image
George Lucas fully supports the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show and considers it one of his favorite things from Star Wars. The show takes place after the events of Revenge of the Sith, focusing on Obi-Wan's protection of Luke Skywalker on Tatooine. Ewan McGregor returns as Obi-Wan, and Hayden Christensen reprises his role as Darth Vader.

George Lucas has mostly stepped away from Star Wars since Disney bought Lucasfilm, but a new interview from one of the company's executives revealed Lucas' true thoughts about the Obi-Wan Kenobi television show.

In an interview on the Full of Sith podcast, Pablo Hidalgo, who is considered the "senior Star Wars lore advisor," at Lucasfilm, said that George Lucas thoroughly enjoyed Obi-Wan Kenobi.

"Early on there was a conversation had with George [Lucas] over what his thoughts were, and whether or not, honestly, he bought the whole concept, and he was one hundred percent supportive.

Why Hayden Christensen's Star Wars Return Meant He Had To Hold His Breath For Two & A Half Minutes
Image
Hayden Christensen returned as Anakin Skywalker & Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi, facing challenges like underwater filming. Christensen had to hold his breath for Vader's bacta tank scenes, practicing breath-holding techniques to endure long submerged moments. Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place 10 years post-Revenge of the Sith, depicting Obi-Wan's struggle to protect the future.

Hayden Christensen's long-awaited Star Wars return presented the actor with a unique challenge during the filming of a now-iconic moment from Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi. The actor first made his Star Wars debut in 2003 in Episode II - Attack of the Clones as impulsive Jedi Padawan Anakin Skywalker, before Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith would depict the final steps towards his path to the Dark Side in 2005. Christensen would make his return in 2022 with Obi-Wan Kenobi, reprising the role of both Anakin Skywalker, as well as donning the armor of the Sith Lord Darth Vader.

Latest Star Wars Blu-Ray Announcements Are Disappointing News For Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2
Image
Disney+ confirms Obi-Wan Kenobi as a limited series through its Blu-Ray listing. No future seasons are expected, as it is listed as "The Complete Series". The Blu-Ray release is slated for April 20.

Disney+'s latest batch of Blu-ray home releases carries some disappointing news as the listing for Obi-Wan Kenobi's home release seemingly confirms the production as a limited series. The 2022 Disney+ series saw the return of Ewan McGregor as a disillusioned Obi-Wan during his Tatooine exile. Alongside McGregor and newcomers Moses Ingram, Indira Varma, and Kumail Nanjiani, Obi-Wan Kenobi also saw the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader

Despite Obi-Wan Kenobi ending with the Jedi finding new hope, Disney+'s latest Blu-Ray announcements have hinted that viewers shouldn't expect future seasons. While Moon Knight, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Andor's listings specifically name them as first seasons, the 2022 series was listed as "The Complete Series." Like WandaVision's home release,...

Rumors Of Beru's Star Wars Comeback Started Years Before Obi-Wan Kenobi
Image
Of all the characters introduced in the "Star Wars" original trilogy, it's hard to think of two who were, for a long time, done a greater disservice than Owen Lars and Beru Whitesun Lars. As the adoptive parents of Luke Skywalker, they're pivotal to the narrative; unfortunately, the stories that were being told post "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope" didn't require more than a brief drop-in on the Tatooine farmers.

Their best bet at extended screen time came during the prequel trilogy, but, even then, they're just humble desert folk eking out a living while the galaxy succumbs to the fascist tyranny of the Sith. So while it was nice to see a little more of the couple (portrayed in the prequels by Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse), knowing what we thought we knew of Obi-Wan Kenobi's exploits between the prequels and the Ot, it seemed like...

Star Wars Episode II Filmed A Last Minute Beru Scene Only To Scrap It In The End
Image
"Star Wars" has some great female characters that have made the franchise the cultural phenomenon that it is today. Characters like Leia Organa, the badass that ended the reign of Jabba the Hutt and stood up to Darth Vader like he was just a darkly-clad bully, or Padmé, who helped start the Rebel Alliance and saved Grogu from death. Sure, they may not get flashy medals at a ceremony or a battle against a Sith, but these characters are as essential to the fabric of the galaxy far, far away as any Jedi.

