Image
In an exclusive uInterview, Criag Shulz and Raymond Persi discuss their new special, Peanuts Presents: Welcome Home Franklin.

“I think that the purpose of the special is that we seem like we have a lot of differences. But if we are in the same room and let down our guards, we’ll see how much we actually have in common,” director Persi told uInterview. “Even the things that are different about us enrich each other, so we just have to be open to that.”

Co-writer Shulz, son of cartoonist Charles Schulz, said that his father would appreciate how the special goes “beyond the comic strip page.”

Peanuts' Welcome Home, Franklin Resolves 50-Year-Old Thanksgiving Special's Race Controversy
Image
Franklin's character is a symbol of progress since his introduction in the late '60s despite resistance. The new Peanuts special reimagines a Thanksgiving scene to emphasize unity and inclusivity. Craig Schulz and director Raymond S. Persi highlight the intention behind the revision for social impact.

Apple TV+'s latest offering in the Peanuts universe, Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin, is stirring up debate on social media, and addressing a 50-year-old controversy about the much-loved A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special that debuted in 1973. The new special shines a spotlight on Franklin Armstrong, a character celebrated for breaking racial barriers since his introduction into the comic strip in 1968.

The 1973 special has often been the subject of debate for a scene that depicted Franklin seated alone on one side of a dinner table, separated from the other characters, who sat grouped together on the opposite side. On the back of recent...

Un petit garçon appelé Charlie Brown (1969)
Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin Review
Un petit garçon appelé Charlie Brown (1969)
Plot: Franklin Anderson struggles to make new friends when he moves to a new state (possibly Minneapolis). However, after meeting Charlie Brown and entering a soap box derby race, Franklin learns valuable lessons about friendship and how winning isn’t everything.

Review: Moving to a new town is especially difficult when you’re a kid. In addition to being a social disadvantage in a school setting, your after-school playtime quickly becomes an exercise in manifesting imaginary friends. For Franklin Anderson, being popular was never an option. His dad moves around a lot, so Franklin jumps from one state to the next, living out of a suitcase and never settling in one place long enough to make honest-to-goodness friends. This pattern is about to change when he meets the Peanuts gang and learns that the traditional methods of making friends sometimes don’t apply.

Back in my day, we had specials...

‘Welcome Home, Franklin’ Peanuts Special Addresses Controversial Scene From Thanksgiving Special
Image
Apple TV+ dropped a new Peanuts special titled Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin, focusing on the comic strip’s first Black character, Franklin Armstrong.

When the trailer was unveiled, one moment got social media buzzing as it referenced the 1973 special A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. The controversial scene is where Franklin is seen sitting on one side of the dinner table while the rest sit on the opposite side.

‘Welcome Home, Franklin’

The new special, which is already streaming on Apple TV+, fixes that scene showing all the Peanuts characters rallying around Franklin.

Craig Schulz, son of Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz, recently addressed the controversy in an interview, revealing that his son Bryan told him about the issue with the scene.

“It was very important to my son Bryan,” Schulz told The Daily Beast. “He said, ‘This is our chance to kind of rectify the whole thing.’”

There’s an adorable moment in Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin when Franklin asks Charlie Brown a question. The two are chatting like any two young kids would when Franklin expresses his appreciation for the music of Stevie Wonder, Little Richard, and James Brown. Zootopia Available on Blu-ray June 7th
“I am just a dumb bunny, but, we are good at multiplying!”

When I reviewed Zootopia here at We Are Movie Geeks, I wrote”, the beautifully designed, brightly-hued Zootopia is breezier and bouncier than most. The animation work is dazzling, lovingly detailed without being overdone. I felt like I could reach out and pet these furry critters, especially in eye-popping 3D.” (read all of my review Here)

Now you can own Zootopia on Blu-ray thanks to Walt Disney Animation Studios!

Zootopia has broken records worldwide earning more than $900 million at the global box office to date. The best reviewed movie of 2016, critics and audiences around the world have fallen in love with the wonderfully innovative animal metropolis of Zootopia and the comedic chemistry of rookie rabbit officer Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and scam-artist fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman). It’s been called one of the best buddy cop comedies in years!

