From empty hotel lobbies to dreamscapes comprised of infinitely expanding pools, the rise of liminal horror continues to be one of the most fascinating genre trends in recent memory. However, there’s a specific kind of transitional space that I rarely see get the same attention as some other meme-heavy settings, and that would be the secluded roadside locations that you often see when travelling between one city and another.

Lonely roadside diners, gas stations and long stretches of empty road – it’s easy to understand why these frequently ominous sights can get the mind racing, and that’s precisely why I think they make ideal settings for a certain kind of scary story. And in honor of these chilling liminal tales, we’ve decided to come up with a list highlighting six of the best roadside horror flicks for your viewing pleasure!

The 2022 TV series "Wednesday," created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, is a modern update of the Addams Family, characters featured in a series of ghoulish comic strips that first appeared in the pages of the New Yorker in 1933. Over the decades, the Addams Family characters were given their own sitcom, a few animated shows, and multiple theatrical features and TV movies, not to mention comic books, video games, and pinball machines.

The myth of the Addams Family has remained consistent throughout: The Addams are a loving, healthy family whose values only happen to be a complete dark mirror of ordinary people's. The Addams Family love death, bleakness, and misery. They regularly commit murder, and seem to be immortal. And yet, they love everything they do. The family patriarch Gomez is enthused and sexually devoted to his wife Morticia. The young daughter Wednesday is a classic Goth kid, and happy to harm her brother Pugsley.

Nyx UK presents eight chilling channel premieres in July, headed up on Tuesday July 16 at 9pm, with Uwe Boll’s controversial retro-slasher Seed (2007), a divisive portrait of a serial killer which delves into the macabre and grotesque, offering a grim exploration of vengeance and the human capacity for cruelty.

At first you’ll be afraid, you’ll be petrified! On Friday July 5, 9pm, Nyx UK also premieres Renaud Gauthier’s ‘goriously’ humorous Discopath (2013), in which a seemingly ordinary man turns his local Seventh Heaven nightclub into a splatter Disco Inferno.

Other primetime channel premieres include the captivating 1972 Italian giallo Amuck, Reeker 2, Dave Payne’s 2008 prequel to Reeker, Sonja O’Hara’s 2022 horror thriller Mid-century, Black Circle (2018), a stunning Mexican-Swedish horror thriller directed by Adrián García Bogliano. and the Venezuelan supernatural thriller, The House At The End Of Time (2013), directed by Alejandro Hidalgo, broadcast on Fri July 26, 9pm.

There is no forgetting the putrid and almost sickly sweet smell of human death once it has become an olfactory memory. Those unfamiliar with this hyper-specific stench should count themselves lucky. However, that odor of mortality is all the characters of Reeker have to keep themselves safe. Danger lurks wherever that fetor goes. Dave Payne’s 2005 horror film introduced a unique villain named after his most notable attribute, yet by the time that cadaverous stink has been inhaled by potential victims, the chance for escape may have already expired.

New Delhi, Dec 22 (Ians) England left-arm fast-bowler Tymal Mills revealed that he had to withdraw from the Big Bash League (Bbl), where he was supposed to play for Perth Scorchers, as his daughter had suffered a stroke just before he was to leave for Australia.

Mills, a squad member of England’s Men’s T20 World Cup-winning squad in Australia in November, pulled out of his upcoming stint at Perth Scorchers in the Bbl with a “family emergency” cited as the reason that time by the franchise.

Now he has written on Instagram about what prompted his withdrawal from the Bbl. “Home for Christmas after the most horrible 11 days. As we were at the airport about to leave for Australia our daughter suffered what ended up being a stroke.”

The minute you see the words “The Addams Family,” no doubt you snap your fingers twice.. The Addams clan has seen several incarnations since debuting as a series of The New Yorker cartoons penned by Charles Addams in 1938. The cartoons and the various films and television shows that rose in their wake perfectly blend the humorous and the macabre while focusing on the tight-knit family of Gomez, Morticia, their children Pugsley and Wednesday, and Uncle Fester.

The latest iteration is Tim Burton’s series “Wednesday,” set to debut on Netflix on November 23. The series centers on a teenage Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) trying to solve many mysteries, one being how to cement her identity outside the shadow of her ever-glamorous mother, Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Wednesday is also tasked with harnessing her budding psychic ability to solve a serial killer case at Nevermore Academy and cracking a murder mystery that involved her parents 25 years ago.

The Addams Family's history began in 1938 when cartoonist Charles Addams first drew the eccentric (and then-nameless) characters in a series of cartoons for The New Yorker. In the 1960s, "The Addams Family" television show cemented the iconic characters' influence on pop culture. Whether or not they directly inspired their competitors like "The Munsters," the titular family and their ooky-spooky-kooky theme song have been inescapable ever since. There have been two live-action shows in the '60s and the '90s, two animated series in the '70s and the '90s, board games, and video games. In fall 2022, Netflix will debut a Wednesday Addams series.

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival has selected 11 projects for the inaugural edition of its Kviff Talents scheme, aimed at promoting emerging filmmakers from the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Horror Channel presents nine fear-filled premieres in March including the UK TV premiere of Bad Milo!, Jacob Vaughan’s laugh-out-loud comedy horror blending sharp social satire with copious amounts of slimy gore. Broadcast on Fri 31st March at 11.20pm, Bad Milo! stars Ken Marino as normal nice guy Duncan, who discovers that a cute bloodthirsty creature is living in his lower intestines. “Reeker” is an interesting take on a slasher film. The decade of the slasher has long past so most films that take on that sub-genre are repetitions of previous movies that many of us have long watched. I was impressed that “Reeker” took a formula that has been beaten to death and added a nice twist to it.

“Reeker” centers on a bunch of young adults stranded in a desert rest stop only to be soon attacked by a mysterious creature while they are all having visions.

For the horror buff, Fall is the best time of the year. The air is crisp, the leaves are falling and a feeling of death hangs on the air. Here at Sound on Sight we have some of the biggest horror fans you can find. We are continually showcasing the best of genre cinema, so we’ve decided to put our horror knowledge and passion to the test in a horror watching contest. A film noir in 3D and Sony is releasing it straight to DVD in 2D? “Excuse me?” I hear you exclaim,”Are they out of their highly strung executive minds? What are they thinking?” More on this point anon, but now to the main feature. Thomas Jane’s directorial debut is definitely a must for fans of film noir, but I have to warn you that the plot’s not as strong as the visuals. It should stand up in 2D, the shadows will remain, but it can’t be as good as the 3D. Dark Country is a bit like a very long and wonderfully lit episode of the Twilight Zone. Stylistically it also reminded me of the desert surreal horror world of Dave Payne’s No Man’s Land: the Rise of the Reeker (2008). Wait,...

According to Director David Payne, No Man’s Land: The Rise of the Reeker is neither a prequel, sequel, nor remake of his 2005 film Reeker, while at the same time, being all of those. If that defies logic enough for you, wait til you watch the movie! Rise of Reeker is a slasher film that barely features the slasher, and expects you to sit around listening to the illogical characters babble until someone gets stabbed. My mother always did say that patience is a virtue...but she did not sit through this movie.

According to a recent Hollywood Reporter article, Valerie Cruz who played Connie Murphy in the hit Sci-Fi Series “The Dresden Files” has officially signed on to the “Dexter” season 3 cast. Valerie Cruz will play the wife to Michael Prado (Jimmy Smits) an Assistant District Attorney. Valerie Cruz will also appear in Dave Payne’s upcoming horror film “No Man’s Land: The Rise of Reeker” starring Michael Muhney.
