The classic coming-of-age ABC series The Wonder Years -- following the childhood of Fred Savage’s Kevin Arnold, as told from the perspective of his older self -- ended its run in 1993. The popular TV program also starred Danica McKellar as Kevin’s crush Winnie Cooper, and the actor looks back fondly at her experience on the show.
McKellar -- marking 32 years since the show concluded -- posted to Instagram, sharing some behind-the-scenes photos from the final day on set. In one photo, McKellar is shown standing with Josh Saviano, who played Kevin’s best friend Paul Pfeiffer, and Savage. Another photo showed the trio cutting a celebratory cake with Daniel Stern (who narrated the series as an adult Kevin) and others.

ABC has handed a pilot production commitment to The Wonder Years, a new iteration of the network’s 1980s family comedy-drama. It comes from Dave executive producer Saladin K. Patterson, Empire co-creator Lee Daniels, the original series’ breakout star Fred Savage and 20th Century Fox TV.
Written by Patterson inspired by his experiences growing up in Montgomery, Al, the new incarnation of Wonder Years chronicles how a middle-class Black family in Montgomery in the turbulent late-1960s — the same era as the original series — made sure it was the Wonder Years for them too.
The approach is reminiscent of the successful current reimagining of the classic family sitcom One Day at a Time with a Latinx family.

Here’s a fun tweet I came across from Danica McKellar, who played Winnie Cooper on the TV show The Wonder Years. She wrote in the tweet that she got to have lunch with her former co-stars, Fred Savage, who played the lead role of Kevin Arnold, and Josh Saviano, who played the best friend, Paul Pfeiffer. She said
I got to see these guys for lunch yesterday - it was so much fun to catch up and hear how their beautiful families are doing! And yes, @joshsaviano, I totally agree - *you guys* are like family... I mean, we Did grow up together, after all. #memories #TheWonderYears
And that just makes me so dang happy. The Wonder Years is my favorite show of all time. I grew up with these characters, and although the show is largely about a boy growing up in the 60’s and 70’s, it strikes...

For the next three weeks, Vulture is holding a High-School-tv Showdown to determine the greatest teen show of the past 30 years. Each day, a different writer will be charged with determining the winner of a round of the bracket, until New York Magazine TV critic Matt Zoller Seitz judges the finals on November 13. Today's battle: Ryan McGee judges The Wonder Years versus Veronica Mars. After you read, be sure to visit Vulture's Facebook page to vote on which show you think should advance. Apples and oranges. That’s what it looks like on the surface when comparing The Wonder Years and Veronica Mars. The former’s a nostalgia-laced late-’80s dramedy about American life in the Vietnam War era, while the latter’s a wide-eyed modern-day detective noir. How does one compare Wayne Arnold to Wallace Fennell? How does one draw the line between Paul Pfeiffer and Stosh Piznarski? The...

Created by Neal Marlens and Carol Black, The Wonder Years tells the story of Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage) as he faces the trials and tribulations of youth while growing up during the 1960s. Told through narration from the perspective of an adult Kevin (Daniel Stern), the character recounts his adolescent years in suburbia as a mishmash of major world events and personal childhood traumas. When the series began, it was set in the historically significant year of 1968. Using the backdrop of a transitional time in America’s history, the coming-of-age tale brings emotion and context to moments that would shape a nation. Yet, it’s surprisingly the smaller moments that chart the rocky terrain of childhood that we remember most. Snapshots of adolescence, from baseball games and holiday dinners to school dances and a first kiss, and all the moments in between, are what makes The Wonder Years so timelessly appealing.

Back in May, the cast of the Emmy-winning coming-of-age TV series The Wonder Years reunited to film some extras for the show's DVD release. The beloved show about growing up in the 1960s (filmed in the late '80s and early '90s) has been off the air for two decades, and the actors hadn't all gotten together in over 16 years.
Stars Fred Savage and Jason Hervey shared a few "sneak peek" pics on Twitter, but the general public would have to wait a little longer to fully indulge in our childhood nostalgia.
Well, that long wait has finally come to an end.

Last night at 92Y, our favorite Robert F. Kennedy Junior-High-Schoolers — Kevin Arnold, Winnie Cooper, and Paul Pfeiffer — waxed nostalgic before 200 fans during their “first public appearance together in front of a live audience,” promoting season one of The Wonder Years on DVD. Only hours had passed since Fred Savage, Danica McKellar, and Josh Saviano appeared on Good Morning America together, so there weren’t many hugs or how’ve-you-beens exchanged backstage. Still, it was fun to watch them watch generation-old clips of their precocious selves selected by the effusive moderator, "Fresh Air" TV critic David Bianculli. Vulture picked up a few factoids at the event. It took six takes to film Kevin and Winnie’s first kiss. During take one, McKellar’s smile got in the way and she rolled her eyes. Director Steve Miner told Savage to give McKellar his coat, but he wound up stroking her hair on...