Zootopia Now Stands As Second Largest Original Movie In History
Featuring a cracking voice cast, lush animation and an entertaining story at its heart, Zootopia not only proved to be one of this year’s early crowd-pleasers, it also soared close to $1 billion at the international box office.

That’s an impressive tally as is, but what really fired Byron Howard and Rich Moore’s animation into the history books was the fact that Zootopia stands as a successful movie, yes, but also an original one. In a report by Forbes, the outlet reveals that Howard and Moore’s adventure is now second only to James Cameron’s Avatar in Hollywood’s ranking of highest-grossing original movies; that is, feature films “not based on a television show, a comic book, a novel, or a stage play.”

This, coupled with the barnstorming success of Captain America: Civil War has ensured Disney’s box office haul for the year is nearing $4 billion in total.

Zootopia Parody Posters Riff On This Year’s Oscars Nominees
Bridge of Sloths, Steve Paws, Mad Yax: Furry Road; In today’s latest round of parody posters for Zootopia, Disney’s anticipated animation presents this year’s Oscar contenders with a stylish twist.

Designed as a one-two punch to channel the excitement of this weekend’s 88th Academy Awards and, of course, the actual release of Byron Howard and Rich Moore’s feature on March 4, the gallery of images are a wonderful and timely riff on those films considered to represent cinema’s purple patch through 2015 and early 2016.

As for Zootopia, if the end product proves just as good as the House of Mouse’s marketing campaign, then we’re in for a treat. Centering on Ginnifer Goodwin’s Judy Hopps and Jason Bateman’s cunning scam artist Nick Wild, the animated romp is rooted in bright and colorful mammal metropolis completely devoid of humans.

Among the star-studded voice cast are Octavia Spencer,...

Judy Hopps Is On The Chase In Latest Clips For Disney’s Zootopia
In little under a month’s time, Disney will invite moviegoers into an entirely new and modernised animal kingdom for Zootopia, and Byron Howard and Rich Moore’s feature is bursting at the seems with personality.

Case in point: Cheetah Officer Clawhauser, who reports for duty in one of two new clips today, while the second has Ginnifer Goodwin’s Judy Hopps tower over Little Rodentia.

As a matter of fact, Goodwin’s lawful bunny is one of the two core characters anchoring Disney’s animation, partnering with Jason Bateman’s cunning scam artist Nick Wild to prove her worth to the local precinct. Governed by Idris Elba’s no-nonsense Chief Bogo, the police force of Zootopia is comprised of animals of all shapes and sizes – elephants included – and it’s a cast we can hardly wait to learn more about in a few weeks’ time.

Acting as the first...

New Zootopia Clip Has Idris Elba Address The Elephant In The Room
In the build up to its March debut, Disney Animation has been adopting a less-is-more approach with Byron Howard and Rich Moore’s Zootopia - a strategy exemplified by last month’s sloth-centric trailer lingering on a single scene to brilliant effect.

That’s not something you see too often, either, with movie trailers hailing from all genres often favoring a rat-a-tat pace that leaves the viewer teetering on the edge of sensory overload. But today, the House of Mouse continues to hit all the right notes in anticipation of Zootopia‘s arrival, with a new clip that features Idris Elba’s no-nonsense Chief Bogo addressing the literal elephant in the room.

Taking the odd-couple-solves-crime formula and situating it in a lush anthropomorphic kingdom, Disney’s new IP largely centers on the dynamic between Jason Bateman’s Nick Wild and Ginnifer Goodwin’s officer Judy Hopps. It’s the latter...

Disney Has Released a Second Full Trailer For Zootopia
We've got a new trailer for Disney's latest animated adventure, Zootopia, for you to watch. It doesn't seem like there's a lot of hype building for the film, but I think it looks like it will be a lot of fun. This latest trailer gives us a much better sense of what the story will be and introduces us to a lot of new characters. The first trailer basically just showed us a clip of the film featuring the two main characters trying to obtain information from the Dmv, which was being run by a bunch of slow moving sloths.