Still, the franchise has an unfortunate track record of forgetting about its female characters — for example, deleting the scene where Padmé starts the Rebellion. Such is the case with the all-time second female character we ever see in the franchise, Aunt Beru, a character who shows up for just a few minutes before dying in the original "Star Wars" movie.

Obi Wan-Kenobi's Ewan McGregor Offers Unfortunate Season 2 Update

Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor has an update on Season 2 over a year after the Star Wars spin-off premiered on Disney+.

McGregor's portrayal of the Jedi Master was praised by critics and fans who have been hoping for a second season. However, according to the actor, it doesn't seem likely. Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Offers Disappointing Season 2 Update

Obi-Wan Kenobi star Joel Edgerton knows as much as Star Wars fans do about a possible second season for the Disney+ series.

Star Wars Reveals the Identity of Temuera Morrison's Obi-Wan Kenobi Clone
Image
The new Star Wars: Dawn of the Republic: Visual Guide has revealed that Temuera Morrison's veteran clone trooper from the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi is none other than Nax, a member of the 501st Legion.

Unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2023 (via The Direct), the visual guide reveals -- under a section titled "The Rise of The Stormtrooper" -- that Morrison's character, who was credited simply as "Veteran Clone Trooper" in the Obi-Wan Kenobi episode, is actually Nax, who fought in the Battle of Teth, Cristophsis and Umbara. The character previously made his Star Wars debut in the novelization of the 2008 animated film, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. According to the visual guide, following the Clone Wars, Nax's body has begun to rapidly decline from age acceleration and neglect.

1 Year Ago, Star Wars Deepened A Forgettable A New Hope Scene In The Divisive Obi-Wan Kenobi Finale
Image
One year ago, Obi-Wan Kenobi's season finale added surprising new depth to an underwhelming scene featuring Owen (Joel Edgerton) and Beru Lars (Bonnie Piesse) in the original Star Wars movie. Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen have been prominent (albeit under-developed) Star Wars characters since the first installment in the franchise in 1977. Since then, the characters have appeared in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, and Obi-Wan Kenobi as Luke Skywalker's guardians.

Despite these appearances, their first and last - at least concerning release dates, not chronologically - are intrinsically linked. Their first appearance in A New Hope ends in tragedy, though it is the final scene before this in which they are seen alive that links to their roles in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Through the Disney+ show, Beru and Owen are given a lot more depth in a short time,...

Why One Star Wars Prequel Actor Wanted to Return for the Obi-Wan Series
Image
Obi-Wan Kenobi's Joel Edgerton can trace his career opportunities back to George Lucas casting him in Star Wars.

Speaking to NME about his new role in Paul Schrader's Master Gardener, Edgerton reflected on the personal impact of playing young Owen Lars in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones over 20 years ago. "I owe so much in my career to George [Lucas, Star Wars; creator] giving me that job," he said, explaining how "it opened all the doors to Hollywood. It allowed everyone in L.A. to kind of welcome me and go, 'Oh, he's in Star Wars. Let's give him an audition for other things.'" For Edgerton, reprising that part in Obi-Wan Kenobi was "a way to complete a circle of some kind."

Aunt Beru Was Always A Badass (Obi-Wan Kenobi Just Proved It)
Image
Aunt Beru has always been a likable Star Wars character, with the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ TV show only proving just how much of a badass she truly was. Originally played by Shelagh Fraser, Beru was introduced in the first Star Wars film (later called A New Hope). This was an older Beru, a steadying hand to guide the young Luke Skywalker. She entered the picture alongside Phil Brown's Owen Lars as Luke's aunt before the tragic fate that befalls both characters after the Empire learned of their nephew's ownership of C-3Po and R2-D2.

Despite having positive qualities in the prequel trilogy Star Wars films, which established a background for Beru, her return in Obi-Wan Kenobi added the strongest layers. These elements introduced in the final episode of the Disney+ show work in their own right, but make some of Aunt Beru aspects from A New Hope more prominent.

The Vow is returning with a six-episode second season, promising a rare view into Nxivm founder Keith Raniere’s innermost circle, including co-founder Nancy Salzman.

“My whole company was destroyed and my whole life fell apart,” says Salzman, Nxivm’s president and co-founder with Raniere, in the trailer (below), which also features Raniere speaking from prison. “Going into this, I thought Keith was innocent. I was wrong,” Salzman tells the filmmakers.