Now that it’s finally been released on DVD, we look at the TV shows that built on The Wonder Years’ foundations…
The Wonder Years, famous for being the show that made a generation of kids nostalgic for a decade they’d never even set foot in, finally arrived on DVD this month following the resolution of a years-long music rights tangle. Neal Marlens and Carol Black’s comedy drama ran for six seasons between 1988 and 1993 on ABC, following Fred Savage’s Kevin Arnold through his late-sixties and early-seventies suburban adolescence.
Thematically, stylistically, and tonally, The Wonder Years blazed a trail for television comedy and teen-focused drama that was subsequently traipsed down by numerous shows, from the superlative Freaks And Geeks and My So-Called Life to How I Met Your Mother, Malcolm In The Middle and countless others. Its innovative film-style use of a single-camera, lack of laughter track, fourth-wall breaking,...

The Wonder Years
Cast: Fred Savage, Josh Saviano, Danica McKellar, Dan Lauria, Alley Mills, Daniel Stern, Jason Hervey
Due Out: October 7, 2014
Who’S It For? “The Wonder Years” is timeless. Thankfully it doesn’t feel dated simply because I was a child of the ’80s trying to understand life in the late ’60s. “The Wonder Years” was my gateway drug to a nostalgia I didn’t even know. Like many of you, I grew up with Kevin. I hoped for Winnie, I had friends like Paul (and probably was Paul more than I realized).
I can’t wait to show “The Wonder Years” to my son. I’ll have to wait, because he hasn’t even turned two yet, but now I have six episodes to show him, and hopefully that will just be the beginning.

The Wonder Years, Season 1, Episode 1 “Pilot”
Directed by Steve Miner
Written by Neal Marlens and Carol Black
Aired January 31, 1988
The Wonder Years is a series built on and steeped in nostalgia: the first images we see and sounds we hear of the series are news footage of events from 1968, set to the The Byrds’ “Turn, Turn, Turn”. But The Wonder Years takes the idea of nostalgia even further: it’s not just a love letter to the Sixties in the suburbs, it is a look back at the trials and tribulations of adolescence, of the singular yet universal experience of being a child perched on the edge of adulthood. Thus, it is a show that appeals to more than just aging Boomers or Gen Xers who may have come of age at or around the same time as Kevin Arnold, the series’ main character – whatever decade it may have taken place,...

Well, here’s some unexpected and tremendous news: The Wonder Years, the ’80s-’90s Fred Savage series about growing up in the ’60s-’70s, is coming to DVD in late 2014 featuring “virtually every song” from its immense soundtrack. That is quite a feat. The DVDs will include tracks from The Beatles, Van Morrison, Smokey Robinson, Bob Dylan, and Joni Mitchell, and thank God, because this show is not the same without “The Circle Game” playing over footage of the Arnold family’s home movies. Netflix made the series available for viewing without any of the show’s big tunes (even the Joe Cocker opener of “With a Little Help from My Friends” was altered), so this is a particularly huge revelation.
I’ve always been shocked by how much this show resonates with me. It’s a show about an adolescent heterosexual everyman, but Kevin Arnold’s experiences still felt specific,...

Netflix has just landed the end all be all of previously unavailable, home viewing content. I’m a Chuckie. There. I said it. It’s taken me a long time to come to terms with this, but the character I always identified with most on Nickelodeon’s Rugrats was Chuckie Finster, the nervous, eternally put-upon baby with the bright red mop top and the thick glasses. Chuckie was the doubter, the overthinker, the kid who would sigh and say “I triiiiied” in that tonsillitis-y whine of his. If seven of the show’s babies were going to jump over a puddle and one was going to fall in, Chuckie would be the kid who ended up with the wet shorts.

You may have noticed that we here at PopWatch Central have spent the summer on a bit of a nostalgia kick — and who can blame us, what with 1980s cartoon series becoming box office sensations and the new 1990s block on TeenNick burning up ratings charts and Twitter feeds. But one show stands equal to none when it comes to detonating a nostalgia bomb, and that, my friends, is The Wonder Years.
And that is because this Emmy-winning, groundbreaking dramedy — a chronicle of the junior high and high school years of suburban everykid Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage) from 1968 to 1973 — is a double-dutch nostalgia bomb.
