2017 will see the 40th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley, and it is presumably this milestone that Weinstein Television is aiming for with a high profile biopic of the legendary entertainer. Elvis will be groundbreaking, in that it will see the company partner with the Presley Estate, along with Priscilla Presley (widow of Elvis), Jerry Schilling (member of Presley’s entourage), Harvey Weinstein and David Glasser (also of The Weinstein Company) as executive producers.

The 8-10 episode event will be based on the book Elvis, by Dave Marsh – a comprehensive study of the life and times of the man who changed music and pop culture forever. But, it is the unprecedented access to the star’s Graceland property, his private journals, and his personal effects that will make this project truly unique. Evidently, this type of opportunity has never before been provided.

This is my fourth year at San Diego Comic-Con, but not once have I ever stepped foot in the Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival - until today.  It's nearly impossible not to become totally preoccupied with all the major movies and TV shows flooding Ballroom 20 and Hall H, but in the Marriott Marquis adjacent to the convention center, there's a full fledged film festival underway. Last night, CBS served up the new promo/spoiler clip (below) for their upcoming "NCIS: Los Angles" episode 20 of season 5, and it appears that things will get very interesting and dramatic as Hetty tries to deny Kensi's return for a while, thinking she may not be ready, and more. USA‘s Fairly Legal is a show that didn’t click with me right away, and that’s something pretty rare when it comes to USA efforts. It was a little too interested in its own gimmick, and played to hard at selling the “mediation as character trait,” angle by which it was trying to develop, not only the main character, but all of the characters she ran into.

But, it’s also a show that has, I think, taken on the idea of working through the flaws and stumbles, and developed quickly into a show that presents a very different persona (as a show) than what we had during the first few episodes.

I want to give you a little preview of the next episode, which involves Kate getting in a little too deep with a corporate whistle blower, but I also have a great Prize Pack available for one lucky winner.

Without being boring, the facts are these: in 1997, Allan Arkush made a TV movie — aptly titled Elvis Meets Nixon – about the time Elvis Presley met Richard Nixon. It’s a comedy. Tfh favorite Kevin McCarthy pops up uncredited as Deep Throat. And, as far as I know, the film’s not currently available for viewing in anywhere, unless you happen to have a cable package that includes Showtime Beyond.

Rick Peters is Elvis Presley and Bob Gunton is Richard Nixon in this true story that’s stranger than fiction. For a few days in 1970, the King stole away from his high-profile life for a clandestine meeting with the president and one of history’s oddest photo opportunities. Odd feelings all-round for this second episode of the season. Not that I don't find most of Jane's (Simon Baker) antics amusing, but this was more of a farce with a goal in sight that took way too long to be achieved. And I don't like seeing other agents making themselves at home in Team Lisbon's bullpen. Period. It seems our little band of agents is still feeling the effects of the botched operation against the Red John-ish minion that Jane blew away. Lisbon (Robin Tunney) is suspended. Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) is working glorified guard duty at the front door, Cho (Tim Kang) has been reassigned and Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) is still getting her head shrunk for being involved with a homicidal minion. Jane isn't happy about it, but Bertram has assigned him back to work with a new team who has effectively moved right into Lisbon's team's home.

Released on home video in 1994, Night of the Demons 2 is a bit of a surprise. The MPAA had spent the past decade beating up horror films is response to the slasher craze. The failure of the new Nc-17 rating was becoming evident, as most theaters and newspaper listings treated films with the rating like pornographic features (Showgirls didn't help much). The advent of home video was raising new concerns about children getting a hold of unrated horror films - with no one remembering that a decade ago, retailers were selling Rambo 2 toys to children.

So along comes this sequel to the cult classic with full frontal nudity and more gore than the original. Yet it earns an R-rating, which might seem rather surprising. Perhaps the MPAA was swayed by the ending,...

If I was at all preoccupied with figuring out what The Event is, last night's whirlwind hour of implausible plot twists had me very distracted. 

How did Sean Walker wind up in a cheap motel room with a female FBI agent handcuffed to a bed?  His girlfriend, tied up and thrown into the back of a van would like to know, but she's in the midst of a bitch slapping contest with her old drinking buddy, Vicky.  But I'm getting ahead of myself here.

The episode opens with Sean and his two new FBI BFFs headed back to the Yuma field office, except there's a problem.  That plane crash that Walker keeps yakking about in the backseat while the two agents keep begging him to shut up?  Well, it's blocking the road ahead.  Of course, that's not what the state trooper manning the roadblock says.  No, it's just a jack-knifed gas tanker or some such.

Anna Kendrick has really struck the gold with her Natalie Keener role in "Up in the Air". Having won the National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actress and been nominated at the 67th Annual Golden Globes, the actress who plays Jessica Stanley in the "Twilight Saga" series is nominated for another prestigious awards, the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

On Thursday morning, December 17, the 24-year-old has been named among the nominees for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role. For the title, she will be competing against fellow "Up in the Air" star Vera Farmiga as well as other

nominees, Penelope Cruz of "Nine", Mo'Nique of "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire" and Diane Kruger of "Inglourious Basterds".

Beside Anna Kendrick, the Screen Actors Guild also put her co-star and leading

man of the drama movie George Clooney for the Best Actor category.

Next year's list of Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations puts three films and three television shows under three categories. In terms of number, critics' choice "Up in the Air" is battling it out with "Inglourious Basterds" and "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire" while "30 Rock" gets heavy competition from "Dexter" and "The Closer".

The nominees that were read out on Thursday, December 17, also revealed that several actors receive multiple nominations. In motion picture category, Penelope Cruz earns two for starring in "Nine". In television, Tina Fey scores also two for being the lead of "30 Rock". Her co-star Alec Baldwin is also having two chances to walk away with an award.

The morning the Screen Actors Guild announced the nominees for the 16th annual SAG awards. The actual ceremony will be held Saturday, January 23rd. There are a lot of gay-faves on the list of nominees.

For starters, Colin Firth picked up a nomination for A Single Man,and Sigourney Weaver is in the running for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries thanks to Prayers for Bobby.

Freshmen series Glee and Modern Family are competing against each other for Beest TV Comedy Ensemble.

And surprisingly (at least for me) the cast of True Blood is up for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

Nominees for the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) for both film and television categories were announced this morning. Michelle Monaghan and Chris O'Donnell announced the nominees at the Pacific Design Center's Silver Screen Theater in West Hollywood.

The 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be simulcast live nationally on TNT and TBS on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt, 7 p.m. Ct, and 6 p.m. Mt from the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center. Recipients of the stunt ensemble honors will be announced from the SAG Awards red carpet during the TNT.TV and TBS.Com live pre-show webcasts.