HBO's "The Vow" is returning for a second season, and the official trailer, which dropped on Sept. 22, shows that it will pick up where the first season left off: Diving into the Nxivm cult's downfall after the exposure of its sordid inner workings.

‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Finale: A Bridge Between Prequels That Packs an Emotional Punch
Image
No one needed “Obi-Wan Kenobi.”

The Star Wars limited series on Disney+ was always going to tread familiar territory, picking up with the aging Jedi (Ewan McGregor) between events of “Revenge of the Sith” and “A New Hope.” Most characters’ fates were known between existing Star Wars shows and movies, which arguably lowered the show’s narrative stakes — but ultimately increased its emotional impact.

The final episode is as strong a case as any for “Obi-Wan Kenobi” to remain a one-season wonder. The show is six episodes of galactic therapy for fans and characters who spent years reconciling what happened between “Revenge of the Sith” and “A New Hope,” but it neatly threads that needle and doesn’t need to continue. McGregor may not reprise this character or utter the words “Hello there” ever again, but it is a satisfying sendoff that leaves the character with something resembling catharsis.

At its core,...

How Joining "Obi-Wan Kenobi" Helped Bonnie Piesse Heal After Nxivm
Image
Bonnie Piesse has taken a long journey back to the Star Wars universe. The actor first appeared in "Attack of the Clones" in 2002 as teenage Beru, who will eventually become Luke Skywalker's Aunt Beru in "A New Hope." Now, the actress is reprising her role in Disney+'s "Obi-Wan Kenobi." But there's a good chance you saw her more recently in something else: Piesse was one of the major voices that spoke out against the Nxivm cult in HBO's "The Vow."

When she first got cast in "Attack of the Clones," Piesse wasn't exactly a Star Wars fanatic. She knew the movie was filming in Australia and wondered if she could get a role in it. "I kind of wished for it," she says. Then they called her agent for an audition. "I guess they'd seen my photo on a casting website or something and they thought I looked like the older Beru,...

‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Joins ‘Stranger Things’ & ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ In Claiming Opening Weekend Record
Image
It was a clash of the titans over Memorial Day weekend with three mega franchises, Stranger Things, Star Wars and Top Gun, unspooling new installments on streaming platforms and in theaters. All three are claiming record showings, with two, Netflix’s Stranger Things and Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick, providing numbers to back up their statements.

Disney+ announced today that new series Obi-Wan Kenobi is the most-watched Disney+ original series premiere globally to date, based on hours streamed in an opening weekend. No data was released to support the claim. The streamer also noted that, immediately following the Obi-Wan Kenobi series premiere launch, Star Wars title viewership on Disney+ tripled in hours-watched during opening weekend.

Stranger Things 4 Volume 1, which launched May 25, logged the biggest premiere weekend ever for a Netflix original series with 286.79 million hours viewed over the weekend, the streamer said today. The new installment also lifted the series’ previous seasons,...

Why the Queen of Alderaan Looks Different in "Obi-Wan Kenobi"
Image
The first two episodes of the much-anticipated Star Wars series "Obi-Wan Kenobi" finally premiered on Disney+ on May 27. Ewan McGregor reprises his role as the titular character in the live-action limited series, which picks up 10 years after the events of 2005's "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith" - McGregor's last appearance in the Star Wars franchise before leading "Obi-Wan Kenobi." The series boasts an impressive ensemble of actors, with veteran Star Wars cast members, including Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, and more, slipping back into their beloved roles. However, fans were surprised to see that the role of Breha Organa, Princess Leia's foster mother and wife of Bail Organa, had been recast. The character was played by Rebecca Jackson Mendoza in "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith."

Disney+ Adds ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Content Warning After Texas School Shooting
Image
Disney+ added a warning to the page of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” that some viewers may find “certain scenes” in the Star Wars series “upsetting.”

That appeared to be in response to the mass shooting earlier this week at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, that left 19 children dead.

A message on some Disney+ accounts on the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” landing page on Friday read, “Although this fictional series is a continuation of the story from Star Wars movies filmed many years ago, some scenes may be upsetting to viewers in light of the recent tragic events. Warning: Contains violence involving children.”

Later in the day, that message appeared to have been shortened, with the update on Disney+ now reading: “There are certain scenes in this fictional series that some viewers may find upsetting.”