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew,...

Disney’s Zootopia Gets A Fun Full-Length Trailer
In what will very likely wind up being our last trailer of 2015, Walt Disney Pictures has released a new, full-length teaser for the upcoming animated animal comedy adventure, Zootopia.

Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon A Time) joins him as rabbit police Lt. Judy Hopps, who’s trying to prove that she has what it takes to be a real cop.

Here’s the full synopsis:

Latest Zootopia Posters Riff On Star Wars, Jurassic World And More
From Star Wars: The Force Awakens to Jurassic World, Fifty Shades of Grey to Alex Garland’s really rather brilliant Ex Machina, the latest batch of posters for Disney’s Zootopia riff on some of the biggest blockbuster releases of 2015 – and the results are wonderful.

It’s fair to say that movie posters have become increasingly unremarkable, with seemingly every action movie adhering to the Marvel-esque knack for superimposing every core character onto a one-sheet. Outside of that, there’s the standard ‘back to camera’ hero shot, placing the main hero or heroine front and center for a brooding picture, so it’s little wonder why something like Fox’s marketing campaign for Deadpool attracts attention for flying in the face of convention.

For Zootopia, though, Disney is gunning to strike while the iron is hot with a slew of meme-worthy posters. And though they don’t necessarily reveal much...

Wonderfully Hilarious Full Trailer For Disney's Zootopia
Disney has released the first full trailer for their upcoming animated adventure, Zootopia. I haven't seen a lot of hype surrounding this movie since it was first announced, but maybe this full-length trailer will change that. I've already seen some of this footage because they screened some stuff at D23 earlier this year, and I've enjoyed everything that I've seen from this movie so far. This is a great trailer that shows you some of the funny humor that the movie will include, and I really think Disney fans are going to get a kick out of it. The sloth character that you'll be introduced to in this trailer is freakin' hysterical. It's such a funny concept for a character.

Last week, Walt Disney Animation Studios unveiled a new poster for Zootopia, which featured both of the main characters, rookie cop Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and con artist Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman). Today, the studio has released a new trailer, which showcases one of the stumbling blocks Judy runs into on her latest case: the Department of Mammal Vehicles (Dmv), which is run entirely by sloths. Anyone who has spent time at the human Dmv can relate to the agonizingly slow pace of this facility, as Nick introduces Judy to the "fastest" sloth at the Dmv, Flash (voiced by Raymond S. Persi).

Sloths Rule The Roost In Disney’s First Trailer For Zootopia
Arriving on the furry heels of last week’s teaser poster is the first full-length trailer for Disney’s upcoming animation, Zootopia, offering our first look at the titular urban landscape in motion.

For those unfamiliar with the general set up of the film, Zootopia imagines a world completely devoid of humanity, allowing the animal kingdom to rise up and build their own mega-cities. From towering rhinos to the bouncing bunny rabbits, Disney’s anthropomorphic kingdom is simply thriving with life, though today’s clip introduces us to the more laid-back section of society.

Shedding light on the core dynamic between Jason Bateman’s Nick Wild and Ginnifer Goodwin’s officer Judy Hopps, the footage culminates in a segment that involves the pair engaging in a conversation – or at the very least trying to – with Dash, a sloth that is about as slow with admin duties as one would expect.

Judy Hopps Is On The Case In Latest Poster For Disney’s Animation Zootopia
While it may not have topped the ever-growing list of must-see films in 2016, Disney fired Zootopia directly into the limelight only a few short weeks ago when the all-new animation welcomed aboard Luther star Idris Elba, Octavia Spencer and J.K. Simmons.

Now, with little over four months to go until release, the House of Mouse has today debuted a new poster for the film that sheds light on the core dynamic between Jason Bateman’s Nick Wild and Ginnifer Goodwin’s officer Judy Hopps. Eager to prove her worth in salt to the rest of the force, it is the latter anthropomorphic animal that takes point to crack a seemingly impossible case, though Hopps is forced to coordinate with Jason Bateman’s smart-mouthed schemer to do so.
