A Prog-Rock Bonanza: Anthony Phillips Reissued
Anthony Phillips The Geese and the Ghost Wise After the Event Sides Private Parts & Pieces I-iv Harvest of the Heart (Esoteric/Cherry Red)   Anthony "Ant" Phillips, an original member of Genesis, left after their second album (Trespass, 1970) because of stage fright -- an especially problematic situation, one supposes, for the lead guitarist. He spent the ensuing years studying music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (which is to say classical music), along with occasionally recording demos of new material at home. It would be seven years before his first solo album would appear, but after that he would be fairly prolific. Though he never achieved mainstream success -- which sadly makes sense given that this progressive rock legend didn't issue anything in 1971-76, the peak prog years -- aficionados of the style have long admired his work. Cherry Red's Esoteric imprint is now in its third year of...

Clems’ Carlton Beer Chase ad races home to win ad of the month
The latest in the series of ‘Made From Beer’ ads from Clemenger Bbdo Melbourne for beer brand Carlton Draught has romped home as the winner of August’s ad of the month, as voted by Mumbrella’s readers.

The ad is an elaborate spoof of seventies’ car chase movies and features a gang of Aussies stopping off for a beer after a bank robbery only to discover the pub is full of cops. A chase on foot ensures, during which the gang hang on to their beers, spilling barely a drop while evading capture. The ad features Stan Bush covering the poodle-rock classic “Thunder in Your Heart”.

Carlton Draught parodies ’80s Hollywood car pursuits in ‘beer chase’ ad
Beer brand Carlton Draught has released a new ad, the latest in the popular Made From Beer series.

Beer Chase was created by Clemenger Bbdo Melbourne, which has been responsible for the beer brands’ previous work including Slo Mo and Big Ad.

The latest spot plays on action movie clichés as four bank robbers celebrate a successful heist with a beer, only to realise the pub is full of police, and a foot chase ensues over a cheesy 1980′s soundtrack.

Launched online today with a 90-second version, the ad will go live during the football Afl and Nrl finals on September 7, followed by a 60 second version as well as three 30 second versions based around a different scene.

The ad will also go out in cinemas before action films.

Andrew Meldrum, general manager of marketing for Carlton said: “There’s a lot to live up to when you sit down to...

Peter Gabriel skipping Genesis' Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction
New York – When Genesis gets inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next month, founding member Peter Gabriel won't be there. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame president Joel Peresman said in a statement Thursday that Gabriel says he has a scheduling conflict with his tour that begins in Europe. Along with Gabriel, the band's original lineup included Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, Anthony Phillips and Steve Hackett. Phil Collins joined the band later and replaced Gabriel as lead vocalist in 1976. Genesis was inspirational in the progressive rock movement. Gabriel's vision helped define the genre's theatrical approach to...