The details section for “Obi-Wan” also includes a disclaimer that reads, “Some flashing light sequences or patterns may affect photosensitive viewers.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 1 and 2 Easter Eggs Explained
Anthony Daniels, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, James Earl Jones, David Prowse, and Kenny Baker in Star Wars: Épisode IV - Un nouvel espoir (1977)
This Obi-Wan Kenobi article contains spoilers.

The Star Wars shows just keep coming. Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, almost evenly between the Prequel and Original Trilogies. This setting provides plenty of opportunities to connect the show to other parts of the saga, including with some very surprising cameos.

In just the first two episodes, Obi-Wan reluctantly leaves his mournful vigil over Luke Skywalker to help out an old friend from the Prequels, finding himself in the crosshairs of both bounty hunters and ruthless Imperial Inquisitors who serve Darth Vader. All to save an iconic Original Trilogy character!

Here are all the Star Wars references, easter eggs, and cameos we spotted in the two-episode premiere…

This Iconic Star Wars Character Returns in "Obi-Wan Kenobi"
Image
Disney was extremely secretive about the plot details of the new Star Wars series "Obi-Wan Kenobi," which started streaming episodes on May 27. Fans knew about a lot of the cast. Ewan McGregor would be back as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hayden Christensen would reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker, and Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse would return as Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, watching over a young Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely). But viewers didn't know that Luke's sister would be in the show, too. Vivien Lyra Blair plays a 10-year-old Princess Leia, and from the first moment she's on screen, she's an absolute delight.

Besides her birth, Leia's life before she got kidnapped by Darth Vader at the beginning of "A New Hope" has never been depicted in a Star Wars show or movie before. In "Obi-Wan Kenobi," Leia is a rambunctious, smart girl who's always getting into trouble and doesn't like...

Who’s Who in Disney+’s ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’
Image
The Star Wars canon is nothing if not its own galaxy’s worth of characters, stories, and other information. “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” premiering May 27 on Disney+, brings back the eponymous fan favorite, but that doesn’t mean viewers can rewatch the prequels and call it a day before venturing into this series (many would probably rather not).

The character of Obi-Wan Kenobi has ties to the original Star Wars trilogy and prequels, as well as events and characters from the animated “Clone Wars” and “Rebels” series, both of which are available on Disney+. But if you don’t have time to watch — *checks notes* — 11 seasons of TV ahead of “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” fear not. Here’s a quick rundown of all the characters confirmed for the series, as well as a handful we might see from the wider Star Wars universe.

1. Obi-Wan Kenobi

It’s only the titular role, originated in 1977 by...

Lucasfilm Warned ‘Obi-Wan’ Star Moses Ingram About Racist ‘Star Wars’ Hate: It Will ‘Likely Happen’
Image
Lucasfilm is aware of the dark side of “Star Wars” fandom.

After John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran received racist fan harassment following their respective roles in the recent Skywalker trilogy, the production company behind the franchise is bracing for backlash over Poc stars.

Moses Ingram, who plays a villainous Inquisitor in upcoming Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” hunting the Jedi trainer (Ewan McGregor), revealed that Lucasfilm was proactive in media training ahead of the series premiering May 27.

“It was something that Lucasfilm actually got in front of, and said, ‘This is a thing that, unfortunately, likely will happen. But we are here to help you; you can let us know when it happens,'” Ingram told The Independent.

Ingram noted that “Obi-Wan Kenobi” director Deborah Chow has been “putting the proper systems in place so I feel safe as we do the work” throughout production. “Of course, there are always pockets of hate,...

Why ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Won’t Be in the Emmy Race for 2022 (Exclusive)
Image
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” will have to wait on using the force for the Emmys until 2023. Variety has learned the upcoming limited series will not be submitted nor eligible for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards consideration.

The excitement for the “Star Wars” Disney+ limited series that stars Emmy winner Ewan McGregor (last year’s winner for lead actor in a limited series for “Halston”) and Hayden Christensen is palpable after dropping a new trailer last week that finally revealed a glimpse at the villainous Darth Vader.

With Sith villains, lightsabers and the sands of Tatooine, the six-part series is set to have its first two episodes premiere on May 27. Still, it won’t have its episodes available for the Television Academy in time for voting consideration.
